- Minecraft snapshot 24w11a was gigantic. the new snapshot added a strange item called the heavy core, currently only used to craft the minecraft mace weapon. this heavy core has tons of unique properties and is very strange. what else will the heavy core do?

A cool function ion of it that fits with its description would be to prevent you from taking kickback while it is in your inventory. It would give the idea of weighing you down to protect from being moved. (Like the shulkerboxes of netherite blocks don’t.)

I’m surprised you didn’t mention the way ulraf talked about the heavy core in the video mojang released about the mace. He said it’s obtained from the vaults “for now” and that it won’t always be that easy. He then teases the real method to be a “rare challenge” so the heavy cores being in vaults might just be temporary until something else is developed enough. Maybe a new miniboss?
They have hinted at a new boss before, so this is my guess as well! I was also surprised Wattles didn't mention the video with Ulraf..

Honestly the new wolf breeds & the awesome mace weapon really felt like the beginning of the true hype of the update to me, if you understand what I mean.
The wolves aren't even a part of 1.21 so there could be a lot more coming with the update

What if the portal was opened like this: As mojang doesnt want us to kill the warden, what about if we placed the heavy core on the portal and then get the warden to do its sonic boom in the portal, the heavy core captures the boom and creats a portal with a scary sound and the watden goes back in fear and the sound is truly LOUD and SCARY. Then it is silence and BOOM jump scare! Tge jump scare is that your totem pops as a creepy hand grabs you and pulls you in the portal. Totem is compulsory. Otherwise it will kill you. The dimension should be called the illusion diension and hey the illusioners could gaurd the portal. Anyway what do you think?
I do like the idea of getting a Warden to sonic boom the core to start up the portal, seems like a good challenge.

I also have another mob in mind which will spawn in various locations and variants. The tied six or cestor which ever name. It has a sword bow axe pickaxe sheild and an empty hand. You first need to challenge it and kill it. Dont worry it has a totem when spawn. Then it will know you are its master. It hovers around you then and protects you from monsters, mines for you, or pvp practices with you. It gets tired easily and needs a bed to sleep or it will sleep wherever it is and take hoirs to wake up.
Sadly Mojang won't add the new dimention till they update the end 😢

With how rare it is and because we haven't had a real boss fight in a long time, i think it will be like the wither skulls, where it takes a lot of luck to get, but you can use it to start a boss fight.
Might be like a mini boss drop or sum to give us a reason to go to the trial chambers

It’d be cool if you fight some giant golem creature that summons mobs to attack you. You’d fight it by using 5 keys, and you’d be able to refight it like the trial spawners

Based on its sounds, place of origin and shape, I assume that the heavy core is an eletrical component that has to be put on a machine, kinda like a generator or battery of sorts; the rectangular holes in its sides would connect the core to the machine allowing the core to do its function kinda like those USB entry holes and the squares of shading in the top and bottom sides would visually be the shape that would hold the core in place when in the machine preventing it from moving out of place and possibly getting damaged. Such machine could be the ancient city portal as it was also made by a technological civilization. Additionaly, based on all the information we have, the reason why the heavy core is so strong must be because it would have to resist high amounts of some sorts of power, and do you know what else is super resistant and also cannot be mined faster with any tool? Reinforced deepslate! The block of the portal! So if my theory is right, the heavy core must be used connected to the portal of the ancient city, wich means it is very likely that the heavy core is the key component to the activation of the portal.
As someone else also said. If this happened to be the drop of a new boss from the trial chambers, well that would be exciting.
I also like the idea of being able to use rods (breeze and blaze for now. We could get more of these "elementals" like water and earth) instead of sticks for weapons to get new effects. Imagine being able to get a special passive effect for the weapon depending on what you used for the handle....
Somewhat akin to the old Tinker’s Construct mod, but implemented in a more vanilla way. Sounds fantastic. Always loved the mod and how it was super tedious to make excellent tools, but you could if you wanted and they were great.

I really wish they fix the mace design by making it more 3D because is literally like flat on the core part, looking like a flat axe or shovel. If only it was more cube-ish like those other designs by other people.

The heavy core, when hit, sounds like it has somethings very metalic inside, it has rectangular holes and a squares of depth in its top and bottom and is found on a structure built by ancient civilizations that had advanced technology, with all of this in mind I think it is some sorts of eletrical component that has to be put inside of a machine, the rectangular holes would connect to the machine so the heavy core can do its function and the squares of shading in the top and bottom would be what would hold the core in place, preventing it from shaking kinda like a lego teeth but on both sides

I really like this theory, especially since a "core" is the centre of something, for example, the earth's core, or an apples core.

