If Expedition Everest was Full Scale, How Big Would The Animal Kingdom Be?

- A few weeks back a patron, John-Paul, posed a question: If Expedition Everest was scaled up so that it matched the actual height of Mount Everest, how big would the rest of the Animal Kingdom be if it was scaled up along with it? Let's find out!

As a model builder, it's wild to think Expedition Everest is almost perfectly the right scale for 1/144 scale models.
It would be hilarious if Disney added a Gunpla store in Asia to go with Expedition Everest.
Rob's new motto: "If it's in my head, you have to suffer." Just kidding... love all these videos :D
Finally, someone answering the REAL questions!
The Forbidden Mountain is 20,154 feet tall according to the "Vista of the Himalayas" plaque in Asia in Animal Kingdom. Which means the ride is actually at 1/101 scale
Thank you for being one of the select few American RUclipsrs who realize this platform is worldwide and included metric units throughout. Without them this video would’ve been useless to most of us non US residents. Thank you!
A few useful conversions that can be used either way. They aren't exact, but "close enough" to give you a good idea. I happen to use them to convert metric measurements to US, but they work either way.
1 yard = 1 meter
1 foot = 1/3rd meter
1 mile = 1.6 km
cooking measurements:
1 (US) cup = 250 ml
1 quart = 1 liter
1 gallon = 4 liters
1 pound = 450g (500g is usually close enough)
1 kg = 2.2 pounds
Now I'm not saying people shouldn't give SI measurements when convenient or appropriate, but if they don't and you memorize those few conversions you can translate a lot of measurements in your head.
@@happily_blue I'm talking in general in his videos. Your very specific example aside, its when he gives Celsius, meters, and kilograms alongside the US measurements that he bridges a gap with his international audiences.
... Dinorama cracked me up! Thanks Rob for another fun video.
More like Dinorrhea. I roll my eyes every time I see the entrance to that open air potty
@@buster5661 that's exactly what I thought until... Never mind, we vowed to never discuss that incident again.
Now imagine the lines on the scalded up park
“Disney would just charge you for another day of park entry”. Or more insidiously, the charge you a resort rate for the overnight stay and charge you to leave. 😉
That Dynorama bit was hilarious!
But you missed the most important question! How long would the drop be on the roller coaster? And how long would it take to get to the bottom? And how fast would you be going at the bottom?
:-)
Oh wow that's a fun thought! Obviously too late for the video itself, but I just ran the numbers and the 80 foot drop would become a 11,641 foot drop, or 2.2 miles. I'm not sure the exact speed during the drop specifically, but if we assume it's the ride's top speed of 50 mph, it would take about two and a half minutes of dropping to get to the bottom.
@@MidwaytoMainStreet it would also become the longest rollercoaster in the world with the drop alone.
Somehow someway Rob always asks and answers a question that nobody has ever thought about yet seemed so obvious. I love this guy!
Premise for video: Let's say you were awarded a lifetime parking space at Magic Kingdom/TTC. The space would remain empty unless you park there. How much is that space worth/how much money is Disney missing out on by giving you that space?
Timeshare parking space. You "own" the space for some number of days, but pay for it all year. Other "owners" can use the space when you aren't scheduled.
@@lwilton and now Bob Chapstick is working on this now that you have suggested it, great job
Discovered your a month ago and now i cant stopping watch your videos!
Not going to lie I like the answers to unasked questions it makes me happy to know for some reason
So... I see you have a collection of B-roll shots of Disney parking lots? 😮
Should've seen the Dino-Rama joke coming...but it got me.
Dino-Rama was the twist villain of the video lol
It's weird how a square kilometer is the same as a million square meters. You'd _think_ it would just be a straight conversion of 1000 to 1 (M to KM). I guess that the fact it's going on an X+Y makes it multiplicative.
So, the Animal Kingdom parking lot is less than half a square kilometer to start, just for reference.
