Bo3 started it but wasn't refined as each specialist had varying abilities and weapons but in bo4 they had more defined roles but not to the extent of IW where you can really customize them for specific playstyles.

The CoD writers basically see these headlines and reports of military operations and crank the intensity and cinematics to 11. lol