If this theory is incorrect, I still believe it'll be used as a centre piece to something, for example, some sort of mech / golem.

When I look at it, I always imagined it that you could fill it up with something, and the little holes on the side will be the indicator. Maybe it’s exp storage and a better enchanting system for it, maybe you can craft a new type of enchanter to “tinker” your tools
I think the holes are to plug it into some sorts of machine as the heavy core sounds and looks like it is an eletrical component. Maybe it could be both actually, there is technology in the ancient citys that use exp (the skulk and warden stuff) so if the heavy core interacts with exp it would be a sign that it could be a piece of technology for the ancient city and possivbly the portal, afterall the portal is made out of a block that has the special resistance of not being broken by any tool, so it could also be used along with the heavy core

In the latest video from mojang Ulraf talks about the heavy core and says that its not always gonna be this "easy" to get a hold of. They have hinted at a new boss for some time now, so maybe that will drop the heavy core?
Imagine they update the end to include a new "end boss" that drop the heavy core? That would be awesome imo!
I think it would make more sense if the boss was found in the Trial Chambers.
I'm imagining three special keys hidden around the chamber, and once you get them all, you can open the boss door, and fight the boss. Then, it can drop the heavy core.

I’ve seen a theory that it will be used for new golems, or old golems that lost their respective votes. Especially with all the new golems from Minecraft Legends, I think this could make sense.
What if the heavy cores do activate the portal, but instead of it bringing us a new dimension, a powerful new boss emerges from it? This would fit well with the theme of the update and is a feasible ask for one final big feature that could be included.
It would also encourage multiplayer servers to go through the trial chambers together as Mojang intended, as more players means a greater chance of getting more cores from the vaults. Not only would this solidify the trial chambers as a memorable and core part of the game that players will want to go back to each playthrough, but it would encourage players to go on “combat adventures” together in order to find a new challenge and test out the new mace and wind charge weapons.
In the latest vid from mojang Ulraf mentions that the core is relatively easy to get a hold on right now, but that might not always be the case, so my personal guess is that the heavy core will be the drop of a future boss perhaps. They have said that they want to add in a new boss at some point.

Pro tip… on a realm, find a Trail Chamber, save game & exit, bookmarking the point in time, log back in, kill mobs, get key, roll rewards. If no good, reload backup, repeat until necessary.
I'd love it if you have to successfully drop hit the portal frame with the mace from a specific height to open it. Especially if the sound activates the warden leaving you the 2 choices, portal or warden. 😁 Isn't there a disc with similar sounds to this? 🙂

I really hope they do something with the portal. Maybe not this update, maybe not the next, but eventually i hope they get to it and give it the proper treatment. I don't know what they would do with it, maybe a new method of travel like you can hook it up to other portals or what I am hoping for, a whole new post-endgame dimension that is filled with really hard enemies (Side note I hope it is not skulk themed because sneaking through a dimension seems tedious to me but it would give the enchantment that makes your feet silent actually useful than just occasionally in the deep dark). I just hope they don't forget about it
This portal is gonna be a nagging mystery till we get an end update.
A cool redstone component they could add would be the wire, crafted with copper and redstone. It would work the same as redstone dust but is movable by pistons, can be waterlogged and best of all, doesn’t lose signal strength over time. This would make for faster running circuits without the need for repeaters and also help make it easier to use signal strength instead of binary in larger projects

recently im getting really hyped for snapshots cause i think we're pretty much done the 1.20.5 content, and with them adding the heavy core now, im starting to get my hopes up. it's really interesting that they gave it blockstates for rotation when it doesn't actually rotate, and it's also not the same as the other rotating blocks. it has one blockstate called "orientation" and it's values are stuff like "up_north", " down_east", etc... all the others are only really "up", "north", "west", etc.... it's got way more rotation options and yet no rotation.
I think the portal will be opened with some kind of item like the heavy core. In the chinese version of minecraft, reinforced deepslate blocks are called mysterious frame blocks and there is also a variant that has an eye of ender-ish slot in the top of the block.
Honestly the heavy core affecting jump speed and fall speed makes sense actually. When its put in a mace and used correctly it negates fall damage
Heavy core implies it belongs inside of something. What if you place on the ancient portal block and you have to hit it with the mace to pound it into the block? The mace is like a big hammer after all. Maybe it takes several hits, and they're LOUD, loud enough to wake the Warden, and if you stop hitting it, it just pops back out - the opposite of brushing with archaeology?

