Not gonna lie I used to hate practices in hs, and got nervous af before matches. Now 7 years later I wish I could go back and do it all over again. I still watch and follow college and my hs Alma matre closely
I started wrestling in 4th grade and by high school would've played any other sport if I could've been as good in it as I was at wrestling, won a state championship and became an all american in college, and looking back, if I could do it all over again I would, but with so much more joy and motivation, you only live once, make the most of it. Im proud to say I was a wrestler
Hey I finished my first season of wrestling as a freshman and part of me wants to do it again and another part of me doesn’t. Do you have any thoughts on that for me?
I used to hate practices. Now, almost seven years after my last match, I miss it. Especially now since my dad, who was an assistant during my high school days has passed
Joshua Sanchez I wrestle right now I am going to nationals and I love it. I do it to beat the shit out of people. It is the sport that takes the most dedication.
Cutting weight blows. If you don’t have to cut weight wrestling is so much fun! If you have to cut weight all season no thanks! Freshmen and Sophomore year I was 189 weight class and loved it. My coach told me JR year first practice he wanted me at 160. I was 179 and comfortable at the time. Worst season!
I hate everything about it but when I leave a tournament with a medal in my hand and a singlet covered in blood I know what being alive really is. My reason is that it has given me certain intangible things that you can't get anywhere else. The work and pain sometimes is a reward in and of itself, just knowing that while others choose the easy path I chose the hard one. And for that I am rewarded with toughness unlike any other, and one hell of a fighting spirit. My cauliflower ear is my most prized possession.
I would say I wrestled to push my self and to stay determined in a routine (also the brutal nature of the interactions on the mat was a huge bonus for aggression you can't get out in everyday life)
I wish my school had wrestling. Since it pushes you to your limits and helps you become stronger both physically and mentally . Not to mention that it is just fun in general to do. I used to wrestle with my friends since the school didn’t have a team, and it was mad fun low key ( even though I lost sometimes )
Its about the grind. its about winning. plus having a team that can help you train and improve even though at a tournament its just depends on how good you are is pretty cool too.
wrassler/coach 74- 2014 The answer is obvious. With no tools, which one of us can dominate the other. Men exit the birth canal for this task. Very noble/worthy I might add.
Boys wrestle because wrestling pushes you to your limits and its something you can always improve at with the amount of hard work you put in and wrestling teaches you that you might not be athletic as you think you are because their is no breaks in live wrestling
Wrestling is hard because of the conditioning we go through. Personally, I don’t cut for wrestling matches, instead I bulk up, or increase my weight to become bigger and stronger. It’s to dominate other weight classes. Currently, I’m looking to bulk up to 135 or 140 because naturally I’m 128-132lbs. I think if I bulk up to 140 I would feel slower, but I have increased potential in maximizing my strength.
I think if you can accomplish 8% body fat and eat extremely lean/healthy throughout the season, 1 or 2 days of cutting weight properly is about right, you should be able to eat light meals daily and not dehydrate more than 5 lbs
@Spartan cut out salt and processed foods, 2 days before weighins, eat baked chicken breast, skin marinated with some soduim or sugar should be ok, turkey or eggs ( hard boiled for school lunch), eat brocolli (lightly steamed can add some mayo or ranch) any dark green vegies is good, fruit with high water content is excellent etc, cut out bread and carbohydrates,,, drink lots of water for those 2 days, 72 ounces daily or more if practicing (waterloading),,, and it sould flush your system out of salt and water in the next 2 days of peeing and practice, might not drink water day of weighins... after weighins drink Pedialyte don't over do too much salt, and drink orange juice and water to replinish what you lost, eat carbohydrates and proten accordingly... you'll realize its more discipline but easier and great results, experiment until you do what works for you... cutting weight is not easy, its easier the more discipline you have... if wrestlers want to eat whatever they crave, then they don't have the mental game to be the best they can be, imo. and one last thing, sometimes parents get in the way of a solid diet because they don't understand what you're doing and will serve you whatever everyone else is eating at dinner.. Gudluck kiddo
@Spartan, yes, wrestled when I was ten and coached high school for 7 years.. I also follow George Lockhart, he works with mma fighters diets and water weight loss.. I know a lot about it in general
I have done many sports and martial arts in my life and i agree that wrestling is the toughest! I was a pro mma fighter for some years. I was injured more in mma but wrestling is harder training.
