Got mine (#957)....I'm literally feeling grateful to be "experienced". It's beyond amazing in terms of sound. I'm stunned. I had a spiritual reaction. I'm having a hard time imagining it sounding better. Like I'm hearing it "right" for the first time... after knowing my whole adult life. It's also historic and I feel like I own a piece of American history. I'm actually going to be proud to pass this to my son some day, and enjoy it with my family in the meantime. I own 1 other UHQR and feel the same. (Kind of Blue)
Hi, Michael! Just got my copy. The UHQR is very different from the LP we listened to in 67, my high school days. This sounds quite amazing! As to comments that it's "not the version Jimi wanted"; welcome to the club! The Beatles, Stones, et al were ALL subject to the whims of the record companies in the UK vs here in the US. It seems quite ridiculous now, but back then they were just "pop" groups, so who cares (said the record companies)? I think the first Beatles LP to be "official" was the White Album; Stones, Beggar's Banquet. However, Jimi's next two were issued in the same package (except for the [notorious] Electric Lady cover...). Regardless, this is in the Top Ten all time great albums. Wonderful review!

Tempting..in my early drummer days ..many incarnations of Jimmy appeared on our set list.. Perhaps ..wind cries Mary. Had the more of interest for me in drum parts..Mitch Mitchell, like Charlie Watts was a big jazz buff ..he could be heard emulating his favorite jazz drummer , Elvin Jones ..on tracks like ' manic depression '. He played with a traditional jazz grip ..as did many rock legends..bc to play jazz well ..means indepth study and focus..and in my opinion it all goes back to the rhythms of west africa..a place I know all too well. Having studied ritual voodoo drumming for 2yrs in Benin , Max did it , as did Art Blakey .. I'm sure this box set is beautifully crafted and mixed ... You're bringing back alot of memories for me on my drum timeline and phases ..but Hendricks never gets old .. I didn't make it to Woodstock..just shy a few years ..
Amazing stuff, Michael! Maybe when you do the comparison video, do a deep dive on a song to explain the differences? If I had your setup, I'd probably sit there flipping records back and forth for hours just repeating the same song to dissect all the differences. Big Fan of Manic Depression.
I can appreciate the technical side of the pressing. I can definitely see why it impresses the Germans. Many of my German friends love this type of craftsmanship, it’s just not very common anymore.
I hope the Hendrix estate can get a hold of his Royal Royal Albert 1969 concert and release it on vinyl. I have my Are you Experienced album worn out so I am thinking on buying a new one . It was a two track recording but it's awesome and was his debut studio album .

I listened to my QRP pressed analogue 2 track tape sourced lp from 2014 last night. Sounded fantastic. Just FYI. One thing that struck me is the vinyl was actually quieter than my uhqr kind of blue. Really. ☮️
What with all these expensive AS/MFSL releases in pointless large boxes and the insanely priced ERC releases, the whole vinyl game has a "Last days of Rome" feel about it.
So pleased to see some ‘none jazz’ audiophile records coming through, thank you for the heads up. I’m looking forward to more iconic rock albums appearing in the future. Thank you as always for taking so much of your time to make these great videos.
Thank you! I’m so excited! I ordered my copy yesterday. Expensive but I missed out on the Axis: Bold as Love UHQR and now goes for up to or over a grand in most cases! I didn’t wanna make the same mistake again. Btw: Mono fanatics, just stop.. lol. Screw Mono! This album definitely sounds best in Stereo (just as any psych album i.e. - Sgt Peppers, etc.). I’ve heard the mono versions, and never been impressed. Sounds Stripped. Raw. Mono is great for old jazz, soul & r&b or any Old albums that have only straight instrumentation and no effects. But just like Sgt Peppers, there are psychedelic swirling effects and sounds that get lost on mono and makes it sound like something is missing. I’m So excited for this to arrive. Early birthday present to myself.

Nice review! I think the way Hendrix heavily panned between the speakers on some of the tracks I believe the Stereo release will be a better listening experience as opposed to the mono.

Another great release from Chad Kassem, but only available to those who ordered in the US. In Germany as good as not to get it. If you are lucky, as always only for a moon price. With the announced Jethro Tull it will not be different.
I ordered 2 Jimi Hendrix Are You Experienced UHQR copies on March 26, and the status of my order currently is back ordered. I don't know how this could be when all 20,000 copies are already pressed. Why are copies not shipped!?!?!?!?
I wish the last Hendrix was done as a deluxe double release with both the stereo and mono version in one box with a higher price. I probably would have gotten that one too if it was but I guess since it sold out a lot of people consider that a problem. Im just not enough of a completionist or Hendrix fan to dedicate that much space for 2 copies of that album.