Worst and best case scenario, Mojang makes us gather a heavy core for every portal frame to light the portal
Theroy: You need to place a hevy core on all the blocks with the aligning pattern exposed so the top underside and bottom top side. Then using some item that is in the game or will be added, we will be able to charge the core blocks giving them a glow on the sides then shooting some kinda particle beam at each other opening the portal.
Wonder about mining technicalities, like how swords mine Bamboo the fastest, or like hoes with some blocks,
The Mace could mine some things faster or only way to break certain blocks (like the heavy core itself or Reinforced Deepslate).
This is the most valid theory about the portal in the ancient city yet
Ideas for more "Heavy" Weapons made with the heavy core:
Double Handed Sword - It does more damage than a normal sword, but it covers your hand and your offhand, meaning you cannot use a shield when holding it
Double Handed Battle Axe - It does more damage than a normal Axe, but it covers your hand and your offhand, meaning you cannot use a shield when holding it. It also will break any wood block instantly
Heavy Boots - Weigh you down, allowing you to walk in water as if you were on the land. You can even sprint with them. This would work well with a turtle helmet so you dont drown
Hard Hat - A Helmet-like item crafted with Goat Horns that allows you to do a new attack, Ramming. You press the attack button and you start charging, the longer you charge the more damage builds up
Fun fact : the god apple is more common then the golden apple in the vault

My theory on the Heavy Core is that it acts as some kind of battery block or an ingredient in a battery block redstone component. It has the word “Core” in it, which sounds very mechanical or electrical. Maybe it could be charged and then used to power the portal in the city.
Heavy core lore; an iron golem took a shif
you can place string, tripwire hooks and redstone dust, which are non-full-block crafting materials
would be cool if you could make standless banners and put them on it so your flying a banner when holding it offhand, or after placing a heavy core down you can put a banner in it and it gives off a redstone signal depending on certain variables in the banner
When the 4th dimension theory first came out I immediately noticed a similarity between the size of the end portal frame "slots" where the eyes of ender go and the "etched" square on the reinforced deepslate. I really hope it's the missing key to the deep dark dimension

I think this update will be one of the best updates we had in a long time. Like we already have trial chambers, WIND CHARGE WHICH IS AMAZING and the mace. These are all very very good additions to the game

Do I think the heavy core has potential to be an awesome late game block with its own unique purpose? absolutely.
Some ideas that are probably way off from what mojang will actually do with it are:
Combine with conduit to make some sort of antigravity thing where you can have sky islands that you can walk on all six faces of, with the heavy core conduit thing being the center of gravity.
Something that makes you unable to swim, ignore water physics entirely, and even take fall damage underwater when held in your hand.
Jump height reduced while on land holding it.
There are probably better uses and implementations than what I just described but something that screams "heavy" is what I'm thinking.
Another thing:
Use a mace as a hammer to hammer heavy cores into the reinforced deepslate blocks to activate the ancient city portal
I had the Idea that this block could be placed on bottom surfaces like dripstone, and that this block is gravity effected and breaks/smashed brittle blocks, like glass for example
I was experimenting with the snapshot a few days after the snapshot dropped, and I did find the heavy core inside of a chest in the trial chamber. I’m not sure if they removed them from the chest Loot table at this point, but that would make finding it much easier if they haven’t removed it.
It would make sense the ancient builders hid their cores in a trail so if someone wanted to open the portal they would have to go through several trails so they were proven to have the skill to deal with opening the portal.
I am curious... What Enchantments go on a Mace? ... Imagine... Loyalty. And then you basically have Mjolnr =D

On a random seed I received the Heavy Core from the second vault I opened. :V Still took 4 hours since I was poking around lush caves for half that time before finding a Trial Chamber in another cave.

