      Why? How else would you get wood for furniture etc?

      If done right it’s the best thing for a forest. Woodlands need light and especially light reaching the ground. A great number of our trees in England don’t like being in shade, so a closed canopy woodland is useless for most of out trees. Thinning, Coppicing and pollarding allow for light to get in and the trees to grow, plus all the flowers that bloom when there is a bit of light further boosts the biodiversity of the woodland. These guys look like they are getting it right so please don’t comment if you don’t know what you are on about, thank you.
