Kallis and the Proteas came to my cricket club one day to prepare for a test against the Aussies in Cape Town. The bowling coach at the time, Corrie van Zyl decided to put him through his paces in the nets, the very same nets where me and my fellow cricket mates practiced every time. No. This is why that statement is incorrect. Sobers was. Sobers is the greatest cricketer of all time; Donald Bradman is the greatest batsman of all time. That's the way it's been since the 1970s and the way it will be until Gary's exploits pass out of living eyewitness memory. G-Man was much more exciting than JK. Debuted against England at 17. He smashed bowling attacks in a way Kallis never did, pouncing and leaping onto that ball no matter where it pitched with a feline grace and power nobody could ever forget. So when you mean complete, did Kallis ever bowl much spin (off spin AND leggies/Chinamen; Sobers did, of course)? Did he ever hold the highest individual Test innings record or score a triple ton and hold the record for runs in a Test career? (Kallis could never build truly big scores; Sobers' 365 when he was 22 was his first Test century, I think) Did he ever hit six sixes in an over? Sobers was the first. It goes on. However, Kallis was perhaps the most consistent and dependable cricketer of all time, a brilliant run accumulator, only second behind Sachin during the last 30 years, which is of course genius in its own way. Longevity is a good thing. Then again, second wind here, Sobers has a Test batting average of 57.7 without wearing a helmet against Dennis Lillee or having the luxury of playing against teams like against Zimbabwe, like Kallis did, which is why Jacky boy got his average up to a still very impressive 55.4. Most complete? What about captaining your national side. Gary captained the Windies 1965-73 when he retired; his batting never suffered, such was his eye and powers of concentration. Kallis did a couple of Tests - that's it. He was too busy scoring centuries (and saving his team from batting collapses) Sobers wins EVERY time. His stance , His Big shots from the 90's cricket to entering into an another decade simply said one thing to the others i.e. he was always a defiant player it is like he wanted to control the batting game.
1st ball-Nice ball that from the pigeon, the ball pitched on a good length and just nipped away. Kallis ended up beaten and lucky him, didn't knick the ball. 2nd ball-Kallis was couragesous on that ocassion I must say as ball swing in the air and kallis came close to the pitch of the ball and managed to find the space through the gully region to earn 4 runs for his team. 3rd ball-Full length delivery bowled wide of off stump, kallis leaned in and hit the ball through the covers for an excellent boundary all along the ground 4th ball-Warne bowled a leg break, full length and kallis dancing fown the track picked up both line and length of the delivery and sends it to long off boundary gor four more runs.Excellent batting that by Kallis. 5th ball-Short of a good length delivery, kallis rocked on to his backfoot quickly and the weight transfer was excellent on this occasion and smashed the ball over the head of short midwicket fielder for another boundary. That ball was in the air for quite some time. 6th ball-Short of a good length delivery, kallis again picks up the length, rocks on to his backfoot and pulls the ball infront of the deep square leg fielder for another boundary. 7th ball-That was a leg break from macgill and was short and wide too, kallis manages to hit past shane warne at 1st slip for another boundary, kallis was lucky to earn a boundary on that occasion. 8th ball-Short ball and kallis pulls it for another boundary through the square leg region this time. Good bowling that by symonds as he bowled as per the field set for him but he didn't possess enough venom to cause any problem to kallis.Along with that kallis brought up his half century. 9th ball-Leg break full length delivery, kallis dancing down the track picked up the variation and also the length and hit the ball to long off boundary for a four. 10th ball-Leg break again, kallis this time stood in his crease and creamed the ball through the point region for a boundary. 11th ball-Short ball from Glenn Mcgrath, kallis hooks the ball to another boundary through the square leg region. 12th ball-Leg break and was bit short enough for kallis to rock on to the backfoot and cut the ball past the backward point fielder for a boundary. Good shot that. 13th ball-Short of a good length delivery and kallis pulls the ball in the square leg region for another boundary. 14th ball-Short and wide of off, asking for punishment.Kallis pulls the ball over the head of short mid-wicket fielder for an excellent boundary. Poor bowling that by Glenn Mcgrath. 15th ball-Googly completely gone wrong on this occasion as kallis made full use of that full toss ball to earn himself another valuable 4 runs. 16th ball-Short and wide of off,leg break, kallis again rocks on to the back foot and cuts the ball through the point region for another boundary. With that boundary, kallis brought up another century in test match cricket for South Africa. 17th ball-Short ball aimed at Kallis's head by Glenn Mcgrath. Even though kallis was not in complete control managed to pull the ball for another boundary. Square leg fielder who was bit finer couldn't stop the ball from reaching the boundary. 18th ball-Short ball induces a miscued pull shot from kallis as he got holed out at deep fine leg boundary on this ocassion thanks to an excellent bouncer from Symonds. Excellent and quite scintillating batting that by the premiere all rounder from South Africa.

His stance , His Big shots from the 90's cricket to entering into an another decade simply said one thing to the others i.e. he was always a defiant player it is like he wanted to control the batting game.
unpopular opinion: Kallis is truly the best player pf all time
Watching this as a South African it again reminds me why Adam Gilchrist was my favourite overseas player. What a gentleman!
@4:54 Gilchrist giving hand shake to kallis century, How after do we see now a days.. Great personalities.
Greatest cricketer of all time
Jack Kallis one of the most Talented and all time Great Allrounder for me
South African sachin
No.01 Test and ODIs player
Excellent all-rounder kallis
Very classy player extraordinary All-rounder
1st ball-Nice ball that from the pigeon, the ball pitched on a good length and just nipped away. Kallis ended up beaten and lucky him, didn't knick the ball.
2nd ball-Kallis was couragesous on that ocassion I must say as ball swing in the air and kallis came close to the pitch of the ball and managed to find the space through the gully region to earn 4 runs for his team.
3rd ball-Full length delivery bowled wide of off stump, kallis leaned in and hit the ball through the covers for an excellent boundary all along the ground
4th ball-Warne bowled a leg break, full length and kallis dancing fown the track picked up both line and length of the delivery and sends it to long off boundary gor four more runs.Excellent batting that by Kallis.
Most criminally underrated batsman
1 no all rounder of cricket
