As a truck driver, this hit me right in the feels. The loneliness and isolation and wanting to get out of it and have more family time. But also the freedom and seeing different things and places. The want to do something different but also not wanting to give up what you are doing. It’s a hard road out there. Thank you for showing the essence of this life.
The problem is when you get ruthlessly exploited for low pay and hard hours. At least at my job I get paid pretty well and it's pretty easy a lot of the time. For some reason a lot of people can't fix stuff.
As a truck driver for a local LTL company. I have high respect for over the road drivers (OTR) cause they are the ones that put food on our table. I’m glad you gave this story a wholesome ending cause us truck drivers hardly get appreciated!
My father was a trucker, sometimes OTR, most times a local teamster. One thing he ironed into my head was that nothing would happen without truckers. Everything from the toothpaste, and toilet paper to the food in the fridge was moved by these men. They are the unsung heroes of our societies.
The sense of service is what keeps truckers going. If they thought it was a pointless job, they'd try to do something else. It's a pretty bad career to be honest.
People would find a way to survive. They would have to come together with their neighbors and form their own means of producing goods. If anything, the ability to purchase goods from around the world has devastated peoples sense of community. I’ve talked to many people from South America and they depend on local markets to get their food and other goods. They do just fine. Americans have become spoiled on a wasteful life style.
My husband is an OTR trucker, and I'm his copilot. We listen to books, news, podcasts, and all sorts of things to keep our minds busy when we aren't chatting. Occasionally, I stay home for a month to deal with business at home and see family. We stay on the phone his entire drive shift. Trucking is a hard life, but it is so necessary and important! Thank a trucker for their sacrifice and hard work! ❤
@@SCIFIguy64 Company fleet would probably just stick with one company. Kenworth/Peterbilt under Paccar or Western star/Freightliner under Daimler ect. Simplifies maintenance and such. Could be a smaller company that just gets whatever they can though. If that's the case Wojak got an awesome first trucking job, mega carriers are usually hell to work for.

Damn this video hit me. I trucked for a year back during Covid before I quit. During my first months with my trainer I witness him checking his ring camera and saw his wife had been leaving the house every night around 11pm after the kids were asleep and coming back at 1-2am. Sad shit.
@@DaOldSchoolRapLova96 trucking is a hard job for low pay. I was making 1k per week after tax and driving 70hrs per week. Living on the road and being in a different state each night. Bad for your health. I respect the men who do it because it keeps this country afloat

Introverted trucker here. Got into it to get away from people. Empty roads at night is my jam. But NYC/NJ is my kryptonite. Mad props to the drivers who manage those nightmares every day 💪
@@Certiwhippsget in with a local company that will train you, like XPO. Avoid over the road as it’s awful pay and you’re gone for at least a week if not more. During peak season even UPS will hire seasonals with no experience. Pay for newbies can be all over the place but get a year or two experience and you can make 70-100k depending on where you live.
@@CertiwhippsCertain companies pay well, some don’t. Good companies in Cali pay $65-$80k local. Regional about $80-$90, and OTR $100+. OTR is good if you are single with no family responsibilities, horrible if in a relationship, local much better. If you aren’t getting paid in these ranges minimum in states like Cali and New York, your company is undervaluing you.

10 year trucker here again. A few things they got right. 1. Your truck will be your home, especially if you are OTR. 2. It is a loners life, but just because you are alone doesn't mean you are lonely. 3. Do not get into a relationship unless she is riding with you. 4. @popcornpony8420 Yes, you are allowed. Just have to let the company know so they can add it to the insurance policy. Some truckers have their entire family with them. I have my dog, which is good enough for me.

