I told you that you’d love it. Thanks for picking my suggestion. I’m right with you on Bluegrass changing my musical view. The beauty is that there’s no place to hide as musicians. It’s either great or it tanks and there’s no in-between. I’ve been honoured to see these guys with Union Station fronting Alison maybe six times and each gig has been an eargasm. She could sing the phone book and I’d buy a ticket! Cheers from this frostbitten Canadian 🇨🇦🎶❤️
Awesome track. Love the Transatlantic Sessions. The CDs are still available on Amazon if anyone is looking for this tune. There’s 6 total CDs. Worth every penny
I have known this video for 10 years. It basically made me play bluegrass and celtic music. I wish I could watch this for the first time again, like you just did!
I watched an interview with Dan about when he told his wife that he was gonna be doing a voice over in a movie with George Clooney in it. She asked what a voice over is and he told her “You’ll see George Clooney on the screen singing but it’ll be my voice.” And she replied with “Thats all Ive ever dreamed of.” Lmao, love OBWAT
Your sermon at the end gave me shivers. Bluegrass and what it teaches is, indeed, a Righteous Path. Those of us fortunate enough to have walked it know Truth and Beauty. Thank you Michael.
Hot dayum! Dan is the man, and this song is one of those haunting tunes that just stick to you like you lived it. Beautiful track and break down Michael!
LOVE the transatlantic sessions. Great video. Also, loved what you said at the end. That's why Doc Watson is my favorite guitarist of all time. He wasn't flashy, but the man played music how it is supposed to be played.
Absolutely awesome stuff Michael. Not sure if you remember but I recommended this song a WHILE back on a Tuesday night live back towards the beginning. Been waiting on this video ever since. Dan’s pitch is crazy spot on and he’s a very underrated bluegrass guitarist. This song makes me shiver every time. And talk about a story. Well done!!
Bought tickets to a acoustic version of Dan Tyminski of all places in a very small coffee shop in Palmer Alaska! What a great evening! The man is earth shattering on the guitar
I love the AKUS live album version of this. The intro track that leads up to the song is just a mastery in steel guitar. Along with AK singing the backing on the woman’s scorn, it’s just magic. Plus, Ron block, I mean do I need to say more about him?
Michael, you cover all the good ones. These Transatlantic Sessions were absolute gold. While there I found Paul Brady, Darrell Scott, Tim O’Brien, Amos Lee, and the most deeply buried gold, the Bard of Ireland, Declan O’Rourke.
Thanks Michael! I have seen Alison Krauss and Union station 5 or 6 times and they are perfection at every turn. I love listening to my fellow Ohioan, Jerry Douglas on the Dobro. What a great arrangement for this tune!
I love this analysis of the song, spot on IMO. I grew up a few towns away from Dan Tyminski, I use to hang out in crown point NY. I use to see Dan at the gas station in the store that sort of thing, seemed like a nice guy, friendly. Few people knew he was a pretty accomplished musician, and even fewer knew Dan was as talented as he is!!! Most of those northern towns had a fife and drum corps, that's probably why he loves that jam!
Great stuff as always. Found one you may like, Tyler Childers W/ Billy Strings at the Ryman “Trudy” first video I’ve seen where Billy is featured on a Tele…..
Can’t go wrong with AKUS or any individual member. I first heard him solo on “Man Of Constant Sorrow” from “O Brother,Where Art Thou? and have been a fan since
You haven't covered much japanese music, there's this album Andalusian Breeze by Masaru Imada with some blazing guitar work by Kazumi Watanabe, particularly on tracks 1 and 4. Some excellent jazz fusion with that wonderful exotic sound from the andalusian cadence. Please check it out!!
The first time I saw this video I was blown away. The second time I saw this video, my wife said something to the effect of "wow, what a solo by Vladmir Flutin" and I literally spit out my drink. Haven't laughed that hard since. Inevitably someone commented the same thing on the video so she can't take credit for coming up with it but dang it was funny. Great reaction video, as suspected :)
I have hoped for years that you would do this one. I learned it at an early age as my grandpa played nothing but bluegrass and gospel. He plays banjo, and mandolin and i rolled right into it on a flattop. Doesnt get much better. Every member of this band is an A1 Musician!
This is one of my favourite Transatlantic Sessions seasons, so many great moments on the whole thing! Introduced me to the likes of Allison Moorer, Jerry Douglas and Dan just to mention a few
Just wanted to say that I love your vids my friend. You are a real inspiration for your passion of music. I want to thank you for turning me to so many artists I never knew. I have lost interest in guitar a while ago because I got sick but every time I watch another one of your vids I seem to get a boost in confidence to give it another go. I know I'm not a paying member but I have a recommendation of a artist I never saw on this channel which is Joe Pass. One of my favorites is a performance of Ain't Misbehavin on the Oscar Peterson and Friends show from the BBC. You seem to me you have a lot on your plate but if you get a chance, I don't think you will be disappointed. Keep up the great job brother and keep that love going. Cheers ✌
Some of the most talented Musicians ever! Jerry Douglass on the Dobro? Are you kidding me? Best ever, hands down! I remember when I asked my guitar teacher what is the most challenging music to play. He said bluegrass. And he didn't stutter! Love the flute in this version! Gives it an Irish Folk Music vibe! Really nice!
The accompanying band are the chieftains. You can see Dan and Jerry smiling during the song because they are blown away at how great the chieftains are....adding completely different instruments and a completely different vibe to the song. It's fantastic !
Man! I had forgotten about how good this tune is! Chills every time i listen to it. Blue Grass is so awesome, there is a reason that there is a lot of overlap in bluegrass and rock and roll.
I like Molly Tuttle & her band - bluegrass based, but she also has recorded punk songs (Olympia WA), and a version of Jefferson Airplane's White Rabbit - bluegrass psychedelia! And have you heard Hayseed Dixie? Justin Hayward of The Moody Blues has recorded with a bluegrass band...
THIS IS SUCH A GREAT SONG FOR YOUR STORY OF THIS SONG YOU ARE SO INTUNE WITH SONGS BUT WITH A SONG LIKE THIS YOU COULD WRITE A BOOK ABOUT IT YOU CAN PICK UP BITS AND PEACES THAT THERE ARE TIMES I SEE PICTURES IN MY HEAD LIKE IN THIS SONG I GET A PICTURE OF A GUY IN BIBS LEAND UP ON A BARN POST PLAYING HIS GUITAR
If you like this, you have to do some Steeldrivers!! It’s a bluegrass band with Chris Stapleton on vocals! Blue Side of the Mountain is a good starting point.
It's a great song... love the vibe... but having lived in the upper midwest most of my life I can tell you that frost doesn't ruin the corn crop. In fact in Minnesota... many farmers wait until well into November to harvest, well after the first frost. Again... killer dobro.. love the song... but I always think about this when I hear it.
True story: I played in a weekly poker game with Dan. The other players just thought he was the guy that liked flush draws. I'm all, "you guys, we're in the presence of a *legend*." And Jerry. He plays notes that nobody - nobody - else would think to play, but when he plays them, it's as if the universe opened up and decreed the note, and it was Correct. Thank you for featuring two of my heroes.
Check out "This Town Needs Guns" - "Whatever, Whenever" or "Havoc In The Forum". There are great live version on youtube. Would love to hear your comments on them.
Hey Michael have you checked out Guy Clarke and Verlin Thompson Doing a song together called the guitar, dude you probably heard it But if not check it out dude it's a great song, story line and just all out pickin

