A couple things: -You don’t need a CD System Card to run the Duo family of systems as they all have the Super System Card built in. You WILL however need an Arcade Card Duo to run Arcade CD’s on the system. -You will need a Super System Card to run Super CD’s on a Briefcase Unit, Arcade Card Pro to run everything.
Thanks for the plug Adam. Glad all that stuff is working good for you now. People can also contact me through ebay and Facebook under the name Turbografxfan.
I have a PC Engine Duo. Great system especially paired with an Everdrive. The CDs aren't copy protected, so it's easy to burn disks too. Definitely recommend the Castlevania Rondo of Blood translation.
if I ever ever get my hands on a turbografx 16 it's gonna be because of watching you on this video man! this is one of those consoles I never heard about UNTIL I looked back on retrogaming from the 90s just a few years ago... literally I never knew this console existed back in the day!
That's awesome that Chris hooked it up and fixed your Turbo Grafx equipment. I never had a Turbo Grafx-16 growing up but I would like to eventually get the Turbo Grafx-16 Mini console. Analogue is coming out with their own Turbo Grafx-16 console in HD but since I don't own any games for the console I'll probably end up taking a pass on it. By the way I ended up emailing Deep Silver about Shenmue III Complete Edition for the PS4 and I hope that we see a less expensive copy of the game for sell on Limited Run Game's website. Either way I hope I hear back from Deep Silver and Limited Run Games on the issue, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Never heard of the TurboGrafx 16 until the Wii was made. Didn't know what it looked like or anything about it at all until a few years later on RUclips.
I was going down this route as well as far as collecting all the components to RGB mod, but then the Super SD System 3 came out and changed all my plans. I now just have that plus a stock Pc Engine CoreGrafx in addition to a SuperGrafx. Instead of a TurboDuo (apparently unreliable) & the associated cards, I'm settling for an Analogue Duo next year with everything built-in.
I found a PC Engine setup with the suitcase. After repair, shipping, and purchase price, I paid under $250. I then sold my TG-16 (no CD), and the bid went higher than my costs! So, I made out very well.
Great video...keep it up....great work as always. On a side note...I just lost my father who just passed away this past Monday. I actually spent one day watching your past videos to help me feel better and wanted to thank you for that.
I empathize. Actually, the intro of this video was filmed the day before my mother was hospitalized. The second half was filmed two days before she died. So...I hear you man.
The Turbografx 16 may not be that well known, but for the JRPG community the console is famous for kickstarting and having the best versions of the early Ys games!
I love the turbografx / pc engine. My favorite system. I have many variations or the systems. And over 200 games. Thinking of getting rid of the systems and games but can’t bring myself to do so.
Another great video my dude especially giving this not so popular system some love, now I don't want to step on any toes but I DID see a repair video of a PCE Duo and apart of the repairs was a HU Card region mod to make it region free, why the US games don't read in Japanese systems and vise versa. It has to do with like 4 of the pins to how they are read, this mod auto corrects to which pins need to do what. So there is a ray of sunshine for ya if you ever wanted to consider that in the future for any of them consoles. Cheers.
I almost forget that Chicago is pretty close to Wisconsin and Indiana. I bet if you get the mod for your car to turn it into a boat, you could take a shortcut through Lake Michigan.
I had Keith Courage recap both my Turbo Duo & Turbo Express back when there was a pcenginefx.com forum. I have no idea what happened to that place, but it used to be the go-to place to get work done.
Hey, glad you're Duo an Express are still working good for you. Yeah, the owner of the PC engine forums decided he did not want to moderate them anymore and there was a bunch of drama between a lot of the regulars there which I didn't even learn about until after the forums and closed down.
oh sweet!! discovered Chris Courage recently after his video about a rare Turbografx Duo-R prototype. nice to hear anyone talk about PCE :) thanks for another great video
I should get a camcorder and record my uncle toslink mod my Vsaturn so I can later upload some footage as part of my channel in the future. Actually, I captured some gameplay (Bandicam) of a game that I'll lose the progress of when my laptop's ssd dies. I captured at 5mbps (set to 10), so quality should be decent even after RUclips butcher's my video to 720p30 with whatever bitrate they use for 900p uploads. I'll be uploading in December (birthday month) as my 2nd video ever. It'll probably more significant to the name of my channel too.
These things are amazingly sensitive to power condition. Like, I've seen units that will not load but when other devices are plugged in nearby, even when they are turned off. I doubt the IFU-30 or IFU-30A is responsible other than being really sensitive. The power supply you use means a lot too. I've had better luck with an overpowered 12v plug.
Pc engine collecting is sort of a nightmare between the white unit which is only Rf, a blue and orange core grafix, an interface unit, multiple cd rom cards, the duo and more. Definitely a bit confusing for someone new to it.
The everdrive can be used for up to a super system 3.0 card. However, it cannot be used as an arcade card pro or duo. You also don't need the system card on a duo, it has a super system 3.0 built into the console
You will need the Ted2 3.01 versions found here. Mine wouldn’t work without using these for 3.0 games: pcengine.proboards.com/thread/218/elmers-engine-programming-resource-links
Yeah, Fatal Fury Special requires the Arcade Card Pro when played on your setup. It's expensive but you could get away with a cheaper Arcade Card Duo to play it on your PC Engine Duo instead. TurboEverdrive can only replicate the Super System Card and earlier, which is almost everything. Not missing much, since Arcade Card titles like Fatal Fury 2 and FF Special are only a tiny fraction of the total library... sorta like SuperGrafx games. ;)
Adam do you think in some crazy alternate universe, RGB SCART has the awful visual quality of RF & RF has the gorgeous visual quality of RGB SCART & in that same exact universe RGB SCART is called RGB SHART?
Your video is really awesome I should email him about my turbografx if I like it’s just the back part I tried to get my hdmi cable work on my turbo grafx it says no signal even when the power is on with my game still no signal best regards Nikita ps you can subscribe to my channel if you want