There's a lot more to trucking than just driving. Severe eye strain, fatigue, high stress, blind spots, bad weather, wind, emergency vehicles, hemorrhoids, claustrophobia, poor sleep, inconsistent sleep schedule, break downs, blown tires, DOT inspections, border crossings, horrible horrible food options, diabetes, blood clots, heart attacks, depression, loneliness, lack of human contact, not being home for months, lack of parking, lack of bathrooms, piss puddles at every truck stop, crap puddles at every truck stop...I could go on... Trucking is brutal!
If you're not in it for yourself, you're making someone else rich, or it's like that anywhere. Ain't right. We're not robots. Long hours and low pay takes it's toll.
I'm a trucker. Company driver, 100k+ 40-50 hours a week, I get good sleep, take care of myself, and exercise. I don't snack all ride, rather chug water, and I shower 5 times a week. Not all truckers are the same.
The BIGGEST part they left out, is the ability to listen to podcasts, documentaries, independent journalists, etc. ALL DAY every day. Imagine what you would know if you were getting high level lectures delivered to you, and you had an abundance of time to absorb that knowledge. Or how many languages you could learn, or how many audio books you could get through. Don't underestimate the Truck Driver ~
No one can listen that much of a material. With time it will get tiring and you will just start listening to music. From there you elevate to the next level of brain development

@@Tota111Na. I did my whole sheet metal apprenticeship listening to audiobooks & podcasts. That was 5 years & I only listen to music in my car. Just on one app I finished over 300 by my 3rd year. There's sooo much history, that's always fascinating. Tbh I did kinda get bored of science based books tho. But I think it's because I finished all the good ones lol ...really tho, I finished all the psychology books available which even included dogs. At least available in San Jose's library system. Plus multiple in like literally every subject I even had a slight interest in

This is exactly why I choose to drive a truck. Get away from people lol. That and being outdoors in a way. I'm not stuck inside some grocery store stocking shelfs, or behind a cash register. I'm driving, something I love doing, and exploring and seeing new places which is really fun. I'm not away from home, I'm home everyday after my 12-14 hour shift. It does get lonely at times, driving at night, thinking about many things while the world is asleep. Sunny, snowy, icy, stormy, always there keeping the world moving :)
I drove 500,000 miles over the past 5 years as a OTR driver, the only accurate thing is the hometime, you're only home 3-4 days every 6 weeks. When you're 1 year into your trucking career, you have a pretty solid idea what the sacrifices are. You NEVER forget what time zone you're in, you work literally every imaginable shift hours, and you don't call it, "once I finish this job", it's more of a time frame, like 4-5 weeks on the road, than you earn a max of 3 days, 2 nights home, then back out for another 5-6 weeks. It's really a thankless job, yet it whats makes this country survive, yet all the "4 wheelers"( aka cars) is the WORST past of this job, because you all are complete A$$holes to us truckers while driving, because for some reason, you all treat us like garbage while you drive wrecklessly around us, because you all think that your time is far more valuable than ours
Because that’s what most of the truck drivers are: garbage. People don’t drive that reckless because they’re trying to harm you truck driver, that’s because they’re idiots. But as I said most of the truck drivers are garbage people: lazy, selfish, stupid. You guys have chosen to stir a stirring wheel and watch RUclips, eat garbage food and all you can talk about is “dam, I stock at the fuel island” or “man, I almost got late for delivery!”. That’s it. I understand that without truck drivers all the economy will stop. But you do this job not to help economy in any way but because that’s the only thing you can do to make your small money. There’s no way to say “oh but if everybody will quit trucking, then, THEN…!” Of course everybody will not quit trucking, because those garbage people who only can drive a truck for living will never end 😊
Depends on what company. I work for Werner and they give us 1 home day for every 6 days worked. Plus they have a bunch of accounts that differ in home time
Damn 4-5 weeks out that’s torture I’m OO hauling chemicals with Trimac I go out deliver and go back home I’m never out no more than 5 days and accept the next load whenever I’m ready to accept UNLESS they really need me to go out

As a truck driver. This is SO FUCKING ACCURATE, minus the part of Having your truck sitting at the fuel island while your going inside and sit down and eat lol. ( tho it does happens) thanks for making this!! It’s entirely true. Not all folks can do this job. Not for everyone, A lot of these new people come into trucking industry, and they don’t realize at all how lonely and your never home, your always out, different states different time zones. People just think it’s all about sitting down and driving and bam, I’ll be home. They’re wrong. You gotta add in the Stress of your truck, Traffic, On time delivery, parking for the night and idiots driving on the road. In trucking it’s always, lose one and gain another. It’s not for everyone. That’s why it’s absolutely true, not a lot of folks last around 6months and less, they just don’t understand it completely. It’s not for everyone.
Traffic. That is the one thing that drives me bloody insane. The amount of people that can't drive or seem to have a death wish is ridiculous. I have 60 odd tonne here please don't enter highway doing 30k's under I'd prefer not to test how quickly I can pull this thing up.

