according to scp: secret laboratory's wikia page: "Since the coin has no purpose, it is common for moderators and admins to fill inventories of players as a joke."
If you upgrade the coin in SCP 914, it has a chance of getting a moderate level key card, gun, or random item that has some use.
So the coin does have some use, you need to know how to unlock the its usefulness.

@Shadow Stalker If you use the micro you can recharge it with 914 on the Fine setting I believe. Helpful guy on Reddit made a flow chart of 914 upgrading/downgrading, especially with the keycards.
That is dependent on the server, some have quarters do nothing, some let them be used in 914

294 is in the game, when you use it, it reads "You need a coin" thus when the coins come in
yes, we tried adding the coin but we didnt have the cup... Nothing happens with the coin alone
Even if you DO have a coin and come across 294 (before he got ultimately taken out) it still wouldnt allow you to access it.

They should add scp 035, but its on a person and it can bring tentacles from the ground at will
Me is from future and some servers of SCP: SL DO have that, they also have an invisible man scp that can only be seen with a flashlight and if you shoot (near) it. But scp 035 can't shoot tentacles from the ground, though they can be undercover and secretly kill you. But you probs already knew that.
