R.I.P to the one and only Mr. DJ Larry Levan. Thanks for the many years of fun at the paradise garage where I met the best people who appreciated the wonderful sound of music. The dance floor was on 🔥 🔥 Luv you forever
I’m 62 now. I partied at the garage 1980 thru 1983. The best time I had and no alcohol needed to have fun. Long ass lines to get in but I always found someone to pay my entrance and get me in! With my green parachute pants. Those were the days! House music is not the same! That shit now is bump bump bump. Not for me. Thank you for the memories love. Oh yeah I was there for Grace Jones night. I arrived when opened and left when closed to go to Washington square park and continue the party! 😜😜😜
I was there that night too , she came on around 3-3:30am or maybe a little later, I was so busy dancing I didn’t give a damn when she came on. Was a member from 1980-1985.
He was magical. ...Like he could FEEL just what you needed to hear on a given night. People who weren't there will never know how SPIRITUAL Paradise Garage was. Larry could make you dance and sweat out your pain and trouble and when you left the club in the sunshine, you felt BRAND NEW.

Its so surreal. I am a dj too and i am playing at least 3 songs all the time that Larry played in this set too! I didn’t even know that these tracks are that old and from 1990, since most of them had recent re-releases. Talk about timeless music!
dark and erratic. it was like that at the Garage sometimes as well. I was there. I was part of the security team during the early eighties. Worked with Noel, the Marlboro Man, and Joey Llanos who is now a DJ in his own right. Joey played at the Larry Levan Way street tribute block party in 2014 on youtube. Joey learned from Larry. Larry would make tapes before the club opened, then play then during his down time when the club was open. LOL. define "dark and erratic". lol. he could be inspired when he wanted to be. But unfortunately, his demons were similar to my own, and only with the help of God Almighty, did he carry me over that abyss and back on his journey in my life. I know what you mean, when I was no longer in NYC.
I like some of that darker stuff. Distant planet is a fav for more than 20 years now. He was more erratic yes but i still like what he does here. To be fair i like a lot of his later mixes end of 80's beginning of the 90's. He still had a great ear for picking out parts of certain records.

Those were the days circa 78' I had a wrench..you figure! And those who really are in the know when there was sawdust on the hardwood flooring, Larry used to play this indie song Workin Slavin by Midnight Rhythm...
