I love that he keeps his African accent and that’s so authentic. Some Africans tend to adopt foreign accents leaving theirs. By the way the roots came to Montreal and it was straight fire! Big ups to them too!
Adopting a foreign accent when you live in a foreign country (especially when you're young) it's a natural process in your brain beyond your control because of the exposure you have toward it and since our brains work differently some people will adopt it some will not (or it will take a very long time for the person to get it)

Burna B! The original Nigerian musical genius
Rex Lawson, Fela, Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey, King Sunny Ade, Prince Nico (sweet mother is the number one song of ALL TIME according to the votes on BBC World) … who else, oh the sisters that sang “orere legibo” - never forget seeing a video of them when I was a kid. Outstanding. I have to skip a bunch of other people to mention WILLIAM ONYEABOR who hold the title of musical genius (why go to war is a funk masterclass). Burna Boy on his very best day would STILL have to acknowledge that he stands on the shoulders of these guys … OMG Faze, P-Square, David-O (tee hee) … Like there are so many incredible Nigerian artists … what about Flavour and Phyno and the Omo group who’s name I can never remember but their sound is crisp, tight, with traditional harmonizing and guitar licks that sound like shots of jelly … everything is there. I know I’ve mentioned male artists mostly, so must acknowledge a true original, Yemi Alade. Her song and video for Johnny changed the game in many ways from sound to the styling of the music video, now everyone has some unnecessary comic commentary in their vids. Burna Boy is definitely a good artist (Nigerian or otherwise) and I’m a huge fan but he’s got a ways to go before he could possibly be considered THE original Nigerian musical genius. I mean, who remembers Fela Kuti singing in his underpants seemingly not giving an eff what white people thought of him or his music, that’s original. Gorgeous looking man that he is BB still fits the contemporary mold of Black rapper even if he delivers his lyrics in the style of Fela. The indefinite article seems more appropriate, I think.