Son of a trucker here and I’m pretty sure my dad feels the same and it’s all he really knows how to do especially when he dropped out of high school to do this and he’s still making a decent amount but lately the loads on a load board are just paying too low that it ain’t even worth firing it up. He is also home every week to be part of everyone’s life normally leaving Monday and coming back on a Thursday or Friday still respecting him for what he does after so long and be able to give out loads for a few other truckers leaving him able to get some additional money and be home a little more.

Ahhh yes the world of truck driving, where everyone hates having you around but still wants their stuff, where dispatch treats you like a 5 year old, but yet your responsible for all the lives around you, where you sacrifice all your time to be constantly shorted on your miles and your pay checks, and there’s nothing you can really do about it. Where you try to switch to another company but they’re all the same. Where you wake up and realize you’ve spent years of your life driving and no memories to really show for it.
i just went to school to get a CDL but dropped it. realized its a shit industry thats why they are giving people a free ride to train because nobody wants to do it anymore.
My dad had a trucking business at first it was very successful getting money left and right but one time my family member who was the driver was sleepy and fell off a bridge while driving and landed on a lake he broke a few bones the business was failing after a lot and we had to close it permanently sadly 😭
The driving and solitude is the best part about trucking. Unfortunately the rest of it sucks a lot (insufficient pay (work 60-70 hours every week and earn barely $1300 average), insufficient hometime (work 6-8 weeks, be home for just one!), frustrating office staff, disrespectful and unappreciative customers, other drivers trashing places and making the rest of us look bad, the dangers of the road, the tolls on health, wellness, and fitness, and relationships or the lack of them; constant stress. Horribly evil and predatory companies taking advantage of drivers, etc.). I’m thinking of hanging up my keys in a year, once I can afford to go back to school. I’m not enjoying the job as much as I did before.
Save some money the next year or so, then find a trade to get into- HVAC, electrician, whatever. Start as a grunt and try your best to learn on the job.. or just go to trade school. Plenty of trade jobs out there with plenty of money to be made if you apply yourself. Don’t go to traditional college unless you’re going to FOR SURE follow through with a career that pays well. It has to be something actually worth all the debt. Good luck bromosapien.
@@ce6ej yup that’s the plan. A trade like HVAC or college for a useful degree (honestly thinking accounting). Pay for the training/degree in cash. They only way I see myself continuing to drive is if I get really really lucky and land one of those unicorn cushy jobs that pays like $35-45/hr for 40-50 hours each week. But that’s just not likely where I live
as an over the road truck driver myself, this is exactly what we face today. I do enjoy driving and visiting new places I never been. It's also a way to relief myself from a mental breakdown and took me out of debt. Its not easy especially being alone and missing important dates like birthdays and holidays. Relationships will be tested while being out on the road. I had mine tested back in Feb 2018 where my EX cheated on me cause I wasn't home enough. It was a rocky month even giving up 40% of my salary to help her with college expenses. I went to a downward spiral but recovered. In conclusion, Truck driver is good if u want to explore new areas and have low to no relationships. I'll be tweeting this to Muthatrucka news.
As a former long haul single, introvert trucker, I identify with Wojak's views here. If trucking was only listening to audiobooks and RUclips on the highway, I'd still be doing it now. But the hassles at shippers/receivers and finding legal truck parking after every shift ruined it for me.

That opening convo with his mom actually destroyed me. That's exactly how my mother and I talk about work. The guilt of not being able to visit home because of work is worse than you'd think; it eats away at you.
Same man, my mom always says I miss you and when will you be home, I always say soon but I know when I actually take my hometime I’ll spend it somewhere away with other friends or family. I only see my mom once a year so far since starting this career

