Akh Kashni - This folk song highlights the complex relationships that come when a woman is married into a household.
My mother and my Granny used to sing this song for me adding their own unique bits into the lyrics and I have fond memories about the same. This is my rendition of Akh Kashni as I remember it

Your voice is perfect, the musical interpretation is contemporary yet timeless, the presentation is classy, and despite all the modern-ness your voice still retains a desi flavor - your Punjabi sounds authentic, unlike that of a lot of other artists. And I'm soo glad that someone in India is making a real effort to be a true artist with a unique presence and has a taste for these old melodies, which have been very popular but haven't been heard in a long, long while!

I found this gem through Sanya Malhotra's shorts and fell in love with it can't get enough of it. Preparing dance on it. Just danced on kashni dupatta on my brother's wedding. Not to forget Surinder Kaur the original singer.
I would have never have imagined the rather suggestive connotations behind the lyrics of this traditional Punjabi folk song! Only on watching the video and listening very carefully to the lyrics, did it become evident that this song brings to light the trials and tribulations of a newly married woman's life whilst living with her in laws. It demonstrates that the newly married woman must 'adapt' her personalities to the role of being the 'good' wife, whilst trying to maintain the impression of 'innocence' and subservience with her in laws. Beautifully executed.
Can we appreciate Sobhita Dhulipa for directing us towards this gem!!!!

My Mother was from Surinder Kaur's time and I am of yours. My mother's family was from Multan pre 1947. No language like Punjabi.