I wrestled as well but maybe it was just me. They both can be hard depending on your viewpoint of the sport.swimming has things that make it hard but so does wrestling.
Everyone cuts weight. Nobody forces you but yes you would just be a scrub not matching up because someone else will take your spot. And if you try to take the weight class of your walk around weight you’re competing with a guy on your team way bigger than you that cut 10-15 pounds. Nobody forces weight cues because it naturally works out
Wrestling is the hardest sport in the world carry you and the company at the same time with a 24 7 schedule traveling with serious injuries and no time off and screaming fans constantly in your face and in the airport to then have to do it all over again the same way tmrw
Nah g think again boxing is the hardest sport getting a shot flown at you full force to your skull is something that you need to experience before saying that wrestling is the hardest sport especially in professional boxing where you need to be exactly at the correct weight
Yet so many people think baseball players are real athletes on par with wrestlers, boxers, mma etc. What a joke😂🤣. I try to explain to people and pathetically guys oftentimes that there is a huge difference between little boy games and grown man gladiator shit💪👊🤙
Plus, the feeling of losing is just crushing as you can’t hide behind a team. Combat sports and wrestling helped me gain confidence and how to keep my cool when things just suck.
Preparation For the bigger calling in life. The united states marine corps. Little do you know, the hardest wrestling matches will not prepare you for parris island in the summer.
The first kid has it all wrong he loses that is why he hates it you can see it in his eyes he hates it because he sucks not because he has to “cut weight” he needs to actually get good for once and wrestle. Also I don’t know a single person who has hated wrestling when doing it they all say yeah wrestling is awesome I love it even throughout all the hate the sport gets.
I have a lot of different reasons to do it and im not putting this in a 1 is the best or the last one is the worst all the reasons for me are = It is just very fun for me I want to get stronger Wrestling gives you a feeling that you just cant explain Talking to people I have never talk to before I wanted to do a fighting sport for a bit and than I found out my school had wrestling And I'm really happy I try it if your interest In trying it here are some things to know You would wrestling people in your class like if your 140 you would wrestling some one who is 140 You would get hurt my first day someone broke a bone but I have been doing it for a year and I'm fine It is a team sport not solo so try not to have a big ego If there is anything I miss let me know in the comments plz and thx you

I would say that swimming is a harder sport than wrestling. You are using every single muscle in your body at the same time just to move yourself through the water. I have been swimming for 16 years and I still think it it is a really hard sport.
Alex Hayes I swam for a few years on a national level and wrestled. wrestling is more than just overpowering someone. You have to think 3,4,5 moves ahead while reacting towards the current move or situation while trying to muscle someone over and while trying to drown the crowd out and listening to your coach in the corner of the mat. I can say that wrestling was the harder sport
Alex Hayes swimming is hard but imagine deadlifting your bodyweight for 2 minutes straight, 15 sec rest, 2 minutes again 15 sec rest then 2 minutes again and then times that by 10
Taylor Cottam yes I agree I played full back, and middle line backer, was also on the kick off return team, and ya I encountered lots of hits, when wrestling started I don’t recall ever getting hurt like in football, I dnt know wrestling is not the toughest though
Taylor Cottam I agree it is hard but not the toughest, in HS football I knew good wrestlers that could not exceed in that sport. something in our city boxing gym.
If u think that those are harder after taking in every aspect of wrestling meaning not just the wrestling then wrestling is harder if u say it’s not then u weren’t a wrestler u just wrestled there’s a difference between wrestling the action and being a wrestler
Pretty simple why I wrestle. I just love the feeling of doing what barely any others can handle
💪💪🤙
Most people can’t handle gymnastics either.
Same here🤼❤
My favorite part was showing everybody how tough I was. I loved manhandling other guys on the mat, lol.
@@brookewilson7246 Gymnastics is very tough.
That feeling of winning and getting a medal. After cutting weight and hours on the mat grinding is simply euphoric to me.