My father “was” a truck driver and he was in the business of delivering furniture. I have to say this is pretty accurate this is just one of his average days of work. Now he is moving into the truck business larger and higher, he just wants to drive larger trucks. Me and my family don’t really mind about him going for that long. I love my father, and of course I know some parts of this story aren’t accurate but this is an amazing work of art. I love how your videos put into perspective of other people in certain jobs and how they feel or would feel and act in businesses.
I’ve only been driving OTR 8 months now but wow this was accurate. I’m finishing out my contract and then going local. It’s honestly embarrassing that in this industry, OTR somehow pays less than local jobs. I’m just trying to stick it out so I can move up. I’m tired of making >50k. Especially when you consider all the extra bs that comes with OTR. Also, the whole “get to see the country” thing is mostly bs. Whatever you can see from your windshield is what you get. One thing that does put a smile on my face though is when kids do the arm pump. Just today I drove up 95 through South Carolina and saw some kids on a boat doing it. I didn’t even hesitate! 😂
As someone going through amazon career choice and starting CDL school in january, seeing this video is refreshing to know that no matter what will happen its like any job. Pros and cons. But i love driving around and being single no kids looking for a way to really save some money to do the things i want to do later on is the perfect way for me to go about it.

@@More_Row Yes, American Trucking. Hazing is absolutely horrific - what I meant by incredible. If you're a company driver, you're automatically considered a piece of feces. However the color and texture of you as a piece of feces varies depending on companies you drive for. For example, Knight-Swift (previously Swift) is considered actual excrement. However companies like Yellow are considered golden layered and least smelling. UPS and Fedex are in the middle for having some of the worst winter drivers, but hardest working. If you're an Owner Op, then you're considered a real trucker but still given crap depending on what and how you do. Company driver? Good luck. I drove for many companies in my ten years and always struggled alone. Maybe a few instances of a brotherhood, but that brotherhood is fake and only reserved for "real truckers". After ten years I finally got off the road. Traffic being too much as it was because normal four-wheeler drivers were crazier than before and truckers were getting just as crazy.

@@More_Row It really has. I never went Owner Op, wish I did, but never had the resources to. Don't get me wrong, there is an extremely strong trucking culture still there. But the disrespect between Owner Ops and Companies stems mainly from the deregulation under President Reagan in the 80's. Since that time and the rise of trucking companies, a giant rift has expanded that separates the two. I only a few times got to see real trucking, in winter mainly. When things get hard and tough you'll fall in line, form a convoy, get through the blizzard or follow a fellow driver around an accident on a backroad bypass. But those were few and far between. You learned to appreciate the memories there and it helped you move forward.
I loved trucking, after 8.5 years and getting my million miles I set it aside for a while to be with my kid, but then joined the Army to get more heavy equipment certification and my crane certification.
I did OTR for about a year. It’s exciting at first but it does get kinda old and you’re hardly ever home. It’s tough if you have a family. But now I’m a propane delivery driver and it’s pretty great.
I’ve learned after watching all these low budget stories that life is not gonna come and give you a handout. Yes there are cons to every single job but what’s worse having a job or not having a job? I recommend to find happiness in every single chance you can get. as a person who works 9 to 5, and does overnights just keep your head up king and don’t forget to take care of your health and yourself. Only you can make a difference in your life , it’s up to you Also, don’t get discouraged to quit your job. Just make sure you have a job that already hired you before you quit. Also please for the love of everything good. Spend time with family.

This video reminds me of my Dad he is a truck driver and he converted many of my family members into truck drivers as well. The feeling of this video for me is the same as a long road trip which I really like as well
That alarm gave me PTSD... It still beats local driving though, man. God, this video is just exactly what the life is like. This hurts so much. I'm going back to it in a bit after a 4 month Trade school break. To all the people considering driving, do it. At least for a year, and get out. You'll learn a lot about driving, yourself, your taste in music and podcasts, your patience. I sure missed the open road for those four months.
I don't know how it works in the U.S., here in Italy every truck driver has a card that records driving hours and miles driven. Well, they are often forced to keep a magnet on the part of the truck that records trips so that it is always stationary, and they often have to use the cards of off-duty colleagues to double the mileage done and make more money for the company. The only advantage is that if you have your own company you make a lot of money, but if you are an employed truck driver, you will be exploited like a slave for little money. My uncle has been a truck driver for almost 40 years now, one of the things he told me is "never work as a trucker."
My dad is a trucker, but luckily he only does regional trucking (Florida) so I can see him more often. I’m really thankful that he’s spending so much time just for us to make income. I love him so much.

