Joe. I see you just posted this video.. I'm a huge Fan , and give it 7 Stars before I even watch it.. You were the main one to help me understand linux when I started back in Ubuntu 12.04.0. You made it so clear and fun, even with the easy linux show you used to do, and your opening "Greatings And Salutation.". Thanks. Now let me watch the video..
Thanks Joe - entertaining and informative as ever! Great to see you're still doing these Linux videos. I love that your typing is as error-prone as mine is 😃. BTW, I saw you got props today from DJ Ware/Cybergizmo for your excellent bash scripts. Praise indeed!
Lol the reason touch didn't work was because you spelt desktop "dekstop". I'm well proud of myself for spotting that as I'm a noob... Love the video . I've been using virtualbox with windows for ages .. Going to try this on my Ubuntu box if I can ever get the video drivers to work since updating the distro it's stuck in 800x600 mode and drivers fail to install .. Pulling my hair out with it lol
You do real well !.. I think it's best you do things wrong and things don't always work I learn from you better that way.. I'm struggling learning Linux .. It appears that everything I try doesn't work and find that googling a problem will result in the first 30 finds not actually working as its for old versions or different distro .. But your vids encourage me not to give up ... Thank you again ... Although I've been at this video driver for 2 months now .. Think I might have to wipe the box lol
I also had a 3-core AMD Phenom that recently just died. RIP as it was the first machine my father ever built for me. I had a new case for it and powersupply to help it along but I think it helped it out the door in my case.
What computer store in upstate did you buy it from? I live in the Capitol area and would like to meet up with other Linux/ computer nerds. Another great video, thanks for all the hard work 👍
Recently had to wipe my normal Mint Cinnamon machine (due to PulseAudio going crackely, couldn't figure out a fix), so decided to try LMDE6. What I didn't know going in was that nVidia drivers aren't installed by default, so had to install manually. Seemed to install fine, but Sunshine Streamer app doesn't see my RTX 3080, so falls back to h264 software encoding. Not good. Unless I can find a simple fix in short order, I gotta go back to standard Mint Cinnamon.
What do you think about T-Bird 115.3? (I don't like it -- color screwed up. Intermittent deletions. Many junkie ops. Thinking about reverting to an older version) YMMV
I'm not a fan either but I am going to migrate away from T-bird in the next year or so. Don't roll back, though! Running an old mail client or browser opens you up to security risks. Best to just stick with what's current and grumble. LOL
Hi Joe, great video thank you. I have a question while I think about it. I'm having issues setting up 'bu' as a cron job. Can you please give me the correct syntax to setup a cron job that says works twice every day. I've tried complete path etc but for info 'bu' is in my bin directory in my home. Working it manually works no problem. I've also extended it to copy the results to my NAS drive for safe keeping which gets backed up offsite too. Thank you Joe and ATB
BU isn't intended to be run automatically.. The idea is to remove the drive when you'e done so it is offline and can't get destroyed in the event your machine has a sudden power supply failure or gets hit by lightning or a power surge. It won't run as a cron job because of how it handles permissions and checks for the proper drive partition. If you want to make an "on-line" backup, all you need is the proper rsync command running in anacron to take care of it once per day. Be aware, taking backups while applications are running can give you wonky results, especially if you try to do a snapshot style restore operation. Yet another reason it's best done manually... :)
That's a good question.... I assume it's mainly because something like that doesn't exist for Debian naively and they'd have to start from scratch to write one.
OOPS! touch ~/Desktop/hello would have worked just fine if I had not misspelled Desktop. I figure that out later, as usual.
Thank god you figured it out. I was yelling at my tv watching this LOL
👍👍👍👍🤣🤣
oh well. Its something I've done many times, gotten upset then realize hours later that I did it wrong.

Always liked these types of videos
Oh! what an enjoyable "screencast" as always. I've learnt a few things, thank you.

Yep. I figured that out later myself. Typing and talking always messes me up. :)

Awsome as always! 😊

This fun little adventure was like a fork bomb for my brain.🤣
Grear video. Thanks Joe
I say Su Dough as well.
Thanks Joe, I had fun :)
that Bibata cursor looks like it's landed from the future next to your Mint-X theming.

I looked but I can't find the name now. I picked up on eBay... :)

What is the name of that mp3 volume leveling app you like so much? Thank you for posting.
It's mp3 gain and it has returned to the main repos for Debian and Ubuntu plus it's a Snap package. I hope it will come to Flatpak soon. :)

OK Joe- Understood. Thanks for your time.
How do you show program names in the taskbar?
Look up how to setup a traditional Cinnamon desktop.
👍👍👍👍
Good Video
I wonder why they can't port the driver manager over to LMDE?

😃
Virtualbox is faster than Qemu
