When you know all the little details of Peter Pan it makes a lot of little details in Never stick out and become more nostalgic.
A lot of people say this book has no plot, and I understand that at first glance, but this book was sprinkled with things to come in the next books (aside from the back and forth of that love triangle😂) and I’m excited to see where this goes. I honestly loved this. I loved the whimsy and the explanations and imagery. Is it perfect? No.. I agree she should’ve been 18. I know some people hate this.. but I ate it up regardless. 😅❤

I agree with you! Definitely felt all the whimsy and nostalgia. I think I just expected a tad more of an established story in the first book. I’m trusting the process and will be continuing for sure!

Completely agree with all your thoughts on this. You hit the nail on the head.

Oh my god the original book is so incredibly relevant to this book - Peter’ character and the narrative is so different in the films, Hollywood have to cute everything up.

Agree with you 100%! I managed to bypass a lot of the weirdness in the beginning and became invested about 150 pages in and thought, there has to be a good ending or cliff hanger to makeup for all of this. All these subplots were just passing us by with not much context and was left feeling so unsure of what I just read 😂 I think my favorite aspect was the luggage area in the clouds, that was such a great concept. I’ll probably read the second one because at this point, I need answers.

Yes, I LOVED the baggage drop-off. It was so whimsical. I wanted more of that 🥹

I have this weird feeling that Rye has a bigger role to play. The way both Peter and Jem hurt Daph, and the way Rye is always there for her, should mean something.

Why do authors have to tip toe around and change words just because everyone these days are so sensitive. She’s not crazy and it’s not crazy what she did. People are too sensitive. You’re not aware.

You’re the one not aware if you don’t think that wording was crazy… Like I said, I know the intention was not harmful. And it doesn’t even affect me. But it’s 2023 and we can take an extra moment to think about how the things were saying are coming off. Like I said in the video, I’m not even placing the blame entirely on Jessa. I just think it’s wild dozens of people read over it and didn’t think maybe we could have switched around a few words to not sound racially insensitive.

I agree. I don't know how old you are but maybe it's this generation. I read it and did not see anything offensive. I re-read it and my mind did not go there at all. I think the point was to get us into the mood of this boy who loves to play and she sees that his feet are really dirty and maybe it's his legs, too but no it's because he's always playing outside in the many suns of Neverland and it made his legs very tan. I think we have become very sensitive in our culture now. Immediately, we're looking for something to be offended at. Intention is very important, and we should not jump immediately to that person is being racially insensitive. Sit back. Take a breath. And really think about it. Don't let your assumptions bring about these emotions that run wild. Jessa herself is a very tan, beautiful woman. She's not trying to hurt anyone. And again, I didn't see anything in this book that was offensive. I won't touch on Brownie because my comment will be way longer than it needs to be. Let's all just stop trying to find** things to be offended by. Peace and positivity to all ✌️

I read "Peter Pan" for the first time this year and had so many problems with it regarding the message, the characters, and the story in general. Peter Pan is a petulant child and he is not a redeemable character.
I wonder if Jessa Hastings's book "Never" is meant not to play out as a friends to lovers story and if since it's called "Never" if Peter's character gets redeemed in this story/series at all.
I haven't decided if I will read this book or not.

This is why words are so important … because a dark skinned person can read this line and feel offended or some type of way.
It’s crazy how she wrote that line and during her read through ( if she did that) wasn’t like “ now how does this line sound “ and never mind that … why did the team not pick it up and say maybe let’s change that …. It’s the job of the editors to pick things like this .
I can see why people would be puzzled by the fact she has a popular book with a black main character and yet she thought that line was ok.
I think if a white author is gonna write e.g. about a black character they would need to have done their research and same thing would be expected of a black author writing about a white character .
It may not have been her intention to make it come out like that but it’s not like she is not aware of things that go on in the world.
Anyway she made a mistake and it will be a lesson learnt .

I appreciate your very honest reviews as always. I was so excited about this book. Honestly I could not finish it for multiple reasons. I just felt kind of uncomfortable and I agree all the edits this book passed through someone should’ve been like ‘’hey folklore or not this may be racially insensitive’’.

I guess Jessa can get away with it because she did her research but what about other authors that legit put racist things in books & nobody says anything about it. Authors excuse(she had permission from her friends because they aren't offended)
