- Опубликовано: 21 окт 2024
- This is a step by step tutorial for how to make a hexagon needle book, which is a free English paper piecing/ hand sewing pattern on my website. It’s a lovely project as it combines hand sewing, EPP and embroidery and can be completed in a couple of hours. It’s great for beginners as you get a little taste of all of the techniques and experienced stitchers will find it lovely to make too. I hope you love this relaxing project and that you make one too.

Thank you very much for this fun to do project. I had a lot of fun to do.
I’m so happy you liked it 😊
Thank you for the pattern. When I saw your video, I knew I had to sew this and immediately ordered fabric and embroidery floss. And I like it so much that I want to sew a needle book, a pin cushion and the box for my mom. She is in the hospital with a fractured femur and when she is home from rehabilitation in four weeks I want to surprise her with it. Many greetings from a small village in Germany.
There is no hex form here, so I used a thin fleece line. That's not 100%, but it works fine.
Thank you for watching Heidi. I’m honoured that you want to try my patterns and what a lovely surprise they will be for your mum. Wishing her a speedy recovery 🌸
Just discovered you, so glad I did ,

You guys are so lucky to have Liberty in your country. By the time it's available here in the US it's about equal to the cost of gold lol! All time favorite fabric since the 70's!
Ahh yes it is quite pricey. Do you know Morris Textiles? A lovely online shop in Texas run by Leisa who is from the UK, she sells Liberty and lots of lovely things 😊🌸
Oh that’s beautiful can’t wait to make this thank you x 😊
Thank you Julie, I hope you love making it 😊

What a lovely tutorial, Emma, this needle-book is simply gorgeous! I have my Hexiform shapes from Ashmead Designs and will definitely be making one, hopefully this weekend🤞 So glad I found your lovely videos💕 Like others have said, your calmness is delightful. Thank you 🥰
Oh thank you Pauline! What a lovely thing to say. I hope you love making it 🌸
I love this little pattern. I used the template and followed the pattern exactly except the embroidery. My finished size is roughly 1/4 inch larger than my 1/2 inch hexagon flower. I can't figure out where I might have gone wrong. I 💗 the one I made but was looking forward to the hand quilting showing. Thanks for this pattern.
Oh no! Perhaps the templates didn’t print correctly? Some printers aren’t set up to print at 100%
Lovely 💕
Emma, that is just precious!
Thank you so much Tammy!
Emma, I am new to your videos. They are delightful. I am now thinking I too will start making hexies. Got my eye on this needle book. Thanks for the videos!

Love it, thank you, I’m going to be making one of these. I just love hand sewing hexies. x
I am so glad you are going to make one, thank you
Hi Emma, I'm so glad I've found your videos. I've been cross stitching for many years, but never tried patchwork as i thought it would be too difficult for me! I loved your little needle book so i thought I'd have a go, and I'm really pleased with it! I love that it's all hand sewing as i dont really enjoy using a sewing machine. I'm totally hooked now and can't wait to do more, so thank you.
Oh this is wonderful Sue! Thank you for letting me know. I am so glad to hear you got enjoyment out of making it
Such a wonderful tutorial Emma, i have JUST found your site and am so loving it. You are a wonderful instructor, will be making one of these this weekend for sure!
Oh it makes me so happy to hear that! Thank you! I hope you love making it
Hi.. Emma, I'm your new subscriber from Malaysia. I really love your beautiful work. Can't t wait to do it myself. Thank you very much.
Thank you so much for subscribing! Lovely to have you here
Hello Emma, 🤗 This is the first time I've come across your channel. This video is wonderful! Thank you for sharing your skills and knowledge to teach us how to make this adorable needle book!
Thank you for watching Cynthia, I am so glad you enjoyed it
Very pretty!
Thank you 😊
I too have found you one tube. I love EPP as well and have made lots of them for quilts and projects. You have a calming voice and I love your sewing. Thanks for the free pattern. I also saw your large hexagon sewing kit Do you have a pattern for that? Keep stitching Emma.
Thanks so much Gina. Yes there is a pattern for the sewing case in my shop payhip.com/vintagesewingbox 😊
Hi Emma
I just found your channel a few days ago and I’m so glad I did . I’m new to sewing , especially to EPP. This is a beautiful tutorial and I feel so encouraged to make this lovely little needle case. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful skills.
How exciting that you are new to sewing and EPP, you have such a lovely journey of discovery ahead of you. I hope you love making the needle case if you do make it. Thanks for watching

