My American father settled in the Philippines after leaving the US Navy. He fell in love with the country, married my Filipina mother, and raised us there. He had a successful business in Olongapo until the closure of Subic Base as an American naval base. I'm well-acquainted with life in the Philippines. It’s hot and humid, but you get used to it after a few months. Life there is laid-back, and depending on the region, it can feel like stepping back in time. However, some areas are as modern, if not more so, than any city in the US. For instance, in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), you'll see luxury cars like Lamborghinis and Ferraris. And no matter where you are in the Philippines, there’s always a mall that puts those in the US to shame.

Good choice with Bohol buddy. I lived there in 2007-08. They were infamous on that island for their communist movement and shabu was rampant back then. Everyone was sweating and tweaking from the shabu but they never bothered me. Live and let live!
