Ableton 12: Game-Changer or Just Another Update? My No-BS Take

- As a RUclipsr, I take pride in not accepting sponsorships. This enables me to express my honest opinions when trying out new software. Ableton has always required its users to pay for upgrades to access the latest features. Live 12 offers new features, MIDI editions, workflow changes, a mixer on the arrangement window, and a new distortion effect. My philosophy has always been that if you already have invested in third-party plugins, then do you really need to upgrade to Ableton Live 12 if you have version 11, 10, or even 9? Particularly if you already have overhyped distortion units such as Saturn and Rift. You should understand the new workflow and then decide whether it's beneficial.

Yeah…definitely underwhelmed. As you say, I have Saturn, I never use randomisation, I can find my own samples. Another…synth…god how many synths to people need?! Gonna be a while before I spend the money on this.
I’m noticing value is in the eyes of the beholder … it’s not a static thing, but dynamic based on the user 🤙
This was dope! Those distorted examples 😅
All this is fine. I'm hoping 12 is more stable than 11.
Its so much fun learning with you! Thank you😃
The biggest thing with Ableton 12 is that they shaved down the time to do many tiny tasks such as rekeying anything, ideation, sketching, and more. All of the new tooling allows you to sketch out ideas so much more rapidly. Anything that makes workflow faster will change how you make music.
You want some insane fun? Go ram vocals through Roar and stutter those stages to a sidechain and envelope follower. You will be up all night.
Thanks for your input
@@ZenWorldThanks for making dope videos.
I guess a lot of new weird tracks will come in the future due to this obscure new techniques we don’t get at first. i think about telefon tel aviv, rdj, boards of canada, müm, many “old school avangardes” with minimal-to-none hw/sw did, would do with those tools…who knows, what is shit to some could be gold to others. I think this update is kind of a great change in the whole production panorama, maybe not just yet
I opened a project I did in version 11 in version 12 and even tho I changed nothing the CPU is under much more stress and I have a lot of audio drop outs. Anyone else notice that ?
The new midi tools are a total game changer tho especially the grouped chance
Mate that tune you made just then was a banger 😂😂🔥🔥
You are freaking incredible Zen. I knew you would be honest on this 💓 thank you for being you.
I have standard and it's perfect, I don't need roar or meld, I'm not a sound designer. I use vsts and preset packs.
When is Ableton going to add “Stems” like Serato? That should have been in this update.
One day
Where do you got that pink theme? I really like it
Has there been any improvement in the CPU usage ?
I’m loving the the upgrade/update.
Nice features overall but why so stubborn to add "real" bounce in place or edit, trim and fade multiple clips, or disabling and hiding tracks, minimal size group tracks??
Edit trim and fade multiple tracks is possible. Simply highlight the tracks you want to edit simultaneously, than make a right click and select link tracks.
It crashes my projects made on 11 every time I tried to create a midi track on 12...
Please drop those vocals in the description for science
man that song was hitting!
I suspect it won't be covered by many folks, but Live12 actually now has built-in accessibility for blind people which is a big deal as in of itself.
Which Ableton Skin do you use?
Good vid tho zen. Your opinion is of value to me!
Yeah im kinda interested. I dont have Saturn but I have Vitamin and izotope
Audio wasn’t lining up with the video at the beginning
Thanks duly noted
I share the same opinion about four tet. Ableton has several tools that I don't want to know how they work, because I don't want to be like everyone else. I don't hate update technology but I have when they put tools to help people to stay dumb and focus on tools and don't study music at all. Some of my friends say "oh I want midi tools cause I dont know nothing about music theory..." " they make aufio to midi better now I can pre made chords cause I dont know music at all" ... that shit bother me a lot to be honest. But...do whatever you wanna do.
ps* searchbar for me was the best update. lol
Features seemed interesting enough for me to NOT want to torrent it 😂🤷🏽♂️
“I teach people how to make music people want to listen to”… I’m dead

$300 clams?
I'm not sold, Zen.
I wish they'd focus on minimizing latency.
Same my dude new updates coming hopefully
Have you tried recording with monitoring off? If you leave on auto it creates latency due to monitoring.
I agree. The lack of WASAPI backend is shocking considering most daws have had it for years now.
Sigh 😔 the only thing I found is… humanize, but this is just an increment… it’s not fair to spend my $$$ for this feature (but I already have paid 😂)
only thing i liked on ableton so far is the buttons are pink 🤣
I'll buy Genesid ii b4 I buy ableton 12
The fact the midi generation tools aren't AI powered or really musical in any way feels very dated. Even the demos on their official channel for midi generation are terrible
damn im still on 10 lol
First
Just give me OTT and keep the rest bruh
You edgy as hell. You thought you could get sponsored!!!! You x rated on every stream 😂