I've had socially anxiety for most of my life. I'm a loner, but I've never felt lonely when I'm alone. Truck driving, like any other job, has it's pros and cons. But I'd rather be doing this than any other form of work. I did ten years in the military and although I'm proud to have served my country, being there made me realize how much I prefer to work by myself. They talk about robots replacing us truckers and I hope that never happens, especially during my lifetime. I guess I could work somewhere else that doesn't require much socializing, but it wouldn't compare to the joy of seeing a new place every day, listening to podcasts and audiobooks while driving, and having my own moving office. The other day, i saw some guy in a charger floor it to cut off a semi as the semi's lane was ending. It made me so mad, it was so disrespectful to the truck driver. I saw the semi pull into a gas station and i pulled in and told him i hoped that guy didnt bother him too bad and that i was grateful for what he does. He just nodded and said thanks, but i really hope he knows how important he is and how much he deserves respect.
It’s good if you live in your truck and have 0 bills you can save a lot of money, it helped me get out of debt and save a lot but I’m never home to spend any of my hard earned money
Cross country trucks make way more money than regional/local truckers. Especially if they’re a freelance cross country trucker. It is a good job for people that don’t have a family life or are introverted.

This was great. The older guy Wojak met at the gas station was a nice addition to this story. He provided a new perspective on being a truck driver. Also, it’s a shame he was being cheated on by that harlot of a woman. It’s sad but great he got the wake up call he needed about what kind of person she is.
*The Millionaire Next Door* is a very good book. Don't bother with the later books in the series, just read that one. It's pretty dated, but the fundamentals are still there. Live below your means, save, try to set your kids up to have a decent life (unlike the standard American practice of kicking them out of the house by age 18 to sink or swim). My impression is that trucking can be a good way to stack money up and see the country *before* you settle down and get a partner. BTW as a trumpet player, Chad's lips are always hilarious.

My father was a trucker, sometimes OTR, most times a local teamster. One thing he ironed into my head was that nothing would happen without truckers. Everything from the toothpaste, and toilet paper to the food in the fridge was moved by these men. They are the unsung heroes of our societies.

The sense of service is what keeps truckers going. If they thought it was a pointless job, they'd try to do something else. It's a pretty bad career to be honest.
People would find a way to survive. They would have to come together with their neighbors and form their own means of producing goods. If anything, the ability to purchase goods from around the world has devastated peoples sense of community. I’ve talked to many people from South America and they depend on local markets to get their food and other goods. They do just fine. Americans have become spoiled on a wasteful life style.
My husband is an OTR trucker, and I'm his copilot. We listen to books, news, podcasts, and all sorts of things to keep our minds busy when we aren't chatting. Occasionally, I stay home for a month to deal with business at home and see family. We stay on the phone his entire drive shift. Trucking is a hard life, but it is so necessary and important! Thank a trucker for their sacrifice and hard work! ❤

Damn this video hit me. I trucked for a year back during Covid before I quit. During my first months with my trainer I witness him checking his ring camera and saw his wife had been leaving the house every night around 11pm after the kids were asleep and coming back at 1-2am. Sad shit.

During peak season even UPS will hire seasonals with no experience. Pay for newbies can be all over the place but get a year or two experience and you can make 70-100k depending on where you live.
@@CertiwhippsCertain companies pay well, some don’t. Good companies in Cali pay $65-$80k local. Regional about $80-$90, and OTR $100+. OTR is good if you are single with no family responsibilities, horrible if in a relationship, local much better. If you aren’t getting paid in these ranges minimum in states like Cali and New York, your company is undervaluing you.

