This is all true. What I was trying to teach is the basics of diaphragm control, which has to be mastered before the other components of calling can be used. The back pressure is made by the diaphragm and the tongue location controls it.
omg dude! first i started using a faulk standard duck call, and that call i super easy to use, now i moved on to a Buck Gardner Mallard Magic call and i just couldn't get it going, until now THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Awesome! This inspired me to want to make my own how to calling vid. What a lot of people don't explain. It is so simple when you get it. Pure, pressurized air. My sound you will hear, save my channel, and look forward to how to call ducks, hunting and fishing vids, etc. I have some guitar playing and alice in chains vids on there now and one funny video of us making a bomb lol. Enjoy, but thanks to this guy again! Great job.
Forward pressure, back pressure and mouth cavity size (tounge location) is what's going on with operating a waterfowl call. Grunting into a call will do some sounds but will give you a sore throat for sure.
@TangeClown I don't know about that. You have your intercostals and your diaphragm that control your lungs. It's not possible to breathe without your diaphragm. But if there is some crazy way I don't know about let me know, I'm always down to learn more. But as far as I know you can't breathe without it.
there are easier, and what youll find is that you want a couple of calls on your neck because rarely will you find a call that is good for all ranges and types. i would suggest a Echo Trash Talker. i have one and its my main call now. only $17 or so but worth it. and if your budget is bigger you can spend more for a Echo Open Water or XLT. im guessing that triple threat cost around the same.
the classic commander is only good for close to mid range calls. i just got one and i do like it, but you need some more calls in your lanyard to round out your abilities. for most mid to long range calling i use my Echo Trash Talker. for long (and extremely long) calls and hails i use a vortex. also i may have fucked up that commander by pushing it back into the barrel too far on accident..
I wish to hell someone would have explained it this way to me 25 years ago,I did figure out out on my own eventually but I went through lots of duck calls and videos witch didn't do me much good.I have some friends that never could quite get it but I think explaining it this way may be the ticket. Thanks for a great video and tip on operating a duck call.
it takes time. we've all scared away some ducks at one time or another. make sure you get a call you like, practice the entire summer before season starts, keep watching videos, and find really good callers to help you out face to face. i know the president of the MN Duck & Goose Callers Association, hes a world class champion caller and a great guy. he gave me my first 2 calls and lanyard for free and a lot of tips on how to call. just find people that can help you and practice :)
Great instruction, thanks, sorry to mention this, but the diaphragm is an inspiratory muscle, not an expiratory muscle. The respiratory muscles used to expire are a number of different ones, but primarily the abdominals, again thanks for the instruction.
I thought my wistle was shit, after this video explaining it i wont run back to the store complaining. Norway is expensive though, i had to pay 30 dollars for it.and 40 dollars for CH-44 Goose call. Its a robbery
not true. if you know how to control it you can disable it even when breathing. being a trumpet player ive just about mastered how to use my diaphragm, which also made learning to call a lot easier. when i explain diaphragm to people i tell them it feels like you are using your abs to make a more powerful exhale. usually helps them learn
You got me. I had someone else blowing in the back ground using Phil's way.. BTW, this is Phil's way. I learned from Phil. Used to hunt with him. My first call was a Commander.
Everybody trying to learn how to call, listen exactly to what this guy has to say in this video. He is spot on

This is easier when you already do death metal vocals because you know diaphragm control. I only have the cheap green plastic camo duck dynasty call.
My advice would to get the original duck commander call it's expensive but it works
Certainly helpful !! Best video I've came across for learning

Thanks. About to start and this is the best info I have heard.

S Soper I blow everyday with grunting and my throat is sore

I prefer the classic commander for beginners. When I first started blowing a duck call it was easy to hit the notes
That's the call I started out on. Great call. I blow an Echo XLT most of the time now.
Check out two other videos that have on duck calling to hear what a calling sequence with the Trutone sounds like.
What is a good call to use. I have a duck commander triple threat Is that good or is there easier calls

Nice calling

Looks like footage from my DCR-SX45 handycam
JASE ROBERTSON IS THE GREATEST DUCK CALLER.

Diaphragm isn't only used when you cough, it's used every time you breathe in and out. Good video though.
Thx for the helpful vid!
Darn right except where I live there are very few ducks. It is not like duck commander or the fields of Alberta oh well it is still fun :))))))
Great !!
I thought my wistle was shit, after this video explaining it i wont run back to the store complaining. Norway is expensive though, i had to pay 30 dollars for it.and 40 dollars for CH-44 Goose call. Its a robbery
