I started watching the year before Saban got there. I was 12. We SUCKED. We still somewhat sucked Sabans first year. We thought we'd be better than that season in 08 but none of us thought we'd go from 7-6 to 12-2 and nearly beating Florida in the SEC championship that season. I remember that Georgia game vividly and how shocking it was for both fanbases to see how big of a jump Alabama had actually made from year 1 to year 2.

@@robertd9850I get what you're saying, but don't underestimate what Jamarcus Shepherd, behind an offensive-minded head coach, can do leading these wide receivers and tight ends...especially if the offensive line lives up to its potential.
And especially if the run game, with Jalen, keeps the defense honest enough to sneak in some big plays down the field.
Any other season, I would've said yeah, "Pleasantly surprise, at best". But this year will be drastically different, especially offensively...or at least it should be. I am thinking, Washington Huskies on steroids, with a significantly better defense. I'll take that.
@@LoveAllWomen Washington Huskies on steroids is a very good way to put it and I expect the players to be better coached than last year. WA was mostly 3 stars with a few 4 stars thrown in but made it to the playoffs. The only explanation for that is coaching. That said, I cringe when I hear people say something in sports will "shock the world" as though people in Zimbabwe or Brazil or Thailand were glued to their TV's watching Bama games. Prolly not.

The only question for Bama is the secondary and that is only because of experience not talent. 10-2 but 11-1 or even 12-0 wouldn't surprise me. This roster is loaded from top to bottom. Saban left behind a mansion with a 5 car garage with only a couple Ferraris missing for DeBoer to move in to. 9-3 is the absolute floor 12-0 is the ceiling 10-2 seems fair.

Vols fan here. I think the Third Saturday in October will be more competitive, but I think Bama still does Bama things. 10-2, with a loss to Georgia and either a loss to UT, Oklahoma, or Auburn. The Tide aren’t going away any time soon, as much as I wish they would.

Bama fan here and I actually agree with this take. Think we will lose 2 games, probably a combination of Georgia, Tennessee, or Oklahoma. We are not losing to Auburn in BDS

If you ever have time, look back through the older games. Obviously the footage quality is nothing like we enjoy today, but some of those games were just epic ! Some felt like it was all defensive. I’m sure you didn’t care for the 17 games in a row that we won, but I remember a stretch of 10 in a row that y’all had if I remember correctly. Regardless, it appears that y’all have the right person for the job now and great talent at QB so there should be plenty of competition for us fans to enjoy ! Best of luck to y’all as well…

BTW - This is the best coaching staff from top to bottom Bama has had since Saban's early staffs...
Since 2020*....his best staffs were in the 20teens. That 2015 staff for example is probably the best in history. Sark saved us in 2020 from Pete Golding's failures but after he left you are 100% correct. The staff never recovered

For me the season comes down to the Georgia game. How we play in that game will determine a lot for how the rest of the season goes. RTR
I agree with you. However, the Georgia game is early in the season. I think a loss here wouldn't be that bad, it actually may help, but I think it'll tell us more than the previous games simply because of Georgia's talent. Our secondary is what is questionable.

I'll take 10-2 and a top 3 recruiting class. I do believe that stretch mentioned with LSU and OU gets us for sure, but a 10-2 Bama team makes the playoffs, and that's all that matters.
The way I see it him to beat #1 Georgia says it all...I don't care what anybody says! Georgia had a damn good team & we beat the best #1 in the country with our Alabama QB. Last year at the start of the season indeed we was terrible then Jalen started to calm down & got focused. I was impressed of what he started doing. The shocking throw in the endzone at Auburn said it all to me...
It’s not always about the talent you have on your roster, it’s about how effectively you’re able to use that talent. I think Alabama has plenty of talent on their roster but the biggest question is how well will this team gel? What will the team chemistry look like? How well will they adapt to the new systems put in place? Will they stay healthy enough throughout the season to have the necessary depth at key positions? Those are questions we just won’t know the answer to until we’ve seen them play a few games.
I think the 10-2 prediction is accurate however, Deboer has won with 3 and 4 star players, now he has 4 and 5 star players. He may be better than anyone, including Saban, at getting the most out of players. Saban didn't have to because he always had the best players. Plus, fixing that snapping problem alone will make a huge difference.

I'm.a hardcore BAMA fan, last year in the preseason all the talk was how the O-line was the strength of the team and it was horrible until the last few games. I 🙏 this years O-line is our strength! Roll Tide 🐘!

I’m a Bama fan, and not one that was born in the 2009. I’m an 80s baby and I’ve seen really good and really bad. Their is excitement around the program right now. Preparation might not be what it used to be, but in game coaching should be a lot more aggressive.