Don't think I'll get this...but I am curious if they will ever do a UHQR version of an album that's not over 50 years old? Like there are great album made past the 60's and 70's. ..and not jazz either. Just wondering..
I heard about the Hendrix on Chad's channel! I'm jumping on this one! With jimi Hendrix I prefer the stereo version (I'm a stereo guy anyway) , not only because I like stereo better, but because jimi Hendrix was the opposite of the Beatles where as the Beatles concentrated on mono, Hendrix was more into stereo (which is why you hear a lot of "sound effects " in his music) ! He was a visionary who saw that stereo was the future, and the creativeness with it was limitless!
Yeah I like Jimi in stereo especially when it’s comes to stereo effects. I just always disliked the hard pan vocals that put jimi in the corner instead of center, on stereo
Except that the first release in England which had a different track list was mono. So the album was similar to the Beatles early albums in that it was mixed initially as a mono release and the stereo version was "Jimied" up later. Michael Fremer has an interesting history of this album on his website.

I’m listening to the 2014 Legacy pressing right now. Being honest, I just can’t see how this album could ever sound better than this! But since I dropped the $ on this uhqr, I Sure hope there is a massive improvement to justify the massive cost difference! Lol. I guess I’ll find out next week
180 grams are not enough. A 200 gram record when 140 will give you the same quality is unnecessary. This is a great album. Much better than most of the MoFi one steps. Are You Experienced is a stereo album. I don’t know why anyone would want a mono version.
@@vinylrichie007 I like it too. I think it would have worked better on the front if the photo was larger and the text smaller. Which is partly why I prefer the UK cover.
1967/1968.......Nobody in history or the future could produce Are You Experienced/Axis Bold as Love and Electric Ladyland in such rapid succession AND still sound exciting AND futuristic....I have only one complaint and that is the inclusion of Hey Joe at the expense of Red House...Terrific video Michael👌👋
Red House is one of my favourite of all Hendrix songs. I have an early mono copy of the UK version of the album and the sequence of songs is one reason why the album is so good.

The 2 stand out tracks for me are Red House for Jimis ability to really play blues and 3RD Stone from the Sun for innovative sound textures etc. Jimi was obsessed with science fiction and "Outer Space"....as an Aussie we had the same track list as the U.K. Hey Joe was just Jimi dipping his toe in the water and doesn"t belong on the album IMO🤗
I'm a huge Hendrix fan. But one thing that bugs me about his studio albums, he always got a little heavy handed with the left and right panning effects. But I guess stereo was new back then and he wasn't the only one overusing it. The Beatles are guilty of it too. Some of their songs are unrecognizable if you only listen to one channel.
Why would you listen to one channel....that makes no sense....why would you not want stereo....and why would you not utilize it when recording....it's a no brainer....when you see something live it's essentially stereo....there's a left and right side....mono would be like putting a finger in one ear while listening to a live performance....no dimension...no depth to the sound.....I suppose some people don't get what stereo is....which to me is kinda lame.......
Not available in Europe and 250 US Dollar in total for 1 record (incl. 70 Dollar shipping to europe plus Tax and fed ex handling fee) is not a business practice I do want to support.

Mono AYE sounds great! absolutely stunning. I have read that the US mono tapes do not sound good and the original UK mono tapes are now very degraded. I have 2 copies of the original Track UK vinyl and they sound very veiled. Really rolled off top end. I have not heard a US mono. I do have several French Barclay pressings in Mono. I have found the best is the Barclay Box Set with 1C1D1S in the run outs. If only they could find the French copy of mono AYE!
With the prices of everything rising it would be better if they didnt have the box and spare the cost. Plus I dont see the need for the box especially as the gatefold is included too.
I really would want this title in my collection, but after 3 replacements of the Kind Of Blue UHQR without a satisfying outcome, I simply lost my trust in this series... Overseas shipping is insanely overpriced, plus the return policy from AS is anything but "fair" for overseas customers. Im now stuck with a 150$ very bad and unacceptable pressing of the KOB UHQR, that hurts. Never again!
I thought this wasn’t gonna be the same issue as the Mile Davis one…..? Anyone know what’s up. I ordered mine with the impression that they were all pressed in house and ready to ship on that date. Now I’m seeing that people in Egypt and in the Antarctica already have theirs and my order is still processing.
So I have to assume that you get them for free and shipped before the general public since mine is expected to be delivered April 3rd and I live in USA! I feel you should disclose that you don’t pay for these high priced sets from AP. Just like you manage to ALWAYS get the ERC releases. Please be honest to your audience and disclose that you get these records only to promote them on your channel. Otherwise it takes away from your integrity.

