Dude, it was just a few days ago that I searched youtube for 'Jorge Borges', hoping to find a documentary or something similar on my literary hero and it lead my to your channel. You are doing a great great job. I've already ordered three books based on some of your reviews. Please keep going!
I may have left a comment on this video long ago but just rewatched it and man, this is such a fantastic review of Chronology of Water. It's one of my all-time favourite books. Lidia Yuknavitch is brilliant. Have you read Dora: A Headcase by Lidia? It's fantastic. Fiction, a retelling of Freud's case study on a patient he called Dora, but told from Dora's POV. It's so good. Thank you for all the work you put into your videos. These are the kinds of reviews I want to do but do not have the time for. Also, did you know Chronology of Water is being made into a movie? I don't think filming has even started but it's in the works and Kristen Stewart is either in it or writing the script... or both - I forget now. AND, yes, absolutely what you said about the most damaged lives bringing the greatest art.
I’m a big fan of Bataille but Story of the Eye has remained on my shelf, unread, for years. Not sure how I’ve accomplished that, but I will have to rectify that shortly. Will have to pick up Chronology of Water too. Thanks.
You're draining my wallet with all these new books you're forcing me to buy! By the way, just finished Eugene Vodolazkin's 'Laurus' and it might just be the best book I have ever read in my entire life! I can't recommend it enough, I think you will love it
This is a good indication of why we are doomed as a society. In other words, great job! I love how you are branching out with this channel. Please check out some Henry Miller. Tropic of Cancer is the ur-text for all of this edgy confessional lit. Anais Nin is also very important. Fear of Flying by Erica Jong carries on the tradition, and is also a fun read. The 1970s was dark and freewheeling.
I will always read her writing. I read this one back in 2015, I think. It was pretty gutting. The Story of the Eye has always been my litmus test for possible reader friends. What an amazing book. Thanks for a great review.
Here’s a book you might consider reading: “Suicide” by Édouard Levé. I was thinking about buying a second copy to send to you, but In light of recent events, I no longer have the funds to do so. It’s a painful read and one that will stay with you forever. It offers you nothing more than a glimpse at another human’s suffering, but in doing so it evokes a wonderful sense of compassion. The story becomes even more gut-wrenching after learning that the author himself committed suicide just ten days after publishing it. So Although it’s a work of fiction, the author’s final act turned it into what I can only describe as an autobiography written somewhat vicariously through the character’s account of his friend’s suicide. Based on the type of books you review, I think you’d fall in love with this heartbreaking story. After reading it, Levé’s suffering will forever weigh heavily on my heart. But it’s a suffering so pure and fundamentally human that it became nearly indistinguishable from my own and I think that’s beautiful. I’m sure you will too.
Götter dämmerung Yeah, I didn’t have any issues with the translation. It was hard for me to find a copy in English, but I was able to purchase one from a third party seller on Amazon. It’s an amazing book.
Indeed, what a f*cking strange time we live in with the censorship. I wanted to make a film review on La Belle Noiseuse (1991) (The Beautiful Troublemaker ) - and they said the image was containing explicit images (it only showed her naked upper back) :( Great book review! But I still wait for another clip like Georges Perec one in the cemetery. That was legendary. :D Even though you lost your phone hah. :D
Recently I find ‘the map and the territory’ as my favorite book from Michel Houellebeqc. It would be great if you could do the third review from Houellebeqc on the channel!!
I recently read this, and discovered her at your suggestion. I'm curious however to know your opinion concerning to what extent you believe that this manuscript was altered for content prior to publishing? It seems that although it is eloquent and well written, it also seems as though it may be somewhat "Watered down" in places. Having read this with respect, and awe for her writing skill; I have experienced all of these same things that she wrote about myself, however my story is much more raw. I mean when is Heroin addiction ever really an afterthought mentioned in passing? To what extent do you believe this novel was altered for content before publishing, and do you agree with that process for editing content in order to publish? To what extent is it either: acceptable, or an abuse of the writers integrity?
The equivalent of wine in this case… wouldn’t water be too fitting? You could always splash a little in your face or spill some drops on your shoes to tacitly agree we are fools already and it might show again during our conversation.
Hello, Im just finishing this amazing book that I totally recommend you and everybody to read. Satantango by Laszlo Krasznahorkai its just fucking amazing. Like Susan Sontag said he is "The Hungarian master of the apocalypse". The director Bela Tarr also made a movie of the book that is 7 hours and a half of duration, everybody says that is a beautiful film, one day I will have the guts to watch it. Please read the book man, I know you gonna like it, I would love to see a review in the channel.
You're on a roll lately, interesting review. Another to add to my never ending list of books!
I'm so happy I've found this channel! So many books that I never heard that I really want to read.

You inspire a lot of us to read more, and that intro was something new. Also we need a shelf/coffee tour? Something like that

So great. I'm definitely reading this, soon. And, I'll probably read it--where?--when I return to *Portland* in June ... Thanks, Cliff.

Don’t mind me. Just here to help the algorithm.

Hi Cliff, great review! I wanted to ask you if you still have a PO box since you move so often. There's a book I absolutely need to send to you.
Hi there, you may like Tower Struck by Lightning by Spanish writer Fernando Arrabal. Also Nothing by Swedish author Jane Teller. Xx
Thank you, this is great

Dude, this book looks fantastic! Is the English translation good?

I started reading it today.
Clifford, interestingly, at least for me, you haven't done a haruki murakami review - anything planned for the near future?

My favourite book. It's given me so much strength ❤️
My library is wall-sized and 3 books deep. You're killing me, man.
Great review!!!!!! Kristen Stewart will direct a movie based on the memoir. Can’t wait!!
Could you please review The Blind Owl? It's a really challenging book and I'd love to hear your opinion about it.
Recently I find ‘the map and the territory’ as my favorite book from Michel Houellebeqc. It would be great if you could do the third review from Houellebeqc on the channel!!
CLIFFORD SARGENTA! WHERE IS THE NEW VIDEO!?
is Cliff a writer himself? Does he have any books?
I highly reccomend Austerlitz by W.G. Sebald. It's a bit of a tough read to grasp but well worth the effort!
i would love to know what you would think of Biting the Sun by Tanith Lee.
can you just do a bookshelf tour and be done with it thx xoxo
I started posting such videos on my channel, but haven't continued.

Keeping the reading list going down can be hard a times, for good and bad.
Any chance for a Moby Dick review anytime?