Thank you Tricia. There will definitely be more kits, I plan on doing lots. Take care and thanks so much for watching x
Thank you so pretty! I have too make one so useful
Thank you Nancy, I hope you love making it 😊
This needle book is delightful and I look forward to making it.
I'm wondering why you left the paper in the flower on the front??
Thank you. I didn’t use paper actually, I used hexiform which is designed to be left in. It’s a type of fabric stabiliser and it’s lovely, adds a great texture 😊
Got your kit from your shop, opportunity to try the hexiforms too. Love how you packed it all and I’m watching this again to make sure I do it right ( I hope ) your printed instructions are very good too- thank you
oh thank you sooo much for supporting my shop. I am so happy you are pleased with it. have a great day
Lovely❣️🥰 I think you have inspired me to try the EPP WITH your hexy needle book. If this goes well I would love to try your seeing kit, you make it look so easy❣️😊✨🙏🏻
That's so great! I am so happy to hear you want to make it, it's a fun project, I hope you love it
Hi Emma, 💗 your videos, do you have one showing how to make the Hexagon Sewing Kit? I love it and the needle holder. Thank you so much! Blessings from Texas!
Hi Becky, I don’t have one showing how to make it for start to finish I’m afraid. The pattern is very detailed with full written instructions and step by step photos, plus some of my videos show techniques that are used in the making of the case e.g ladder stitch and general epp techniques. I hope that helps
Hi Emma, can I buy the instructions for making your large hex sewing, that you carry things and for the needle holder and scissors holder? Thank you 😊
@@beckywalker1519 hi Becky, thanks so so much, it’s so lovely that you want to make them. I will leave two links here, one is the pattern shop for the large hexagon sewing case and the other is the free patterns page of my website where you will find the scissors case pattern and lots of others 😊 payhip.com/b/UrCV www.vintagesewingbox.co.uk/free-patterns.html
I love it
Meraviglioso, grazie, ho appena iniziato, faccio un po di pratica e lo preparo per me 😍😍😍😍😍
Fantastico!
It's a very small hexie wow
I am back again, after I showed a dear friend how to do some EPP when she came for a visit here
thank you Suzette!
I love this tutorial, thank you for sharing it. I’m hoping to make it with my mother (she’s 80 and stills sews) 🤞🏽🤞🏽 - wish me luck! Emma, did you make your pincushion as well? Is there a pattern offered? Thank you.
Thank you Jill, that’s so lovely that you want to make it, and with your mother too, very special. Yes there is a pincushion tutorial and there is a video all about it too here on RUclips 😊
Hi Emma the Hexigans are lovely but you don't have the video or pattern for the big Hexigans for to keep the little needle Hexigans in which I would like thank you keep up the great work. And please let me know I think you can keep other things in it too like the pattern yo are working on. Hope you can help me thank you. Margaret 🙏😘it the Hexigans sewing case I was looking for. 🙏🙏🙏😍
Hi Margaret, thanks so much for watching. The hexagon sewing case is a pattern in my shop. I will put the link here if you’d like to take a look. Thanks so so much payhip.com/vintagesewingbox 😊🌸
Your welcome x
Emma did you remove the paper from the back of the hexagon. Or did you leave them in. Thank you.
I wasn't using paper, I was using hexiform which is designed to be left in. But if I was using paper I would have removed it. Hope that helps
This is lovely Emma. Thank you. I've ordered my Hexi things tonight and will give this a go as soon as I can. I don't have a computer or printer so I wondered if you sell printed patterns by post? I am happy to pay for patterns and postage but just not able to print and as I am still shielding I am confined to the house. If this request is a nuisance don't worry I just thought maybe I'm not alone in being a tech phobic..! God bless from Northern Ireland.v
Hi Vera, I don't sell printed patterns yet but I am happy to print this needle book pattern and post it to you and also, if you were to buy any of my other patterns, I am happy to do the same. If you email me your details I will sort it out for you. Thank you
Que bonitooooo 👏👏👏❤
Gracias!
Starting my needle book now after downloading your pattern and instructions. Already got the hexie flower done 😊
Did you know that the instructions don't include any information on cutting the larger hexies? It talks about cutting out the tiny ones and then goes straight into assembling the hexie flower and then putting that onto the other pieces. But it never mentions how many of what size/fabric to cut out.
It does. It tells you in instruction number 1 how many of each size to cut out and the printable template is also there for you to use to cut around. Hope that helps
@@emmajonesvintagesewingbox I went back to double-check and it does tell you what sizes of paper templates you will need. But it does not say anything about what fabric hexies to cut for each of the templates or how many of what size. Then the instructions go from making and assembling the hexie flower to, "Position your flower in the centre of your linen hexagon." No mention of which size hexie the linen hexie should be.
Perhaps it's just me, but I would be pretty lost without the video instructions to watch as well. I hope you know that I'm not trying to be critical! I adore your videos and plan to get even more of your patterns. 💙
Ok thank you. I will update the pattern with more detail then
@@emmajonesvintagesewingbox probably just the way my brain works. 😊 I like detailed directions and am used to clothing patterns. I'm still really enjoying the things that you share!
Wonderful tutorial, can’t stand the music though your voice is calming enough.
Thank you, sorry about the music
I think the music is very peaceful and appropriate plus she can be heard over it. Many videos have music so loud you can't hear the commentary.
Very nice. I want to make one. Did you take the paper off the backs of the hexes?
Thank you, I’m so glad you want to make one. I didn’t use paper, I used hexiform which is a type of fabric and it is designed to be left in 😊
Gracias, bonito trabajo, me puede decir por favor, la medida de los hexagonos? 👏👏👏
Gracias, son de media pulgada. hay una plantilla imprimible en el enlace de abajo para que pueda imprimirla y hacerla
Hi Emma, I really really enjoy your tutorials. I have so much to learn as I am brand new to embroidery. I hope I can learn from your videos. I appreciate all info on products you use such as needles, thread, felt etc. Did you say you use foam on those adorable 1/2" hexi templates? Thank you.. stay safe and can't wait till your next video!! :o)
I'm so glad you are enjoying the videos Noelle. I am using hexiform for the 1/2 inch templates. It is a type of fabric stabiliser and it is designed to be left in, it's really great. It is made and sold by www.ashmeaddesigns.com I hope that helps
Hello..... I was wondering if I could purchase a kit?? Seems they are sold out ...... will you make more blue?
Hi Jan, thanks so much for being interested in my kits. Yes, I will definitely be making many more. I am just waiting for more supplies to arrive so hopefully there will be more on my website next week. If you follow me on instagram, I will put a little message on there each time new things are added to my shop. Thank you