Most unrealistic part of this: finding parking after dark.
The BIGGEST part they left out, is the ability to listen to podcasts, documentaries, independent journalists, etc. ALL DAY every day. Imagine what you would know if you were getting high level lectures delivered to you, and you had an abundance of time to absorb that knowledge. Or how many languages you could learn, or how many audio books you could get through. Don't underestimate the Truck Driver ~
No one can listen that much of a material. With time it will get tiring and you will just start listening to music. From there you elevate to the next level of brain development

There's sooo much history, that's always fascinating. Tbh I did kinda get bored of science based books tho. But I think it's because I finished all the good ones lol ...really tho, I finished all the psychology books available which even included dogs. At least available in San Jose's library system. This is exactly why I choose to drive a truck. Get away from people lol. That and being outdoors in a way. I'm not stuck inside some grocery store stocking shelfs, or behind a cash register. I'm driving, something I love doing, and exploring and seeing new places which is really fun. I'm not away from home, I'm home everyday after my 12-14 hour shift. It does get lonely at times, driving at night, thinking about many things while the world is asleep. Sunny, snowy, icy, stormy, always there keeping the world moving :)

I drove 500,000 miles over the past 5 years as a OTR driver, the only accurate thing is the hometime, you're only home 3-4 days every 6 weeks. When you're 1 year into your trucking career, you have a pretty solid idea what the sacrifices are. You NEVER forget what time zone you're in, you work literally every imaginable shift hours, and you don't call it, "once I finish this job", it's more of a time frame, like 4-5 weeks on the road, than you earn a max of 3 days, 2 nights home, then back out for another 5-6 weeks. It's really a thankless job, yet it whats makes this country survive, yet all the "4 wheelers"( aka cars) is the WORST past of this job, because you all are complete A$$holes to us truckers while driving, because for some reason, you all treat us like garbage while you drive wrecklessly around us, because you all think that your time is far more valuable than ours
Because that’s what most of the truck drivers are: garbage. People don’t drive that reckless because they’re trying to harm you truck driver, that’s because they’re idiots. But as I said most of the truck drivers are garbage people: lazy, selfish, stupid. You guys have chosen to stir a stirring wheel and watch RUclips, eat garbage food and all you can talk about is “dam, I stock at the fuel island” or “man, I almost got late for delivery!”. That’s it. I understand that without truck drivers all the economy will stop. But you do this job not to help economy in any way but because that’s the only thing you can do to make your small money. There’s no way to say “oh but if everybody will quit trucking, then, THEN…!” Of course everybody will not quit trucking, because those garbage people who only can drive a truck for living will never end 😊

As a truck driver. This is SO FUCKING ACCURATE, minus the part of Having your truck sitting at the fuel island while your going inside and sit down and eat lol. ( tho it does happens) thanks for making this!! It’s entirely true. Not all folks can do this job. Not for everyone, A lot of these new people come into trucking industry, and they don’t realize at all how lonely and your never home, your always out, different states different time zones. People just think it’s all about sitting down and driving and bam, I’ll be home. They’re wrong. You gotta add in the Stress of your truck, Traffic, On time delivery, parking for the night and idiots driving on the road. In trucking it’s always, lose one and gain another. It’s not for everyone. That’s why it’s absolutely true, not a lot of folks last around 6months and less, they just don’t understand it completely. It’s not for everyone.

Son of a trucker here and I’m pretty sure my dad feels the same and it’s all he really knows how to do especially when he dropped out of high school to do this and he’s still making a decent amount but lately the loads on a load board are just paying too low that it ain’t even worth firing it up. He is also home every week to be part of everyone’s life normally leaving Monday and coming back on a Thursday or Friday still respecting him for what he does after so long and be able to give out loads for a few other truckers leaving him able to get some additional money and be home a little more.
At this point Wojak has worked so many jobs. Imagine his resume.

Ahhh yes the world of truck driving, where everyone hates having you around but still wants their stuff, where dispatch treats you like a 5 year old, but yet your responsible for all the lives around you, where you sacrifice all your time to be constantly shorted on your miles and your pay checks, and there’s nothing you can really do about it. Where you try to switch to another company but they’re all the same. Where you wake up and realize you’ve spent years of your life driving and no memories to really show for it.
i just went to school to get a CDL but dropped it. realized its a shit industry thats why they are giving people a free ride to train because nobody wants to do it anymore.
My dad had a trucking business at first it was very successful getting money left and right but one time my family member who was the driver was sleepy and fell off a bridge while driving and landed on a lake he broke a few bones the business was failing after a lot and we had to close it permanently sadly 😭
The driving and solitude is the best part about trucking. Unfortunately the rest of it sucks a lot (insufficient pay (work 60-70 hours every week and earn barely $1300 average), insufficient hometime (work 6-8 weeks, be home for just one!), frustrating office staff, disrespectful and unappreciative customers, other drivers trashing places and making the rest of us look bad, the dangers of the road, the tolls on health, wellness, and fitness, and relationships or the lack of them; constant stress. Horribly evil and predatory companies taking advantage of drivers, etc.). I’m thinking of hanging up my keys in a year, once I can afford to go back to school. I’m not enjoying the job as much as I did before.