I believe we already saw a “Saban drop-off.” Bama’s been undisciplined for years, defense has been mediocre, team never played up to their potential in 2022 and wasn’t even ready for the start of the season in 2023. 2023 coaching staff was the worst since 2007 and Bama is currently on the longest national championship drought since Saban got there.
However the recruiting never dropped off and DeBoer managed to keep a lot of them and seems to be recruiting better than anyone thought he would. A drop off this year would be from the coaching transition learning curve

They have underperformed the last 2 years and are VERY lucky to have records as good as they were. The last 2 years, Alabama was NOT as good as their record. Very astute of you to feel the same.

No doubt! I don’t think it falls all on Coach Saban. I think it had to do, mostly, with the turnover on coaching assistants.
Yessir, thanks for the objective analysis. Saban had to pull back some to avoid losing coaches and the lack of team discipline with complacency started in 2019. This whole coaching staff is the best since 2018....a sneaky 11-1 is my prediction.

This offense will be just really good or unstoppable depending on one factor..... Unstoppable if - Milroe runs with the ball when he needs to run.... see the LSU game for a reference.... or just really Good if he is gonna try to "prove" that he can be a pocket passer and ends up taking sacks or forcing balls into coverage. Formula = Quick primary, then secondary reads, then dump to RB or run - that's it... Do not stay in the pocket for 6 seconds... YOU RUN A 4.4 dude!! Sacks should be rare!!! He needs to accept his skillset and use it!!!
You’d see Bama haters across the nation rejoicing if Bama went 7-5 this season. As a lifelong Alabama fan who’s been around long enough to see Alabama throughout its lows and its highs I’ll say this year is one of the biggest unknowns as far as predicting what Alabamas eventual Win / loss record will be. There’s just been such a drastic change that it’s hard to see Alabama not at least go through some kind of transitional period here. I’d personally be more than happy if they were able to make the 12 team playoff in Deboers first season. Even if they didn’t make it to the final 4 I’d be happy. But with that said I still have a hard time seeing them lose more than 3 to 4 games in the regular season. I think Georgia will be a loss, but then again Alabama seems to have their number every year regardless of their situation. Like I said, it’s going to be an interesting season. Roll Tide!!!

I hate to say it, but Bama will have a better coaching staff this year, then they had last 5 years. Bama really had had a coaching problem both offense and defense. Penalties, blocking, and bad snaps are all fundamental football. Problems a division 1 school at that level should not have ( not all 3 at least). I honestly think people are going to be suprised, Bama will be harder to beat with wide open offense.
High level secondary play takes a minute to develop. That's the issue.....

I don't know what our final record will be at season's end, I don't think anyone does, but I don't think it will be to shabby by any means! Kalen DeBoer has won everywhere he has been, and he has definitely never had a team as talented as he will have here at Alabama. I'm not saying he will be Nick Saban because we all know there is only one Nick, but I don't believe for a minute that the wheels are just gonna fall off and the engine is gonna blow up and we are gonna be like we was in the Mike Shula days LOL! Saban's first Alabama team finished 7-6 in 2007. Overall, the teams on this year's schedule and this Alabama edition are better than 2007. The talent level, mindset, and facilities are much better now than when Saban arrived. DeBoer is a proven coach. But, with all that said, I believe that after year three... DeBoer's record could be at the same point or a little less. When Saban came to Alabama, the SEC was not as strong as it is now. He forced the Conference to become better. I'm not saying that the SEC was weak... but it wasn't the monster it is now.
I am an Alabama fan! I have been one since the early 60's. But I am realistic. We've seen the greatest Coach in history. DeBoer is a great coach in his own right. But if Bama fans think that what we had, during Saban's reign, will continue - not missing a beat...WRONG! I believe there are only a handful of Coaches, right now, that could match Saban's Dynasty. Three of them were coaches under Saban. Kirby has the best chance currently. But he has to prove he can maintain the year-in and year-out "DRIVE" and consistency. That was Saban's secret! His foot STAYED on the gas! It will be a fun year. But please, fellow Bama fans, be realistic! There will be some growing pains! I think 3 losses are possible... with the schedule, a new coach, a new system, and a much better Conference... ahead of this 2024-25 Bama edition.
We will all know whats up after the the Georgia vs. ALABAMA game. We will probably see another rematch during the SEC game. Then you have a 12 team playoff. Its gonna take a lot to keep Bama from the playoffs.

