Yup. Can’t beat the sound of a 750hp carbureted 358 running on 110 octane leaded “76” race gas. Those were the glory days. At my first race in 1999 at Atlanta, we got there while they were practicing. I remember walking in the parking lot, hearing the distant rumble of the cars, the way they echoed almost like thunder in the distance. As I got closer I could smell race gas and burning oil and rubber. I will never forget it, I was hooked on NASCAR after that, back when it was RAW

Finally a legit sounding NASCAR driven on the street. Man they sounded so good back then. I've been to many races and this is a great depiction of what they actually sound like in real life.
I'm glad they are using one of Dale's cars instead of letting it sit and rot in a museum somewhere. That car was made to run! Not sit on display. Dale was to come to my Gm dealership I worked at as a tech in 1992, but scheduling conflicts prevented it. His backup car and trailer did make it though, and when that gm good wrench transport truck pulled in our lot, every tech dropped what they were doing and came out. We were a huge dealership, over 1,000 new cars on the lot, which covered a few Acres. The guy decided to drive the car over to the display tent, rather than push it, as our lot was so large. He started the engine, and Lord was it loud. He said he had to run it a few laps to warm the engine, trans, and diff, as it couldn't be started and then shut down without warning up. The engine sounded like crap at idle, but once it got to around 6,000, it sounded sweet. He roared up and down the lanes, he said he hit 80, and never got it past 2nd gear. After he parked it, all of us from the shop desended on it, wanting to see how it was built, and all the trick tech in it. It had a belt off the rear diff, that ran a pump to circulate diff fluid to a small cooler mounted by it, I thought that was interesting, but I guess running a 400-500 mile race at 150-225 miles a hour, the diff will get a little warm. They said Dale used the car several times, and while he wasn't there, it was still incredible to touch the seatbelts and steering wheel where his hands had been. It was a god like experience. lol
Since then Tex Racing developed a rear end pump small enough to fit in the diff housing. Saves about 7 pounds over the external pump setup Cup teams used to run.
@@alwaysopen7970 I agree. Not an actually-used honest-to-goodness race car. I'm sure that NASCAR (or, should I say Teresa Earnhardt?) nowadays wouldn't allow it.
