    You got yourself Blackie, a good effective method of making Combustible Paper Cartridges for percussion cap&ball revolvers.
    Over the years I found discovered that Thin Wax Paper makes for the overall best non nitrited paper to use as casing material to make CPC'S with my Universal Bullets.
    To be exact;
    Thin Deli Wax Paper is the most effective non nitrited paper which is very durable, self combustable, sealing, protective of the gunpowder from Water, Oil, Blood Fluids Humidity etc.
    In a recent burn test a CPC case was made with the Thin Deli Wax Paper and ignited with Factory percussion Caps, Remington #10 as well as Home made percussion Caps with the use of the Prime All kit.
    The factory made percussion Caps left a burned hole penetraiting through the bottom of the CPC casing, the size of a pencil eraser.
    The home made caps caused more burn up of the CPC case.
    Watch "Combustable Burn Rates of Thin Wax Papers For Use In Making of Combustible Paper Cartridges" on RUclips

    I just made my own cartridge mandrel and die out of a piece of oak dowel and ash block with a matching hole drilled just deep enough to bottom out my paper sticking out with about an 1/8 of paper left on top to catch the lead ball. Works great once you get a system down. Just made up 30 rounds to take to the range tomorrow.

    hello Blackie! Totally happy to have found your channel. In the mid 1970s, I bought my first gun, a Colt Navy Sheriff .36 Modell revolver. I then quickly stopped because I had too little knowledge about BP shooting. Now I mainly shoot with my Pietta 1873 .45 Colt. Reload my own ammunition. Seeing your explanation and knowledge about these blackpowder revolvers aroused my interest and I ordered an 1860 army with fluted cylinder. I'm already looking forward to applying what I've learned from you. Thank you a lot. Best regards from Austria and stay healthy, Paul

There is a bit of a learning curve with them, but after a couple of attempts, I was able to make good looking (and good shooting) paper cartridges. Senor Blackie, you ol' "Defragmented Cap Sucker" you!!! Wunnerful video AGAIN! How great to have "consumible cartridges" at hand & not have to go through messing with brass cases or loading the chambers "the old fashioned way"!! This procedure might be "lengthy", but what pleasure it gives to load them! But more than the content of your video, I want to wish YOU & YOUR FAMILY a safe & healthy MERRY CHRISTMAS & NEW YEAR! YOU give me much pleasure with your videos!! At 81, enjoying your videos takes my mind off my many aches & pains! But don't forget the real Christmas message, that of the birth of JESUS CHRIST!!! The actual date is not important. Don't know if YOU are SAVED (BORN AGAIN!!!), but no doubt you know what JESUS CHRIST is about, being in the "BIBLE belt", & that the ONLY WAY INTO HEAVEN, your ETERNAL DESTINY after death, is through inviting JESUS into you heart as YOUR PERSONAL LORD & SAVIOR! A "GOOD" Baptist Church is a very good way to find out!!! I am a proud Independent Fundamental Baptist Church member up here in far north central Illinois! Hope my "preaching" hasn't turned you off! I love you & care for your future! "Gesundheit"!!!!!

    Man, that is something I really don't see very often, Alabama must be a neat place. If I tried to make paper cartridges outside all my stuff would be in Kansas or Texas, the Panhandle is way to windy for that. As a matter of fact the wind is one reason I started making paper cartridges, measuring powder in the wind is not impossible but it is hard. However, it is nice to know there places where the wind doesn't blow all the time. Great Video as always!

    My best success with the Walker is to leave ~ 1/8" folded over the tip before applying the paper cap and when loading balls, don't trim the top end, leave paper to fold over the powder so you have a surface where you can glue the ball. I haven't made cartridges for the 1851/1858 44 yet but will probably use the same approach.

  • @woodrowbrimm2805
    @woodrowbrimm2805 Год назад

    The Kit works but sooner or later you run out of glue. I bought the purple glue sticks so I can tell when the glue is wet it's purple but turns clear when it's dry. A plastic Cartridge box for reloading works well for caring them to the range .45acp box works for .44 cap and ball if you use .45 Long Colt/.44 Mag. boxes they are a little too deep so skip one or two per row to make it easier to get a hold of the cartridges when you need them .

    I found on duelist 1954 channel he shows off little wooden boxes with holes drilled in them to hold the cartridges. I make my own and wrap them up with brown paper. I even printed my own label for them right on the paper. They look and feel amazing. A little peice of twine around on the inside makes it so you can open it easy. It's almost like what Colt would have supplied with the pistols back in the day. Maybe minus the raw papers and the elmer's glue lol. Not perfectly historically accurate but it satisfy's my want for a nice way to protect the cartridges.
    Edit: actually it may have been mark from the eras gone channel. It's been a while since I watched it but I was thinking about making my own video.

    • @BLACKIETHOMAS
      @BLACKIETHOMAS  3 года назад

      i have looked at the little wooden boxes as a cased set item..and to be honest i thought of them for field carry ..but the problem was bulk you could not carry many of them so i came up with the speedloader and foil packs to do same job but reduce bulk

    Use a plastic box that 17HMR/22 ammo comes in for a gated cartridge case, Holds 21 rounds of Walker paper cartridges. Never dry fire one of those. You'll destroy the nipples.

    I'm trying wads made of 3/16" felt soaked in 1 part lard and 8 parts coconut oil. This may be on the soft side. I haven't found a source for tallow.

      Pharmapacks sells tallow in 1 oz. Jars. You can microwave it with a cake of bees wax and pour back into the talo jars for lube.

    I live in the NW, and am very concerned about smoldering paper. Have you ever used, or heard of using, nitrated paper?

    • @karlt8233
      @karlt8233 3 года назад +1

      A lot of guys nitrate coffee filters using stump killer. It's very easy to do. After dipping the filters hang them to dry, cut into correct sizes and form the cartridge like normal.
      Be advised many ranges and events do not allow nitrated paper cartridges so keep this in mind when making nitrated cartridges.

      yes the rolling papers i use are nitrated and thus far i have had no left overs in cyl after firing..but i always check just to be sure

    Hey Blackie, thanks for the great video. Do you have to buy the entire set?
    I would need just the .44 mandrel for my Pieta 1858 Remington New Army.
    What size charge does the .44 mandrel fill to?
    Your foil field packs idea was brilliant.

    • @karlt8233
      @karlt8233 3 года назад +1

      Dustin sells them in .36, .44 or Walker individually. He also sells the .36/.44 and the .36/.44/Walker. I got the .36/.44 even though I only have .36's at present time. If I get a .44 later on I am set.

    • @Bill23799
      @Bill23799 3 года назад

      @@karlt8233 Thanks Karl. I checked and the .44 individual set is only $20.00.
      I will be ordering one today. Do you think they were made using a 3D printer?
      It will go well with the Percussion Cap maker i bought recently. Now all I need to do
      is learn how to make my own black powder.
      How hard could it be? Captain Kirk did it while being chased by a Gorn.

    • @BLACKIETHOMAS
      @BLACKIETHOMAS  3 года назад

      the 44 fits 1860 and 1858 as well as others of that size the walker can be used to make full size charges for hunting since the tube can be longer and thus hold more but for this you will need to use a seperate powder measure next fri i will have a video on this where i talk about kaido ojamas hunting bullets