I quit otr and now am local see the same shippers every day so they're friendly get home every night. It's still a lot at times
Save some money the next year or so, then find a trade to get into- HVAC, electrician, whatever. Start as a grunt and try your best to learn on the job.. or just go to trade school. Plenty of trade jobs out there with plenty of money to be made if you apply yourself.
Don’t go to traditional college unless you’re going to FOR SURE follow through with a career that pays well. It has to be something actually worth all the debt. Good luck bromosapien.

They only way I see myself continuing to drive is if I get really really lucky and land one of those unicorn cushy jobs that pays like $35-45/hr for 40-50 hours each week. But that’s just not likely where I live
as an over the road truck driver myself, this is exactly what we face today. I do enjoy driving and visiting new places I never been. It's also a way to relief myself from a mental breakdown and took me out of debt. Its not easy especially being alone and missing important dates like birthdays and holidays. Relationships will be tested while being out on the road. I had mine tested back in Feb 2018 where my EX cheated on me cause I wasn't home enough. It was a rocky month even giving up 40% of my salary to help her with college expenses. I went to a downward spiral but recovered. In conclusion, Truck driver is good if u want to explore new areas and have low to no relationships. I'll be tweeting this to Muthatrucka news.

As a former long haul single, introvert trucker, I identify with Wojak's views here. If trucking was only listening to audiobooks and RUclips on the highway, I'd still be doing it now. But the hassles at shippers/receivers and finding legal truck parking after every shift ruined it for me.

My father “was” a truck driver and he was in the business of delivering furniture. I have to say this is pretty accurate this is just one of his average days of work. Now he is moving into the truck business larger and higher, he just wants to drive larger trucks. Me and my family don’t really mind about him going for that long. I love my father, and of course I know some parts of this story aren’t accurate but this is an amazing work of art. I’ve only been driving OTR 8 months now but wow this was accurate. I’m finishing out my contract and then going local. It’s honestly embarrassing that in this industry, OTR somehow pays less than local jobs. I’m just trying to stick it out so I can move up. I’m tired of making >50k. Especially when you consider all the extra bs that comes with OTR. Also, the whole “get to see the country” thing is mostly bs. Whatever you can see from your windshield is what you get. One thing that does put a smile on my face though is when kids do the arm pump. Just today I drove up 95 through South Carolina and saw some kids on a boat doing it. I didn’t even hesitate! 😂

As someone going through amazon career choice and starting CDL school in january, seeing this video is refreshing to know that no matter what will happen its like any job. Pros and cons. But i love driving around and being single no kids looking for a way to really save some money to do the things i want to do later on is the perfect way for me to go about it.
I went through Amazon Career Choice to get my CDL, and I was the best decision I made. It even paid for my college as well too.

@@More_Row Yes, American Trucking. Hazing is absolutely horrific - what I meant by incredible. If you're a company driver, you're automatically considered a piece of feces. However the color and texture of you as a piece of feces varies depending on companies you drive for. For example, Knight-Swift (previously Swift) is considered actual excrement. However companies like Yellow are considered golden layered and least smelling. UPS and Fedex are in the middle for having some of the worst winter drivers, but hardest working. If you're an Owner Op, then you're considered a real trucker but still given crap depending on what and how you do.
Company driver? Good luck. I drove for many companies in my ten years and always struggled alone. Maybe a few instances of a brotherhood, but that brotherhood is fake and only reserved for "real truckers". After ten years I finally got off the road. Traffic being too much as it was because normal four-wheeler drivers were crazier than before and truckers were getting just as crazy.
Damn, thanks for expanding. And humans really suck huh. No community between drivers, only hating on the " not real" truckers and newcomers. What a shame. It's probably only gotten worse in newer times . @@chickenpermission
@@More_Row It really has. I never went Owner Op, wish I did, but never had the resources to. Don't get me wrong, there is an extremely strong trucking culture still there. But the disrespect between Owner Ops and Companies stems mainly from the deregulation under President Reagan in the 80's. Since that time and the rise of trucking companies, a giant rift has expanded that separates the two. I only a few times got to see real trucking, in winter mainly. When things get hard and tough you'll fall in line, form a convoy, get through the blizzard or follow a fellow driver around an accident on a backroad bypass. But those were few and far between. You learned to appreciate the memories there and it helped you move forward.