If you want more Jerry Douglas, check out him playing Tribute to Peadar O’Donnell/Monkey Let the Hogs Out. It’s part of Alison Krauss’s live album with Union Station. Phenomenal!
I’ve seen him play those songs in front of me and I still can’t believe I was there. I watched quietly and applauded between songs and as I was leaving the guy beside me said “I’ll go to a concert with you anytime! Wish the rest of the audience had been that respectful.”
Ohhh man! You already got a like from me and your video hasn't even started yet! Dan Tyminski? Check. Boy Who Wouldn't Hoe Corn? Check. The Transatlatic Session version???? CHECK CHECK CHECK. Great video as always.
If you love bluegrass, you should check out Bela Fleck’s new album, My Bluegrass Heart. This track, for instance, is about the most beautiful thing you’ll ever here: ruclips.net/video/WWyX-SixOSk/видео.html
Micheal I love your channel and love your infectious enthusiasm… but this was not bluegrass and it didn’t begin or come from bluegrass. It’s folk.. whether American, Irish, Scottish or even English with a little European influence. But I would agree it’s absolutely wonderful! Big love ❤️

Good call Sean! Thanks.
AKUS - one of the tightest bands in any genre. I am fortunate to have seen them in Calgary, Edmonton, Courtenay, Vancouver and Spokane.
@@garywhitt98 my pleasure.

Awesome track. Love the Transatlantic Sessions. The CDs are still available on Amazon if anyone is looking for this tune. There’s 6 total CDs. Worth every penny
Dan and Jerry together are pure magic. What would O Brother Where Art Thou be without their music?
I have known this video for 10 years. It basically made me play bluegrass and celtic music. I wish I could watch this for the first time again, like you just did!

Always liked Dan Tymninski. That whole Union station band was amazing. Seen him play this song with his own band years ago.
Jerry Douglas is a BEAST!
Nobody asked but, in case you’re curious - the fiddle tune in the middle is called Julia Delaney. It’s a mainstay at many Irish sessions!
You know Michael loves the track when he turns his volume up!
I love the Irish influence in this version, with a typical pub session vibe…
Perfect analysis, the song really is something else. Great musicians

I love this song but had never heard this version. So incredible!
I miss Union Station with Alison. Wish they would make another album but glad you highlighted Dan and Uncle Jerry.
YESYESYESYES "TABARNAK!!" that version is perfection , nothing else..
Oh man, that's a good one...must have been some time ago, the boys are looking quite young. Loved the fiddle/flute soli at the end.
I’m also a huge fan of Dan Tyminski! 👏🏼👏🏼
Man, it's so obvious that you're a great dude. Appreciate you and your channel. Keep it up, brother.
I love the AKUS live album version of this. The intro track that leads up to the song is just a mastery in steel guitar. Along with AK singing the backing on the woman’s scorn, it’s just magic. Plus, Ron block, I mean do I need to say more about him?

Thanks Michael! I have seen Alison Krauss and Union station 5 or 6 times and they are perfection at every turn. I love listening to my fellow Ohioan, Jerry Douglas on the Dobro. What a great arrangement for this tune!
Turned this into a fiddle tune is brilliant. We saw Allison in Gettysburg Bluegrass festival when she was 16 and have been in awe!
So weird, I was listening to Dan Tyminski earlier today and here you posted a video. Great minds think alike
Jerry Douglas and Dan Tyminski - always just magic.
Love this. Killer song, killer performance
Every time you mentioned about the melody during the solo, I try and pay attention; I’ve always wanted to learn that.
Great content!! 🤙🏼
I've been watching the "Trans Atlantic Sessions " since the 90's . The first three introduced me to so many people and are still my favorites .
What a great pick, great song, and great musicians!!! Awesome reaction video!

"Next tune" as if to say "Well, it doesn't get any better than that" and you know, I couldn't agree more!

Best song on youtube surely
i started in bluegrass, and have never forgot my roots
