As a bit of a super dexta geek (having owned one for nearly thirty years) there’s a few points that were missed,
The major had a Fordson 4 cylinder engine putting out approx 50 hp and was generally considered a big/heavy duty tractor at the time used for ploughing, cultivating and other heavy jobs
The super dexta had a Perkins 3 cylinder engine built under license by Fordson and 35-40 hp it was aimed more towards lighter jobs like hay making, rolling and orchard work
Super dextas started production in 1962, changed colours along with the major in late 1963 and ended in 1964 when the 2,3,4 and 5000 came out and initially these carried on the names 2000-dexta, 3000-super dexta, 4000-major and 5000-super major.
Both tractors were and still are very well built and if reasonably maintained they are both still easily capable of doing a good day’s work 🚜👍🏼
Thank you Graham for adding the extra information
Great old tractors that I wish I wish I had more of , not just in England.
What do you have Curtis?
Love the little Dexta ❤ it’s a shame Ford don’t make tractors anymore but at least New Holland are still in Basildon, Essex
Thank for sharing your thoughts Mike our favourite is the Super Dexta too!
As an Essex lad I found this very interesting ... I learned a few thing I didn't know !
Thank you Philip
Very well presented thank you
Thank you David
You missed out a range, after the Power Major you had the Ford Pre Force (a different grill) the Ford 4000 shown is a Ford Force
Depends on the tires mounted if compressing soil, not only weight.
Odd front wheels...just like mine! 🙂
So what was the difference between the Super Major and the Power Major?
Hello Rinty , thank you for your comments - Power Major 48hp Super 52hp power plus as mentioned the live PTO added to Super Major , please make sure you subscribe 😊
Don’t rev the engine so much when there is no load on it