Nice review but £180 vs £26 for the Marino AAA version cannot possibly be worth it. Granted you should buy it, not play it and make yourself a little profit down the line
Finally got my copy. First impression: ridiculously over-packaged, ugly book spine, god I hope they stop doing this. Sound quality? Good (from Hey Joe on), not great. Second impression: Great music, horribly recorded/engineered.

Michael, Ja die Platte ist gut aber haut sie dich vom Hocker? Ich habe mehr erwartet. Aber ich denke das Ur-Band bzw. die Masteraufnahmen waren schon nicht das non plus Ultra. Wenn ich die 45er Umschnitte der DOORS damit vergliche, ist das ein Unterschied wie Tag u Nacht.

I’m listening to the 2014 Legacy pressing right now. Being honest, I just can’t see how this album could ever sound better than this! But since I dropped the $ on this uhqr, I Sure hope there is a massive improvement to justify the massive cost difference! Lol. I guess I’ll find out next week

Best thing they did was announce it when it was ready to ship. MFSL is so lost announcing all of these titles that are 2+ years away.
180 grams are not enough. A 200 gram record when 140 will give you the same quality is unnecessary. This is a great album. Much better than most of the MoFi one steps. Are You Experienced is a stereo album. I don’t know why anyone would want a mono version.

I love the punch of my OG UK Track mono. Also the artwork is vastly superior to the US release in my opinion. Horses for courses 🤔

1967/1968.......Nobody in history or the future could produce Are You Experienced/Axis Bold as Love and Electric Ladyland in such rapid succession AND still sound exciting AND futuristic....I have only one complaint and that is the inclusion of Hey Joe at the expense of Red House...Terrific video Michael👌👋
Red House is one of my favourite of all Hendrix songs. I have an early mono copy of the UK version of the album and the sequence of songs is one reason why the album is so good.

The 2 stand out tracks for me are Red House for Jimis ability to really play blues and 3RD Stone from the Sun for innovative sound textures etc. Jimi was obsessed with science fiction and "Outer Space"....as an Aussie we had the same track list as the U.K. Hey Joe was just Jimi dipping his toe in the water and doesn"t belong on the album IMO🤗

I'm a huge Hendrix fan. But one thing that bugs me about his studio albums, he always got a little heavy handed with the left and right panning effects. But I guess stereo was new back then and he wasn't the only one overusing it. The Beatles are guilty of it too. Some of their songs are unrecognizable if you only listen to one channel.
Why would you listen to one channel....that makes no sense....why would you not want stereo....and why would you not utilize it when recording....it's a no brainer....when you see something live it's essentially stereo....there's a left and right side....mono would be like putting a finger in one ear while listening to a live performance....no dimension...no depth to the sound.....I suppose some people don't get what stereo is....which to me is kinda lame.......

Mono AYE sounds great! absolutely stunning. I have read that the US mono tapes do not sound good and the original UK mono tapes are now very degraded. I have 2 copies of the original Track UK vinyl and they sound very veiled. Really rolled off top end. I have not heard a US mono. I do have several French Barclay pressings in Mono. I have found the best is the Barclay Box Set with 1C1D1S in the run outs. If only they could find the French copy of mono AYE!

With the prices of everything rising it would be better if they didnt have the box and spare the cost. Plus I dont see the need for the box especially as the gatefold is included too.

I really would want this title in my collection, but after 3 replacements of the Kind Of Blue UHQR without a satisfying outcome, I simply lost my trust in this series... Overseas shipping is insanely overpriced, plus the return policy from AS is anything but "fair" for overseas customers. Im now stuck with a 150$ very bad and unacceptable pressing of the KOB UHQR, that hurts. Never again!

So I have to assume that you get them for free and shipped before the general public since mine is expected to be delivered April 3rd and I live in USA! I feel you should disclose that you don’t pay for these high priced sets from AP. Just like you manage to ALWAYS get the ERC releases. Please be honest to your audience and disclose that you get these records only to promote them on your channel. Otherwise it takes away from your integrity.

Finally got my copy. First impression: ridiculously over-packaged, ugly book spine, god I hope they stop doing this. Sound quality? Good (from Hey Joe on), not great. Second impression: Great music, horribly recorded/engineered.
Sadly the label don't is the original, that label looks too modern, too toy to my taste.
