What I love about this loading screen in particular is that, if you look closely, the figure seems to be someone kneeling in surrender. They're on their knees, hands not all the way up, but mostly, yet The Dude, assuming this loading screen is from his perspective, is hallucinating them looking terrifying. Even though they're surrendering, they're still seen as a threat through the eyes of The Dude, they're still a hostile. I really like these loading screens in general, they're weirdly comforting to me, they show something I like. They show that, in the eyes of someone with sufficient paranoia, anyone, even someone going out of their way to not do so, can seem a threat, a threat that can be taken out and should be.
I always thought that those black things between the figure's legs were the result of image distortion. But after this, it looks more like the figure's shoes to me. I can't unsee it but I'm not complaining.
I accidentally left this on in a call with my brother, so the whole time I was talking to him this played quietly in the background. The scariest fucking conversation I’ve ever had.
Fun fact: the sound effect is from the sample pack, "Methods of Mayhem - Industrial Toolkit". it has lots of pretty similar sounding stuff, but also things like electronic buzzing and guitar samples. Very interesting pack. I'm currently using it in my game along with this very sample.
I'm also using the sample pack, "Altered States" by "Zero G". Its another sample pack used by Running with Scissors for Postal. Half Life also uses this pack (which i think makes it even more interesting). it also says a lot about how the game industry was back then. Its also something to keep in mind if your trying to get something to have a 90s - 00s era feel to it.
So like back in 2007 or 8 or something my cousin had this game - safari biathlon - on a disc. It's a futuristic racing game, where you race over 3 planets with 3 tracks each to become champion of the universe. I remember this particular sound being in one or couple of the tracks' ambiance so hearing it in a game that I never played before 2022 and where the goal of it was explicitly to kill people was comforting in the most awful way, to say the least. Of course it's probably the most baseless and self-indulgent headcanon, but I like imagining Postal dude also finding comfort in the memory and nostalgia of this sound (though he definitely heard it somewhere else because postal predates SB by 4 or so years) and that's why we hear it in places throughout the game.
@@TheRealMrMan I don't know, probably not but did you know that high verbosity is one of the things that can be more common among autistic people same way low verbosity/being non-verbal is? It can stem as a way for autistic people to avoid being misinterpreted by being incredibly specific as allistic (aka not autistic) people tend to read between the lines when there's nothing to be read as autistic people are usually more straight-forward and blunt in conversation.
I think the OG postal 1 loading screens look more uncomfortable than redux, they look unprofessional enough to look like it was made by a mental patient
Thank you for posting this, the other version that was uploaded used the bad version of this audio that's used on Redux, it doesn't loop properly. This audio does, however, so thanks!!
I dont remember if this was the exact soundtrack but you could hear this in postal 2 if you went to a certain area, scared the crap out of me. I thought i was about to get jumped
Did a bit of research and figured out the soundtrack i heard was 29.Wav/ The Mine music from Postal 1, i misremembered the menu ost as the one i heard.

It’s more clear that it’s kneeling in the Redux version of this screen, check it out for yourself.
Hey they shot at me first.
That's a good point...
Sounds like something here would hear from xen in half life
Glad I’m not the only one who’s thought this over the years
Yeah it reminds me of the healing pools
Wait isn't this also a sound use for the healing pools?
funny you say that, Entropy Zero 2 uses this sound for the xen healing pools
It was so confusing hearing it for the first time in that mod

when you haven't slept for 3 days and you genuinely start seeing shit:
"I feel better already" - Postal Dude
"This can't be good for me but I feel great!"
"i feel like shit"
"HmHMMmm this stuff really works!"
It sounds so familiar... Yet so alien, it feels tranquil and soothing honestly. I like the sound design of postal, its pretty eerie.

Why just why, I can't make it up, why are aliens in postal. Why are they depicted so grotesquely accurate. Who are these aliens.
i swear i heard this while playing Portal: Still Alive on the Xbox, maybe i've been playing Postal: Still Alive all along then.
music to my ears
This is one of my favorite audio segments from any game ever. Postal 1 has the best ambiance soundtrack of all time.

Sounds like this was recorded from a back hallway in a mall, and the loud music inside is being muffled as it’s played outside of earshot.
Wait shit, you're right. There is like faint distant music in this track.

Trying to figure out what could make this sound in an area like a Train Station or anywhere really?
Maybe it's a church?
