I know it seems like ppl don’t watch the tacviews, but they’re really cool ways to break down the fight and I really enjoy them when I can spare the time. Keep doing them, even if it seems odd.
11:24 Going into the vertical based on your observations and intuition was really astute. As you then zoomed out in Tacview you appreciate exactly how lengthy this fight had become. Well flown. Nicely done.
Man, just when I was feeling like I'll never see something like this. Literally I searched "DCS" and this was at the top. That was the best dogfight I've ever seen.
Holy shit, the Flanker basically fell out of the sky at 50-60-ish knots when you guys started the vertical fight. He apparantly just still had enough energy to pull it over the top in that first loop. Great fight by both 💪
The skin on that Tomcat is the same squadron as the first model airplane I ever built. That takes me back. That low speed over the top stuff from 4:00-5:00 is when I definitely approve of flap use. Pop them out to get you over the top when under 200, pull them back in as your nose goes below the horizon so you don't jam them.
Does your flaps being jammed prevent the wings from sweeping? If it does, wouldn't it be possible for the flanker to get out of the rate fight and run away?
I think the flaps being stuck down actually also means the F-14 is stuck in a high-lift configuration (ignoring sweep) - the high lift is associated with a correspondingly high amount of drag, and so the F-14 also will struggle to accelerate
Correct, but if he knows the flaps are jammed he would be well served to get the fight fast and more vertical as I wouldn’t be able to keep up/get fast.
Funny, i was just thinking something similar … but not about wing sweep. I was instead thinking just about raw speed since flaps are notoriously high drag, and now locked in that state.
Check out the Merch Store: growling-sidewinder.creator-spring.com Check out Thrustmaster: bit.ly/tmpromogs Huge thank you to TheLastTaco for helping with this video and putting up this amazing dogfight, I loved the challenge and the desperation in this one. Thank you guys for watching and I'll see you in the next one.
ok so this is probobly the BEST tac-view review I've ever seen on your channel!!the way you went from the rolling scissor and beautifully and gracefully ditched into the rate fight?that was absolutely amazing to watch you patiently work your way back onto his 6 and utterly saw his flanker in half!!!primo stuff GS! p.s. I actually had to go back and watch the review repeatedly because it was so good and proves you know your shit!you are way more skilled and knowledgeable than YOU give yourself credit for!!I really appreciate the humility, humbleness and the massive respect you give to every opponent.dont really change a thing as far as your channel is concerned because it's all already there!
When you went into the vertical, would it have been another valid response to just keep turning? You're in a Tomcat, on the deck, already in a ratefight, your bandit just dumped all their speed failing to pull lead -- yes, they're on your tail, but they can't stay there for long with these parameters, and they can't climb out of the ratefight to change up the geometry because of their low energy state. As genius as going into the vertical was there, I'd classify that as a panic move on second thought. Yes, it is something you can do to a slow bandit on your tail, it avoids the immediate danger (and it certainly made the video hella interesting), but in the long run it favors the aircraft with the better TWR, and isn't that the Flanker in this fight?
I'm finally beginning to understand this stuff. While watching the Tacview, I was able to predict what would happen. Thanks for the content and stay well. It's kinda tough yet to figure out what's going on during the actual fight, but the Tacview is a great tool.
When you are flying the 14 and doing a Tacview review i find it helpful to enable the tacview 14 AOA gauge so you can monitor where you are and see why you may have been bleeding to much energy
"...I'm going to jam the flaps..." Switch the wing sweep to manual mode, use the big boys, then when you get what you want, switch back to auto.... That should keep you from jamming the flaps... I freaking love watching you throw that aluminum cloud around the sky!
I think the flaps jamming is a structural and mechanical thing, caused by too much force in the wings/flaps? Essentially damaging the aircraft to increase turn rate.
@@The_Radio_Check - "Overspeed" of the flaps is a thing but I don't think either of them were over 250 on the deck...It would be something to consider....
GS… Bro you have such amazing situational awareness while flying its crazy. The fact that you’re able to fly and go where you want while looking back most of the time blows my mind. Talking about walking and chewing gum at the same time on steroids.
I love these dog fights. Including the ones with missiles. Watching a movie like Top Gun is cool and fast but that slow building anxiety of knowing there's a missile inbound or the enemy is about to pull you into the HUD is so great.
Dude that dogfight had me so anxious, very rarely I doubt the F-14 will win a dogfight unless its just completely unfair (5th gen) but against a flanker and especially the running the A variant is really nail bitting to watch
Still training to get good enough to fight a real player. I've been learning a lot, but I need to get locks faster, especially with the electro optical system on the Flankers
I like when people train up to things instead of jumping straight to people and getting themselves discouraged and then quitting. Lots of people want to skip the early steps of learning so good for you for not doing that and gradually building your understanding. I wish you success in your first pvp dogfight.
More trigonometry than geometry. There are geometric angles involved, but anticipating points in the future along dynamic curves in a 3D worldspace compared to another dynamic curve is more trig... which is more impressive.
Been watching your vids for awhile never knew what one circle vs two circle was till you broke it down! Definitely making me want to become a pilot man!
I'd love to see a post commentary from the cockpit pov, where you explain the maneuvers you were doing and what their goal is/when to do them You already kind of do this but I'd love to see a more coordinated bfm lesson without you being distracted by also needing to be the pilot
I'm so sad every time I see one of these videos that they decided against the "Super Tomcat". The Tomcat is such a beautiful and effective plane, it's a pity it's not flying anymore.
F-5E (you) vs. A-4 (the guy that flew it really well before). Two somewhat similar aircraft against each other. Or do French mirage against F-5E (you) the F-5 Is a bird with some surprises. Full flaps and lots of rudder, it can almost cobra
That was awesome! Request: please do one with the Vought F-8 Crusader (a.k.a. "the Last of the Gunfighters" due to being the last American fighter-jet with guns as the primary weapon). You'll know best what to put it up against. Thank you in advance!
legit super new to all this dog fighting stuff (started watching you lastnight lol) so did jamming your flaps give you more maneuverability but you would lose overall speed in the end from it? thats what im guessing atleast. loving the content!
Matchup proposal 1: Can you please do a Su 57 vs F 35 dogfight? I *really* want to see you flying the Felon. Matchup proposal 2: Can you do an I-16 vs Su 57 dogfight?
f22 (you) vs 10 p51s
I think people would love crazy stuff like this
I also want to see him go against an f-22 in a Russian I-16 😂
P-51s wouldn't know what shot them down, the F-22 can carry more than that many missiles.
@@tremedar
It would of course need to be a guns only fight.
@@tremedar you’d need wing pylons to carry more than 8 missiles google said 6 120s and 2 sidewinders

it's almost the best part of the video, the part where you understand the most and learn the most, i absolutely always watch them
I just love how he seems to always have a tacveiw going on in his head when he’s fighting
Why do you say that ppl don't watch?
It's the best part of these videos, I'm always bummed out when there's no Tacview

Normally I don't care for the Tacview Debrief, but this one I saw all the way through. Well played!
great fight, shows how quickly the tables can turn when the right choice is made at the perfect moment
You went into the "Danger Zone" and owned it. Good win with the Tomcat.
The boys at Top Gun were highly impressed.

F14 flaps go down, oh look, a dime, lets turn on it !
2 (or 3) F-18s vs a SU-57 please!!
F-14A? Fight goes to the flanker.
F-14B/D? Flanker is annihilated before it even knows what was coming.
