Hey man! Juan here. I’ve got this book in my list and it’s been there for a long time. Also for a long time I’ve been scared to read it (and a lot of other ones too). The thing is I love it’s topic, esotericism and the likes of it, but I’m so deeply terrified of madness and losing control. I love that darkness, that boundlessness but it is scary. I feel it like a challenge, a door to cross to be free of that fear that also calls me, lures me like a void. Have you ever felt the same? I admire your reviews because it feels like you help me get there, enlighten the path without losing your darkness. Still for the moment, most books like this remain on my list. Hugs as always! ❤
Chilean narrative has always been eclipsed by Chilean poetry. I’m really glad you read this incredible novel. I highly recommend you to read My Tender Matador by Pedro Lemebel and Distant Star by Roberto Bolaño.
Like you Clifford it took me months to get through the newly released unabridged version, which I just finished a few weeks ago. It definitely has moments and I’ll never forget that I read it, but it was honestly borderline nonsense to me. A lot of authors I admire love it, so maybe I just don’t “get it”. Maybe a reread some years down the line.
This is going on my list right NOW. Thank you, for the review!
I've heard of this one, "black magical realism" is a compelling coinage.

I don’t think this one is for me but I wish it was. I really appreciate you, Clifford!
Oh man, I’m ordering this from my local library TODAY
God this book fckn rules
We love a good myth. Dark magical realism should be recognized as its own subgenre!

Wow! I'm the first to comment?!! (I best submit this comment BEFORE I'm NOT the first to do so.)
Grimes, why won’t you answer my emails. I have a selection of obscure vegetables for you!
Can you please read “A Confederacy of Dunces,” by JK Toole. I promise you won’t regret it
I only come here to check which books not to read.😎
