McDavid will be casted as the next JOKER, you can bet on it, just give him two more unsuccessful runs at the finals! :D

In response to the title of the excerpt from TSN’s That’s Hockey, whether the Oilers will take those early losses this regular season seriously enough remains TBD. They & the Leafs last weekend didn’t have good games, with each team having lost that relevant game 4-1. Between Stu Skinner and Tony Stolarz, the latter gave the Leafs a chance to win via having stopped 25 of 27 shots while the other end the Leafs had only managed to score once on Igor Shesterkin. To be fair the last two goals of the Leafs’ game were empty-netters scored within a 46-second time span starting with 60 seconds to go in regulation.
The Monday MDT game the Leafs had played, like with the NYR last weekend, was a home one but one that featured having scored four goals on Bolts’ main goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy, chasing him from the game after his having allowed that many goals on 14 shots just under halfway thru the 2nd period. Diversity of scoring and point production could also be found throughout the Leafs’ lineup. If playing more like how those Leafs played, including Stolarz having stopped all but 2 of 34 shots that he faced, isn’t what the Oilers end up doing against the Canes, then I don’t like the Oilers’ chances of beating those Canes when the two teams meet at Rogers Place early this evening MDT.

Oilers are old, burnt out, and were never that good. They got hot and had easy matchups. Of course McDavid is good enough to win games on his own, but that will decrease with time, Drai is already fading and the rest of the team is too weak to finish the job.

The McDavid-Draisaitl era effectively began with the selection of McDavid during the 2015 Entry Draft after Draisaitl had been selected in the Entry Draft before that. Only in the past three seasons have the Oilers really had consistent playoff success although to be fair, from the 2019-20 season only the Habs, among Canadian NHL teams, have also had playoff success in consecutive seasons.
The Oilers, going into their Tuesday Mountain Daylight Time home game against the Canes, are coming off a game during which a goalie of theirs once again allowed multiple ugly goals. Last preseason the Oilers, in six of eight games they played, allowed at least three goals, in all cases via having allowed at least four. This regular season the others have allowed under three goals in just one game of the six they have so far played: a 4-2 away win over the Preds. The Oilers have won one other game, that was 4-3 in OT over the Flyers. Skinner and Pickard sure have been streaky, which hasn’t helped very much. TBD will be, in their upcoming game against the Canes, the Oilers will allow under three goals.