I loved trucking, after 8.5 years and getting my million miles I set it aside for a while to be with my kid, but then joined the Army to get more heavy equipment certification and my crane certification.
I did OTR for about a year. It’s exciting at first but it does get kinda old and you’re hardly ever home. It’s tough if you have a family. But now I’m a propane delivery driver and it’s pretty great.

Yes there are cons to every single job but what’s worse having a job or not having a job?
I recommend to find happiness in every single chance you can get.
as a person who works 9 to 5, and does overnights just keep your head up king and don’t forget to take care of your health and yourself.

Also, don’t get discouraged to quit your job. Just make sure you have a job that already hired you before you quit.

This video reminds me of my Dad he is a truck driver and he converted many of my family members into truck drivers as well. The feeling of this video for me is the same as a long road trip which I really like as well

To all the people considering driving, do it. At least for a year, and get out. You'll learn a lot about driving, yourself, your taste in music and podcasts, your patience. I sure missed the open road for those four months.

I don't know how it works in the U.S., here in Italy every truck driver has a card that records driving hours and miles driven. Well, they are often forced to keep a magnet on the part of the truck that records trips so that it is always stationary, and they often have to use the cards of off-duty colleagues to double the mileage done and make more money for the company.
The only advantage is that if you have your own company you make a lot of money, but if you are an employed truck driver, you will be exploited like a slave for little money. My uncle has been a truck driver for almost 40 years now, one of the things he told me is "never work as a trucker."
My dad is a trucker, but luckily he only does regional trucking (Florida) so I can see him more often. I’m really thankful that he’s spending so much time just for us to make income. I love him so much.
Love how there are American trucks parked outside the gas station but the signs outside the windows (2:05) are in Swedish (Preem is a Swedish company) and the signs inside are in Russian(?) XD

I've had socially anxiety for most of my life. I'm a loner, but I've never felt lonely when I'm alone. Truck driving, like any other job, has it's pros and cons. But I'd rather be doing this than any other form of work. I did ten years in the military and although I'm proud to have served my country, being there made me realize how much I prefer to work by myself. They talk about robots replacing us truckers and I hope that never happens, especially during my lifetime. I guess I could work somewhere else that doesn't require much socializing, but it wouldn't compare to the joy of seeing a new place every day, listening to podcasts and audiobooks while driving, and having my own moving office. Anybody can be a trucker, but it's not for everybody.

The other day, i saw some guy in a charger floor it to cut off a semi as the semi's lane was ending. It made me so mad, it was so disrespectful to the truck driver. I saw the semi pull into a gas station and i pulled in and told him i hoped that guy didnt bother him too bad and that i was grateful for what he does. He just nodded and said thanks, but i really hope he knows how important he is and how much he deserves respect.
It happens so often most of us are numb to it.

Cross country trucks make way more money than regional/local truckers. Especially if they’re a freelance cross country trucker. It is a good job for people that don’t have a family life or are introverted.

This was great. The older guy Wojak met at the gas station was a nice addition to this story. He provided a new perspective on being a truck driver. Also, it’s a shame he was being cheated on by that harlot of a woman. It’s sad but great he got the wake up call he needed about what kind of person she is.
*The Millionaire Next Door* is a very good book. Don't bother with the later books in the series, just read that one. It's pretty dated, but the fundamentals are still there. Live below your means, save, try to set your kids up to have a decent life (unlike the standard American practice of kicking them out of the house by age 18 to sink or swim). My impression is that trucking can be a good way to stack money up and see the country *before* you settle down and get a partner. BTW as a trumpet player, Chad's lips are always hilarious.
