This train seems like from the dreams, I think this journey seems like a dream, fast and shaky, cool, like I am the train driver/engineer and when it is over I wake up.
Amazing topography. I was very surprised to see the line snaking around the mountain edges at what was apparently a pretty big heights with virtually no safety rail along the edge of the roadbed. A train that derails at speed there is going very far down.
Wow you guys have to spread the word about Greek railways, this is the second hidden gem I have stumbled upon! Not all tourists love the treeless seasides , many are mountain people too.
If you are nervous, stay clear. The scenery is stunning, the narrow gauge tracks overgrown on the sides by trees is just the beginning of this highly sensory experience. For me, imagining being on the train and not watching it on video while lying on my bed at home, for me the speed and cacophony of horrible sounds as driver and conductor shout at each other over a heinous sound system were not to be re-experienced. 1500 -2000’ below this narrow ledge with it’s myriad of tunnels lies the verdant valley floor decked with olive trees. Clinging to the rocky mountain at overt speeds, you anticipate fallen boulders sending us into the void only to smash into smithereens. Flying out of tunnel mouths the train is immediately faced with numerous chasmic crossing bridges..My shattered senses are seeking peace and stillness.
It's normal gauge actually. I kind of liked the cab sounds from the engine, the brakes, the bark of the wireless, the groaning of the driver's seat springs... It makes you feel like you're in there. The only problem for me is that it is quite shaky, reminding you it's a camera view. Human eyes compensate very well for rhythmic motions and we don't realise how shaky it is sometimes.
This route was part of the south-north main rail line of Greece for 110 years. Millions of people have passed through it over the years, hundrends every day. I must have passed through it a couple dozen times myself.
Why is it that in all the train videos I have watched in Europe including this one there are never any wild animals crossing the tracks? And you never see any dead animals next to the tracks. Here in the USA we have thousands of animals crossing the tracks especially at night, deer, coyote, bear, racoon, fox, wild hogs, elk, moose, and lot more . Great video and amazing scenery btw.

Crikey! Those drops give the Swiss a run for their money. It's interesting: I live in the Mediterranean too (Malta) but the foliage and the landscape are very different. For one thing, we don't get autumn colours: it's more like a mild, wet winter and hot, dry summer climate. Not much in terms of spring or autumn.
@@kotsaris87 I was aware that it's mountainous, and that you can ski there - not something you usually associate with Greece. It's just that we're more or less in the same neck of the woods (I'm originally from the Netherlands, by the way), but yet the landscape is so radically different. But on the other hand, Malta is extremely densely populated, so you don't get to see much of the landscape anyway.
Fantastic line hope it can be saved ??? Make it a world heritage site, like Settle and Carlisle line in the UK, Tourist Line, people would pay serious money to ride this line, perhaps with dining , Pullman and observation carriages plus Steam trains......
This part of the line was part of the main south-north railway line of Greece, connecting Athens to Thessaloniki. It started working in 1908. Since 2018 this part of the network is bypassed by a new double electrified high-speed line going through a different route, which is serviced by the IC trains, and this part is serviced by regional trains only. The terrain in mainland Greece is quite mountainous and there are significant parts of the railway network passing over and through mountains.

17:15 wasn't there a red signal ? Or does it mean anything else in Greece ?
Yes .Was a known system error
Most of the time a red signal means another train is coming on the track, and he would have to
wait on the first side track he came to, for it to pass...Were no side tracks!!
Στον Γοργοποταμο γιατί πάει τόσο αργά κάποτε πήγαινε πιο γρήγορα στη γέφυρα ;;
Για λόγους συντήρησης της γέφυρας
Η ελλαδα ζει ακομα στον 19 αιωνα μετα μας φταινει οι γερμανοι οι αμερικανοι και οι εβραιοι

No or not enough lighting in the tunnel.in case of an emergency,u screwed.
He kept his headlights on ALL the time, even in the tiniest tunnels, what's your problem??
@@duanewilliams7353 You have obviously no idea about tunnel safety so why do you comment? He was talking about marked escape routes in case of emergencies when passengers have to leave the train.
@@steefant OK Thank you!!!
This was built in 1908. I guess nobody bothered to add lighting since. The problem is of course that a lot of those tunnels do not have a road to service them that high in the mountains.
Filmed with a potato...