Chiseled nether brick also has this square outline. Granted, the outline is of a skull (also mob head size?!?!) so its a little different.

if they already added some mobs from minecraft dungeons (bogged skeleton) maybe the heavy core is a drop from some sort of golem boss similar to the ones in dungeons. it would fit the theme of the trial chambers and tie together the update.
it's probably just me but when wattles said "i clearly didn't StAND a chance there" at 2:46 while placing sus sand was funny.
The heavy core should slow down players holding it. When you combine it with the breeze rod, the wind is imbued into the core making it's movements stronger and less weighty.
I don't think there will be a new dimension before the End update. It will probably be a place to go after killing the Dragon
I think that just like there's a ring on the deepslate for the core, that ring on the coore could be for the final piece of the portal in a future update
The fact that this can be placed means it can be used as a potential block to help build and secure bases in making entry harder. Despite its weakness with water.
Maybe a block that has a gravity pull things towards it when powered by redstone, it would be a cool block to have for farms like pull mobs into a pit or droped items into a hopper
Something crossed my mind that I've not seen anyone consider . The conduit has to be surrounded with prismarine to activate..what if the heavy core uses a similar mechanic to that.. it make it the second block with that unique mechanic
We need a lot of energy to open the portal because of its size, i think we'll have to combine breeze rod, blaze rod and maybe other rod items that they might add in the future
It could be an item you put in the end like how you can put that water thing in the water and it gives you water breathing and makes you strong underwater, but instead of underwater it’s in the skulk dimension, and it gives you the ability of not getting infected when you go to the skull area or something ? Just an idea. 🤔?

Thats very interesting that you mentioned that the heavy core at the top looks similar to the reinforced deepslate. Maybe it will have another use. If it does unlock the portal then mojang did listen to the community
The holes in the side make it look like it makes a sound when it travels far distances.
I like to think the heavy core is an ancient power core that has been depleted. We use it to make a weapon but maybe some new energy source could be used to power the portal with it. It was lost to time and that’s why the red stone tests were being conducted under the portal. To try and re light the portal to the dimension of the warden.
Heavy core looks like it's made out of some kind of deepslate. Reinforced deepslate cannot be mined in survival, and takes 82.5 seconds to break. Divide that by two and you get 41.25, not quite half, but close enough to the breaking time of half that of reinforced deepslate, which is what the end city portal is built out of. This to me suggests it might have SOME relation to the ancient city portal yes. See if Mojang had made the warden a boss, killing a warden could also have dropped a heavy core. So obtaining one is still far from easy, with this option being reserved mainly for players who are well versed in killing wardens, and players who are new or are not so keen can have the chance to obtain one much easier in the trial chambers instead. Would make sense for the very mob everyone is gonna want to one shot at least once with the mace in survival to drop an item needed to craft the said weapon.
If it were to open the portal, it would make sense that you're going to need more than one, a bit like eyes of ender for the end portal. With heavy core being rare, this provides an interesting challenge for players who want to open the portal. The dimension could be skulk, just pure skulk, no other blocks. No wardens can spawn there but other, new hostile and passive mobs can. The lore could suggest the ancient builders used this dimension for a very specific purpose, and they created the warden to guard the portal.
I have a feeling that the "core" is the heart of a mechanical robot boss possibly and when you defeat the boss you get the core
I hope what happens with the ancient city portal is if it ever does get activated, you can’t go to a new dimension, but something from another dimension enters YOUR world as a boss and you have to fight it.
My Theory is Ather fixing the Redstone At The portal You got to Craft the Tool and Hit The Portal To Open but that's Just Theory
That heavy core design reminds me of the Aether bronze dungeon mobs. Maybe king Bdoz is starting to incorporate more ideas from his modding ventures?
Heavy core might have some use related to engineering as the update name has tinkering in it it might be a source block like redstone block
Theory: redstone application of heavy core might be by crafting it with a piston in order to create a sort of punching device akin to a boxer glove in a box.

The heavy core also looks like it can be charged by the amethyst shards or the echo shards... because of the 4 dark slots on each side. Similar to the nether anchor with glow stone... Has someone suggested that yet?
Also, the heavy core breaks reinforced deepslate twice as fast as a netherite pickaxe. More connection.
The heavy core needs another use. Thebdevs could just give us the hammer directly, but bc you need the item first, it may indicate another use. The crafting recipe is just unnecessary steps. The breeze road is just so common that it doesn't add nothing into the difficult of obtaining the hammer.
Maybe that the water core helps in water so the heavy core could help in caves, maybe night vision
I like the ancient city portal idea, but its gotta be placed inside the redstone mechanism underneath the structure.
What if the heavy core needs a construct like the beacon or conduit to activate and they haven't added the functionality to it yet. Maybe out of the reinforced deepslate or maybe copper since it's in the trial loot.