You should look up the mountain Ama Dablam in the Himalayas! You may find that mountain looks very familiar!
Really cool premise for a video!
Thank you for the show
Hi guys ithink that rob play is the best
Now I'm wondering how big Disneyland would be with a full-scale Matterhorn
I'd love to see this video done
Love your content ✨💕
At 1:47, right before the zoom, I could see my condo on the left of Animal Kingdom. 😎
Hey Rob, would you consider doing a video on the history of onboard ride photos? I don’t know if there’s enough information out there for something like that, but I’m genuinely curious as to who first said, “you know, people make some really goofy faces while on intense rides, wouldn’t it be great if they could see how silly they look.”
That was a great concept. But one thing Rob, as a native of Toronto Canada, you do NOT want -30 degree temperatures.
I otta know.
Woop! Rob uploaded a video on my birthday! 🎁🎉🧡
I would hate to know how BIG the standby wait times would be
I would like to know the size of the goat petting zoo at rafiki's landing pls
I wanna know the size of the goat.
Fun video, Rob! I'd really love to see a fireworks budget estimate video. I know that's a lot of firework watching/guessing, but it would be fun!
The Disney fireworks budget for Florida is really hard to estimate because they don't use industry-standard sky shells. They have their own pneumatically-launched shells with an electronic timer to set off the burst charge. As far as I know nobody else uses that system, so the costs are likely higher than for a standard loadout for a similar show.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom should be a bit more bigger with more room for expansion and plenty more rides and animal attractions, shows, restaurants, and gift shops!
3:29 ...Knew it was coming
I guess they would add more animals to this park.
To get the area you should multiply by 144.5^2 instead of just 144.5. Love your videos though!
Disney’s Animal Kingdom should be a bit more bigger with more room for expansion and plenty more rides and animal attractions, shows, restaurants, and gift shops!
The additions should include more rides like some carousels, more dark rides, and some more roller coasters, the fully-realized attractions and expansions we didn’t get but would like to get, a fully-realized wooden coaster for Dinoland, a Tarzan jungle coaster, a dark ride themed to The Lion King, a Camp Critter area adjacent to Rafiki’s Planet Watch with family-friendly rides and shows and character meet-and-greets, etc.!
Disney’s Animal Kingdom should get some carousels!
#CarouselsforDisneysAnimalKingdom
THE FORBIDDEN MOUNTAIN!
Pack your bags, kids!
That required a lot of research, use that in every aspect of your life.
A bigger Dinorama???? Sign me up!!
This is the content I subscribe for. 😄
And the Tree of Life's larger size honestly scares me. 😅
EE would be an epic coaster ride at that height. But what about the oversized yeti? Yikes!
nice.
Great video! Shouldn't the calculation be based upon the elevation change from base camp to the summit? Because that's where you're starting out from on Expedition Everest, correct? That would make expedition Everest 57.31 times smaller, wouldn't it?
According to the story of the ride, you're actually taking a train to get to the base camp. So it's another one of those situations where we don't know exactly where you start from. So for the sake of the video I assumed ground level.
@@MidwaytoMainStreet Oh, that's right, thanks for reminding me. Lots of variables and uncertainties lol Great idea none the less and one of my all time favorite rides! Keep up the great work!
@@MidwaytoMainStreet Yeah, but you should still be comparing similar measurements. You used sea level as a reference for MT Everest, so you should use feet above sea level for Expedition Everest also, not 199.5.
When will somebody make Expedition Denali?
On the other hand, I’d be nearly 900 feet tall!
Why don’t you post anymore?
😆 you’re becoming a complex math challenge chanel
FIX DISCO YETI!!!!!!!!!!!
technically the mountain is supposed to be on the path to everest, not actually everest
0:45
@@MidwaytoMainStreet yeah, I realize that now. Great video BTW.
Has Joe Rhode got his car keys hanging off his ear lobe? Great if you don't have pockets I suppose.
