I just hope that the mistakes made in the 1960's won't be repeated here, when railways were ripped up and lost forever. There is a prime example in Dublin where the Dundrum line was ripped up but has now been reinstated as the Luas line and has been expanded to give an excellent commuter service. This is promoting loads of development along the route. With a little imagination there's no reason the same can't happen on this line. It is an invaluable infrastructure that can and should encourage development.

It feels like no one realises how easy it is to reopen this railway line for revenue service, through both freight and passenger services. There are so many communities left without a decent transport service along the line. The greenway would be a terrible solution that the NTA will regret in the future. The government have all these plans regarding electric vehicle grants and electric buses, but there is not a more efficient and eco-friendly mode of transport than the train, so the government should recognise how many cars would be taken off the road if this line received investment.

i totally agree. i am actually originally from one of the communities that lost connection, and thus a go back there every year. It would be so much better to be able to sail and rail back to my home village rather than using the road. I think the closure was a big step in the wrong way, especially now with the increase of people wanting to travel outside of thier village. I think when they closed it they mentioned having an advanced bus network, but low and behold theres no buses to be seen around the area. They definately need to re open this line, or at least actually provide the buses they said they would provide.
Thank you for coming to my TED Talk lmao

... in the meantime all people in these areas are totally abandoned to themselves... with no absolute services and no alternative transports, no doctors, no shops, nothing... this is not a green choice is very high fingerprint oif everyone has always to travel for hours by road private transports to get any basic function...
