Going into the game the Giants were 7-13 and 5 games out of 1st place. They ended the season with a 98-59 record, in first place on Bobby Thomson's legendary home run. The Reds were aboved .500 as late as July 18th (42-40) but unfortunately they slipped to 68-86 by the end of the season.