You beat me to it. I guess if you are new to the PC Engine it can be a little confusing.
You both beat me to it. Good work! 👍
My Everdrive has the 3.0 system card rom. Saved me a few bucks.
I love that he makes Sega look awesome because I grew not even looking at sega stuff, but now i want a saturn and dreamcast also a pc engine.

I've always pronounced it Val Prazo - I need to track down someone to fix my CDX.

"you have no idea about the cables--it's messed up!" HAHAHAHAHA story of my life.
That's an amazing thumbnail
Adam to stop the CDRom unit hit run and select on the controller. This will take you to the CD Rom splash screen and stop the cd from spinning.

Update, I repaired the extra ifu docking station. It had faulty work RAM chips inside of it.
Turns out you're a PC gamer, after all... :P
Hey Adam, if I remember correctly you do not need the cd card for the duo it’s built in already

The duo has system card 3 built in so you don't need a card in the system to run cd"s.you only need the arcade card.
I have a PC Engine Duo-R with RGB. It’s a great system. I guess Adam you disregard the Turbografx16 mini because it doesn’t play physical games.
Literally bought one 2 weeks ago that's rgb modded and region free. We are in sync.
Puns!
@@AdamKoralik I didn't see it until you pointed it out.

Yep, you got it correct. H a h
12:50 Chip Senkbeil: I have this random turtle I need to chuck, does anyone want it?
Will you now do an 8th Gen recap?
Adam, great video! Do you happen to know anyone who works on/mods Colecovision???
Not off hand. :/
@@AdamKoralik no worries. Worth a shot.
Cool video tech talk lol yes ok yep oh ok adam
I believe it would be called a boot disc/card
Yeah, Fatal Fury Special requires the Arcade Card Pro when played on your setup. It's expensive but you could get away with a cheaper Arcade Card Duo to play it on your PC Engine Duo instead. Lately all my repaired disc systems keep crapping out. Seems the replacement parts aren't very good.
You know the Pc Duo has a system 3.00 built into it?
im actually looking for the pc engine duo scart cable for my interface unit. i would love to know what it actually is?
What do you mean? It's a SCART cable.
@@AdamKoralik its the one that looks like the megadrive scart, 8 pin connector, but that doesn't fit. And the person I got mine from lost that cable 😔
Rough translation: This software is arcade card software. The system would like the arcade card please.
Adam do you think in some crazy alternate universe, RGB SCART has the awful visual quality of RF & RF has the gorgeous visual quality of RGB SCART & in that same exact universe RGB SCART is called RGB SHART?
The Casio Loopy universe, definitely.

How spicy can you take Wings Adam, what flavor did you get?
Honey habanero is probably my limit.
@@AdamKoralik Oh man, I just had the Carolina Reaper from there. I like the hot stuff. At least until a day or two later.

Do you have Turbografx CD?
Technically yes.
Do you plan on getting every single system that NEC produced in this line up? That’s a huge task!
