This is from Pirates of the Caribbean 3. In the original, it starts with a young boy singing this one.
As he waits to be hanged. Gradually those who are accused of being pirates, knowing pirates, or sympathetic to pirates join in, as they wait in line to be hanged. Drunken Sailor next.

Jose was a last minute replacement for another vocalist who couldn't come after all, due to the pandemic. Since Jose isn't a tenor who can reach those kind of high notes well, Eli had to step in to re-record the high tenor parts that the original feature should have done, and Jose had to record Eli's parts instead. That is why Eli is so heavily featured here instead of Jose. They usually have their guests a lot more featured in the song.

Oh heck yeah, I love this one! I remember when it first came out and it knocked everyone for a loop (if I recall, Geoff was just really starting to unleash the bass beast around then). One reactor was so lost for words he just tossed his headphones and walked out at the end, and one guy was so excited by that first DEEP bass note that he jumped out of his chair - forgetting that he was recording in boxers. Lots of other stories, good times and a great song.

Jose also did My Mother Told Me and Drunken Sailor with them. This is Geoffs' arrangement. Jose is a couple years older than Cesar. They went to high school together and were in the same theater class together. ❤
Musical theater was always my first love, so when it comes to choosing my favorite accapella group between VoicePlay, Pentatonix and Home Free, VoicePlay always wins out for me. I also totally understand that some people simply don't get into the theatrics, but I hope that they can at least see that the theatrics, makeup and costumes are not being used to distract from subpar performances,m, they're there to enhance an already great vocal piece of work. And since becoming a patron, I love being able to see 'behind the scenes' stuff and watch a group of performers who legitimately are not only great singers but honestly seem to have fun doing what they love to do. They are serious about their music , but at the same time they are not afraid of occasionally putting VoicePlay's 'special brand of dumb' on display.
To hear more of Cesar, I would try reacting to either "I Can't Make You Love Me", or "Creep" next. Or, although it's a completely different vibe, watch "We Don't Talk About Bruno."

Yes they are independent of any recording company, they do it all which gives them total freedom over what they choose to do. Earlier videos look a lot less professional but once they started getting income thanks to Patreon they could afford to make much more professional looking videos. On Geoff's videos he always makes a point of thanking his supporters and patrons, as he knows he couldn't do what he does without them.

Ah, my second favorite Voiceplay song (it was first until Valhalla Calling came out)! I listen to it in my sleep, so listened to it over 43,500 times last year. No joke. I love it, and the video still gives me chills!

If you look in the information box below each of their songs, you will see who did the arrangement; who did lighting; etc. for arrangements, Geoff and Layne generally trade off. If you hear a song where Geoff belts his high register then drops to the basement (Hellfire, If I Were a Rich Man, Oogie Boogie), that’s almost always courtesy of Layne arranging. 😄. Geoff’s wife, Kathy, is the production manager. Eli usually does lighting. Cesar’s mirror even got a shoutout in Creep. 😄

You never hear enough of Cesar, IMO. LOL. He’s featured more in their shorts-check out Crazy. Also, that’s him hitting the D6 in The Lion Sleeps Tonight. I think it’s always a treat to hear Eli unleash his rock god, and Geoff’s voice is perfect for pretty much everything, far as I can tell. Layne has become one of the best beatboxers going these days-he’s always full of surprises. We haven’t heard Jose with these guys in awhile. I love his voice.

@@MrsRealistic You will hear more of him in the 'prequel' to this one, My Mother Told Me - same costumes, makeup - amazingly that one was done during lockdown, so they all recorded and filmed at home, using green screen - then Eli added the computer generated backgrounds, a different one for each of them! Fun fact, Cesar is wearing the same hooded cloak worn by Jose in MMTM!

Love watching your reactions and your journey down the rabbit hole that is Voiceplay! Jose has done a couple of other videos with them, including 'My Mother Told Me', the first of the Viking-themed ones (Cesar is wearing Jose's cloak in Valhalla!). For more of Cesar's softer voice, I suggest 'I Can't Make You Love Me', but anything you choose will be great! To dig deeper into VP's background, I recommend Huldra Draco's channel (www.youtube.com/@huldradraco)- she is one of their top Patron members and has a wealth of info on the group, its members and tons of other stuff! 😉

Depression and disability isn't easy to cope with and y'all cheer me up and help ease my issues. They don't go away but they're so much easier to deal with.

There are some sons that Layne gets to sing lines. The Little Mermaid Medley is one of the best. Or, look at You're A Mean One, Mister Grinch. Layne loves doing funny voice parts too. Either him, or more likely Eli, do the character voices as needed. Like in Hellfire and Oogie Boogie Song.

Just about everything they do is great. BUT... some seem a touch better than others. While I could never say any specific song of theirs is my "favorite," this is definitely up there... maybe top 5. "We Don't Talk About Bruno" is another of my favs that you haven't done yet. If you enjoy "twists" on classics, try "If I were a Rich Man/Girl." More of a Christmas theme, but they KILL the Grinch! Fantastic version! You do your thing, we'll follow!
