I’ve got just two of them, and they have been in the tank for 15 years. The idea that they are miserable and die if not in a large school is overstated
I heard of clown loaches living 50 years. One guy had them 17 years and had been in a local fish shop for 34 years before that! There's an article out there about it.
@@oni1261 Yes that is myself. The oldest Clown Loach I have found, by communicating with other owners, expired at 32 years of age. Mid twenties is the age at which most exceptionally long-lived examples pass away. Very few of the 50 million Clown Loaches exported from Indonesia each year reach this age.
Thanks for your good information Sir. Once some 20 years back I had a pair of clown loaches kept in community tank that lasted for a month or two and both eventually died simultaneously. I seriously condemn my ignorance on how to keep clown loaches. Now I am a hobbiest keeping discus successfully.
I've had glass 100 gallon clown loach tank for 25 years, I've had as few as 3 and as many as 13 in the tank at once,of the original 3 that I started with, all lived 20+ years with 1 still alive, he's totally blind and has been for the last 5 or 6 years, I have 7 other clown loaches in the tank and all are teenagers, I've always run 2 hang on back filters simultaneously with one under cabinet filter, 2 strong air sucking power heads circulate the tank, they're fed once in the evening and their diet consists of daily sinking shrimp pellets and wafer crisp flakes with frozen bloodworms as a treat 2-4 times a week depending on their behavior lol, they really love bloodworms, I do a 30 gallon water change every 4 to 6 weeks, alternating the cleaning of the 2 HoB filters and the 1 under cab filter, they've had a variety of tank mates over the years, a bala shark (5yrs), a leaf fish (9yrs), a Chinese and as Siamese algae eater at separate times, both lived 7 years, two large plecostomus (15&16yrs) and several others I cried over the deaths of two of my original three loaches, my Chinese algae eater Lemonhead and my two plecos, so Yes, fish deaths can break your heart The Chinese algae eater was the hardest working fish I ever had, he constantly was working for me, he took no breaks, he cleaned the whole tank, it's funny cuz I got the pleco's cuz I was told they cleaned the tank, they don't, they're lazy, they slept all day and waited till the evening feed when I dropped algae wafers in, then they'd wake up, they were lazy but I loved them, they sure exploited the work ethic of Lemonhead. Cheers fellow aquarists
I have 3 in a tank with a dojo, the problem is the temp. I have had them 3 years, the temp is 75. I tried to pick a medium temp where all can live happily. The clown loaches stay together and play a lot.
I have one 22 year old clown loach. Her partners died over the last two years and she is now alone. I am coming to the end of my fish keeping years but don't want to see her so lonely. Any suggestions of tank mates maybe shorter lived species that could keep her company?
Hi, I have 6 clown loaches that are 15 yrs old. I feed them a varied diet (skinned peas, blood worms, brine shrimps, flakes and sometimes garlic) and I do 30% water changes each week. Two of them are becoming very thin, is this normal when they get this old? The other 4 are still very plump. Not too sure what it is, so I began to soak their food in garlic guard and giving them vitamins, as I suspect they could have parasites. What do you think??? All the water parameters are normal. My tank is 90 gallons.

I personally have not seen that article but if taken care of correctly they can live a long happy life,
I do believe there's a guy here on RUclips that has been the owner of some Loaches for 27 years or something like that.

@@yamagaming6237what did you name it
I have 5 in my 65 gallan and they are doing super good
3:47 a quick google search says that they actually prefer acidic water.
Do they need tankmate? Or better if only them in the aquarium?

There is lots of videos showing them to live for well over 20 year's
If we need 4 or more would a 75 gal work?
Can 2 be kept in a 60 gallon tall tank?
I personally wouldn't place more than 2 in a 60 gallon tank. You also have to take into consideration any other tank mates.
Good deal!!! Thx for the help.
Can I get clown loaches in a 50 gallon
You can place a few in a 50 gallon tank but eventually you may have to either get a bigger tank or a separate tank to split them up.
Can I put 4 in a 120 gallon?
U can get away with 6 of them in a 125
Mine is over ten I think your facts are wrong
