I love this. Unlike random starfield videos which can seem a bit pointless and aimless, you feel like you're making a real journey across space and actually going somewhere :)
I imagine it all the time. An opportunity to leave a planet scarred by war, pollution, environmental destruction, hatred and religious bigotry from all sides.
Just think even at 2x this video is going faster than lightspeed and look how slow it feels to see everything. Everything in the world deserved to be seen at least once by something or someone.
Watch this video at .25 speed, and you’re still moving at 18,517,500,000,000,000 mp/h, or a little over 17 million times faster than the speed of light. The universe is an incomprehensibly huge place.
Video description says it’s “only” 50,000 light years, moving at about 3.5 ly/s. But still, that’s moving at a respectable 74,070,000,000,000,000 mp/h !
We're on our way to Andromeda, we're conducting the research on why the Milky Way and Andromeda will be colliding in a few million years and why we keep receiving signals from this strange and mystical galaxy that sends out what looks like an ancient dialect. We will keep in touch with the ISS
"Captain, we're approaching our Milky Way galaxy. Will we be returning to Earth, sir?" "No. We're swimming to the other end of the pool again where we've been before. Thanks to Q."
The absolute worst thing that could happen is: Just as you finally submit and relax into the sound, breathing deep into the darkness you accidentally pause or stop the video/audio. The sudden silence is so deafening it blows your mind and your eardrums!
Throw the audience a curveball...at the 1:38:45 mark, have a Nausicaan go flying across the screen, screaming at the top of his lungs while ripping a violent shart, leaving a faint nebula trail behind. PLAY DOM-JOT!!
This is the speed they should be able to travel regularly in star trek. Imagine all the different realities they would encounter! - This is about 100,000 times faster than warp 9.9!
Exactly. This is Warp 9.99995, maximum warp given all known energy sources. Anything more would require more energy than the entire universe has produced since the Big Bang. Here we run into the ultimate "post relativistic" speed limit.
FYI (the description says this) this is Space Engine, every star will most like will have multiple planets (some will have "life" but they are currently non existent and the planet will have a funky color) that you can go to and land on (if there not a gas giant) and fly around, and it's beautiful. At the time this comment was posted, it is free. Space Engine may have a price tag in the future.
Far out in the western spiral arm of the Galaxy, there is a small unregarded yellow sun. Orbiting this star at a distance of roughly 93000000 miles Is an utterly insignificant blue-green planet whose ape-descendent lifeforms are so amazingly primitive they still think digital watches are a pretty neat idea.
Yeah but what about the ones that doubled as tiny calculators that were all the rage in the '80's? Was around that time we had more accounts of UFO sightings and activity..LGM started taking notice of us. Coincidence? I think not. The common point of every great space going civilization in the universe can be traced back to the invention of digital wrist watches that were also calculators.
Imagine it was in Autopilot, but you fell asleep. So you missed your stop point at the centre. And you wake up near the end, and fuel gauge said low...
It reminds me on the star ship Enterprise or an alien star craft travel between the stars that explains why aliens visit our planet earth at long distances of course if the aliens had FTL drive the chances are well..your guess is good is mine.
I Think I Would Rather Watch Paint Freakin DRY !! AND LUSTEN TO SOME INDUSTRIAL NOISE THANK YOU VERY MUCH !@ MATBE WATCH SOME WHITE NOISE BUT STILL LISTEN TO SOME INDUSTRIAL !! HOW YOU LIKE ME NOW ??? LOLOLOL
This isn't realistic. I mean if we were traveling faster than light then all we would see is blackness anyway, because light could never reach us. And traveling any less than the speed of light would take years to pass stars. So these stars supposedly passing at some speed makes this very unrealistic. It should be either blackness, or else it should take years just for them to move positions even slightly.

Imagine cruising in space autopilot and you're sleeping and wake up to this this beautiful sight
I would literally scream of fright
You would be a long way from home, of course...
And then you'r hit by the thought: "Oh, man, I left the oven on!"
I imagine it all the time. An opportunity to leave a planet scarred by war, pollution, environmental destruction, hatred and religious bigotry from all sides.
I actually do that.
I am watching this everyday
Love this for getting me to sleep, please don't ever take it down
No chance of that happening ;)
Just think even at 2x this video is going faster than lightspeed and look how slow it feels to see everything. Everything in the world deserved to be seen at least once by something or someone.
A LOT faster than the speed of light. The Milky Way is c. 44,000 light years across. We complete the journey in a matter of 4 hours
It really beautiful, but I could stand to watch continuously. I must break, sleep and watch again till finish. I appreciate it very much. Thank you.

For those wondering.... It is the equivalent of Warp 9.995 in the Star Trek Universe.

I play this on a projector near my bed; intercosmotic dreeeeeeams maaaaam
I'm doing the same thing.
The speed of the spaceship presented in the video is far beyond the speed of light.

This is great. Thanks! I'd love a 4k HDR version if ever possible. It's look amazing on my LG 65inch OLED
I too am watching this on an LG 65" oled haha
I got the same one, bring it on dude
Just got a 65 inch OLED. This is one of the first things I watched on it. Bliss.

Play Peter Pearson music - title: Slow trip to the Stars ..or.. Take me to the Moon.
No. No music. No matter how great you think your choice(s) might be there are others who think it sucks - including me.

maybe alien from galaxies billions of years away from milk way galaxy might have those warp drive spacecrafts.
to traverse a galaxy, you need something much faster than a starship with warp drive...lol
Make an 8 hour or longer vid !
slow down the speed, or play this on loop
Vid or .. Covid....jajajaa

fuckin loooove space engine
Wait... left the iron on. Turn back.
Ok, someone here must be able to calculate the speed of our 'ship' :)
It's in the description - 3.5 light years per second.
Alien Couch Potato Thanks! Guess I missed that!
If we were traveling in this video at the speed of light. then the galaxy is 4 light-years far away from us at the start of the video.
If you were travelling at the speed of light, the trip for you would be instantaneous...;)

I wonder if speed of light is like this... or is it faster ?... @@
The speed of light is much, much slower.
Based on the OP's quote of 3.5 LY/s, I arrived at a speed of 1.104*10^8 c (110,400,000 times the speed of light).
This works out to 7.4 x 10^16 mi/hr or 74 quadrillion miles per hour :)
BTW a light "only" travels at about 670,000,000 miles per hour.
