Governments shouldn't have needed to go into recession. They could have moved to sustainable renewable resources earlier. Plenty of alternatives have already been waiting to be used, all they needed was investment (not bailouts). Post pandemic, let's see if things change for the better. We've stolen their land, their territory, for years. It's lovely to see wildlife take it back ..albeit temporarily. When the world starts trading again. Production will be working so hard to make up for lost time, and people will surge to move freely that the environmental impact will be worse than before Covid-19. The forests of Borneo displacing Orangutan, the African plains and foests given over to agricultural in Africa affecting multiple species- lions painted dogs hyenas elephant? Many species have smaller litters when times are tough, or even none. We don't. We continually expand the population, and expand agriculture/business into natural habitats regardless of how it effects local wildlife. Or even local people now stuck living on flood plains. Until businesses find a big incentive to preserve habitat rather than build on it. There's no solution just a sad demise of the natural world.

I always say when someone flinches at a lion killing an antelope - that's why there is lots of antelope and much fewer lions. The antelopes can sustain their species despite the losses as they have the numbers to survive. However unlike humans, animals don't have bulldozers and machinery expanding their territory. They can't sustain populations when there is less and less land to live off and in.
