Because this shithead cop in street clothes yanked him out of the car before he even knew what was going on, and if he “resisted” in any way his head being slammed to the ground it’s considered “assaulting an officer” or resisting arrest at the very least, that’s how it works. Scheffler should have called someone in management to come down and handle the police. Whether the cops were right or wrong, we are supposed to listen to them and comply right? He had enough time to still make his tee time even after being taken to jail, so I'm sure he could have waited for upper management to handle the police issue, instead of he or his driver trying to force his way in.
Part of the confusion came from this officer being in STREET CLOTHES, so his claim that he didn’t know he was an officer at first is valid.

Scheffler was in a MARKED CAR FOR THE TOURNAMENT. HE WAS INSTRUCTED TO GO INTO THE GOLF COURSE BY ANOTHER OFFICER because he was a player. The accident was nowhere near where he was driving, and local police, WHO WERE NOT part of traffic control decided to do something FUBAR and it led to his arrest. That officer has egg all over his face. He was in the wrong, and was ignorant of the facts regarding players in the tournament who were told to enter into the facility
Tiger Woods was an extraordinary great player and very recognizable for his astonishing play, that was a minority of that sport.
Schaffler is a great player for his respective sport, that is not so recognizable as Woods. With media EVERYWHERE these days, he would have to be extraordinarily great and consistent for 3yrs + and not be part of the majority, so his celebrity status could yield benefits even in accidental situations.
