  • After externally insulating with Gutex wood fibre boards, the next step is to ensure the building is fully windtight and weathertight. In this video, Niall Crosson discusses how this can be achieved using a peel & stick breather membrane from Pro Clima called Solitex Adhero, which can be applied to many different substrates such as CLT, wood fibre, OSB and plywood.

Does Solitex Adhero resist to sunlight? Can I put open jointed cladding on it without additional protection?

Solitex Adhero is not suitable for open jointed cladding. It may only be temporarily exposed to UV on walls for up to 5 months during construction. The Pro Clima Solitex Fronta Quattro membrane can be used with open jointed cladding with up to 35mm gaps. Quattro also has the advantage of being pure black so you can't see any colour or writing through the gaps. www.ecologicalbuildingsystems.com/product/solitex-fronta-quattro

why do some people put the self adhered WRB on the outside of the gutex and some people put it onto the outside of the sheathing (under the gutex)? and I think I've actually seen some people put it in both places

This depends on a number of factors. For example, if the construction will be exposed for some time before the Gutex is fitted then the Adhero peel & stick membrane can be applied as a temporary protective layer. When Gutex is fitted on a wall or roof, the inclusion of a breather membrane gives additional weather protection for the insulation before the wall cladding is fitted. If open jointed cladding is used and one wishes to conceal the insulation, then the Solitex Fronta Quattro membrane may be used.

In your Ultratherm demo video, they used primer on the Gutex before applying tapes and flashings. Is primer unnecessary on Multitherm and/or with Adhero?

To apply Adhero to sheathing boards such as plywood/OSB or for timber such as CLT then no priming is required. For any wood fibre insulation board, prime first with Pro Clima Tescon Primer RP.

Hi Niall curious about the under ground heating with such a well insulsted house ?

Hi Brian, The UFH is really installed for belt and braces. It will seldom be used, but on the coldest periods of the year or cloudy winter days when solar gains are minimal it is useful to have. Of course there are various means of supplying a heat input when needed, but the client preferred this method. Hope this helps answer you query, Niall
