wait do I need to do any alignment at all? Just pointing is all there is to it? Is it a combo of having gps set the coordinates of your location that it knows how the sun will travel or does the sun travel the same way even without that piece of info? I assume the video glanced over the tracking must be set to solar mode. If you could explain the science happening behind the scenes that would be very helpful. In any case I bought one, can't wait to try it out.

I believe you do have to power the scope on in its zero position for alt-az mode, which is in the manual. It shows the scope pointing straight up, scope on the right side of the mount when you're standing facing the mount and facing South (for those of us in Northern latitudes.) So the scope would be on the west side of the mount.

Also noticed the video is not using weights to balance the azimuth axis. At what weight of scope do you recommend using it to balance?

I put just the bar with no weights on it for the slight load of my camera/ASIAIR/ZWO focuser/DSLR camera when in alt-az mode, and that's mostly to balance the tripod, not the mount itself.

I have this exact mount as my first mount ever. I will figure it out eventually 😅
