Italy is always underestimated given they frequently win or go very close to winning both in WC and Euro. 10 finals 6 major titles (4WC and 2 EC) suggest they should never be underestimated.
Nobody ever says it but they are Euro 2021 champion, U17 Euro champion, U19 Euro champion, U20 World cup finalist (beaten by a non Euro team).
Because most Italians think it is arrogant and bad luck to say that they are favourite nobody minds. Exactly the opposites of countries like England where the press always says they’re gonna win and they never do.
1982, Italy was not a favorite either. And they won. I was repeatedly predicting every combination of scores possible that Italy will loose. Guess what, they won every game, opposite my “predictions”.
But not in 02 and 06. They were feared then.

They had little faith and had France, Portugal and Brazil as more favorites and in 06 they had Brasil, Argentina, and Germany as preferred favs
@@Neoyorchese 06 Italy is very strong even with Totti not fully recovered from injury. 02 Italy is strong in front and back but no attacking midfielders such as Pirlo.
As Spaniard there is no other side which respect and fear the most than Italy. They play in a different division and are hard as rocks. Although theses two sides are always looked upon by the rest: England, France or Portugal, they pray not to cross in our path. The germans keep their thoughts to themselves. 🇪🇸
And UEFA loves that match. What is is now, 5-6 euros in a row we have to play each other?

Italy currently is euro champion, u17 euro champion, u19 euro champion and u20 world cup finalist. And they weren't the favourites in any of those.
For us Italians it is an advantage and a pleasure not to be included in the list of favourites: 1) It makes victory easier; 2) Multiply the joy of having won. Not being included among the favorites doesn't bother us in the slightest, it doesn't irritate us, it doesn't damage our pride. We know perfectly well who we are: four-time world champions and two-time European champions and currently: reigning European champions as a senior national team; The reigning European champions with the Under 17 national team; The reigning European Under 19 champions. We know who we are and we are proud of it but we also know, every time we take the field, that we must earn our name once again, without presumption: this is the steel thread of our history. I remember in 2021 no one included Italy in their favorites, and at the end, it was still Italy who won. You can NEVER rule out Italy in a major tournament. If anyone does that, it's a huge mistake

That's it, the English and Belgians are the only ones fighting to be treated as 'favourites' 😂 and in the past Italy hasn't done well when saddled with this label. Better go under the radar
Vabbè dire che sappiamo perfettamente chi siamo non è troppo vero. Tantissimi italiani non ci credono neanchè un pò nella nostra squadra e buttano solo merda sui nostri giocatori. A dimostrazione di questo sono i continui e ormai più che fastidiosi paragoni con le nazionali del passato, particolarmente quella del 2006 con le classiche frasi del tipo " in passato avevamo l'imbarazzo della scelta invece ora c'è solo l'imbarazzo". That fact that they managed to enter Euro 2020 on a 27 game unbeaten streak when the previous best unbeaten record when entering a World Cup or continental cup was 23 and NOT be in the oddsmakers top 5 to win the tournament tells you everything you need to know. They are always and will always be disrespected. They could travel back in time and beat the 1970 Brazil team 6-0 a week before the tournament and people would still be making videos like "Does Italy have a chance to win this tournament?"

Not only was it a 27 unbeaten run,they had qualified for Euro 2020 with 10 wins out of 10 in their group,by the time they played Spain in the semifinals they had gone 32 games unbeaten winning 27 and drawing only 5,and in that run was a 13 consecutive games victory run and 11 consecutive games clean sheets ,yet italy was only talked about as "dark horses",hilarious.the same thing happened in the buildup to the 2006 world cup,Italy entered that world cup on an 18 game unbeaten run,they had smashed the Germans 4-1 and the Dutch 3-1 away in that unbeaten run in friendlies a few months before yet Italy were not amongst the favourites,a nation that is the mist succesful in europe only after Germany ,complete insanity.

And for the doubters... in those 32 games,winning 27 and drawing 5,thats 92.2% over that 3 year period,its unheard of,they also scored 85 goals in those 32 games and had 23 clean sheets in those 32 games,this is simply not possible unless you have something special going for you.But all runs have to end ,no matter how good you are.

Everyone always underestimate Spain and Italy and always bloat England or Brazil when it is a WC.

I am surprised there was underestimation at all, Italian squad looks very good and a lot of players that fit well together and versatile.
Italy is always underestimated because it's league is not marketed as much as Spanish and definitely not as much as the premier. If you noticed, most favorites has start playing either in Spain or England..... yet Italian league has the most amount of players in the euros. Italian squads have made 5 of the 6 potential European club finals in the last 2 years.... For those who watch the Italian league, are not surprised with players like Calafiori, Scamacca, Frattesi, Pellegrini.... I understand they are not the Italy of the 90s-00s but people have Hungry and Croatia way higher with much less. And it comes from ignorance of the players more than anything.

No. Italy played against one of the worst teams in the tournament and Spain was decent but gave up chances left and right.
Albania qualified from first place. The weakest team needed an extra game to qualify - Poland, Ukraine and Georgia.
Albania won their group in qualification. They had Poland and Czechia in the group so no they are not the worst team in the Euro. I bet they will battle Spain and Croatia.