@RT22-pb2pp what is the line between feelings and analytical thoughts? There is an argument to be made that +90% of sports talk is based on feelings, especially in the (whisper* off season). Either way, im watching to hear how they feel about stuff, including coaches rankings. Feelings are informed by analytical thought and vice versa.
9+ sounds like a good prediction. I mean I think it depends on Milroe. Penix threw almost 600 passes last year, while Milroe almost threw for 300. I’m not saying Milroe isn’t capable, because he showed that he is last season, but idk if he can be that consistent to be throwing for that amount of passes.
If milroe got better than I’d expect 11 or 12 wins.

@@JAaronMattox Bull. I lived in Alabama for decades and Michigan for years. Never acclimated to the hot or the cold. It is a myth although these players are all young and superbly conditioned so they probably don't notice one way or the other.

I was born and raised in Bama, it's hot even in winter sometimes. I moved to Maine, and I got back to Bama asap, lol. But the comment is correct for transfers and new players in Oklahoma who are not used to cold weather.

I'm going to guess 8-4. Coaching transitions are usually brutal unless the incoming coach was at the program for awhile.
It's going to take time for Bama to adjust. They will be very inconsistent this year. Especially that 3 game stretch with Tennessee, Mizzou, and LSU. On top of that playing LSU. I think they'll beat 1/4 teams mentioned, but will slip up elsewhere.
12-0 is a real possibility, 10-2 seems to be an average bet..of you're off by only one it's 9-3 or 11-1..the offense WILL score points..if the defense can hold teams to 20 or less points they will will Every game..if a team scores 25 to 30 they have a chance to beat Bama..Defense just has to be good not great
This. I think the offense will be a top 10 lock but may even be top 5. If the defense can be a top 20 unit then 10-2 or 11-1 is a real possibility.
Im excited to see what Deboer can do. Bama with its coaching staff the past few years was imo bad. This will be a fun year and what I have to keep reminding myself is, divisions are gone and a loss no longer ends your season

No. LSU is overrated like last year. They will not beat Bama. UT could, or they could suck again. GA will be a knife fight in a phone booth in our terf. We shall see. OK before the Iron Bowl is what concerns me.

I said that Alabama would most likely go 9-3 and barely miss the CCP. The Wisconsin game is going to be tough at the beginning of the season. I expect Tennessee to be much improved, and don't count out Missouri being able to beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa. I anticipate Alabama will lose to Georgia and LSU on the road. Tennessee is gonna be tough in Knoxville. Auburn can beat Alabama in the Iron Bowl if the Tide have nothing more to play for than the Citrus Bowl. I'd say losses to Georgia & LSU, probably Tennessee and a potential 4th to Missouri or Oklahoma on road. The road games will trip Alabama up this year. Even IF Alabama sneaks into playoff, they will NOT be able to beat the other SEC teams named Texas., and yes Ole Miss can beat Alabama. It helps when you have Pete Goulding as DC and the best defensive roster other than Georgia.

You can’t compare past teams to present teams because of the transfer portal. The transfer portal allows coaches to acquire experienced talent. That wasn’t a thing in the past a coach had whatever the previous coach left and that’s it. lol RTR

How does Alabama have one of best coaches and he has won nothing? Again, Saban should have turned the team over to his former players and coaches. Without that culture you lose the “Saban Way.” Maybe that was the objective.
I think they lose to Georgia and Tennessee. I think they handle Auburn pretty easily. The weird game is going to be Oklahoma in Norman. It’s just a weird place to play. So I have them 10-2 but wouldn’t be shocked if they go 9-3.

Only 2 of those teams have a real shot of beating bama and one 1⃣ favored the other isn't. Georgia is the only team with odds to beat bama and its by 3 points

I have been an Alabama fan going all the way back to Bear Bryant and I’m telling you right now with Jaylen Milroe as quarterback Alabama will not play for a championship and Jalen is not going to win a Heisman Trophy. He will make the same mistakes he has always made. I think this will be a four loss season
Of course Milroe has already proven he can lead the team to the CFP, and this team COULD outperform last season’s team.

6-6. They're recruiting okay but lack the coaches to get the job done. Feeding players cheap fat and sugar after a practice shows where conditioning rates with DeBoer. He still thinks he's in the left coast league where touchy feely rules. Still no qb unfortunately but everybody is afraid to s ay it out loud because Milroe is popular for some reason. On the upside, locals can go to Birmingham to watch the bowl game against somebody like Jack St. or Alabama Southern.
I’m thinking based on everything we know to this point and simply based on pure talent that the floor is 8-4 or 9-3, and the ceiling is 11-1 or 12-0. I’m betting 10-2 is pretty realistic. Been a Tide fan since the 70s. I don’t think we’ll start 2-2, but IF you prove to be prophetic and we do, then it will simply be a disappointment before moving focus to the next game. Definitely nothing to do with consideration of my life and I suspect it would be similar for another Tide fan. Feel free to hate on though, we feed on it !
