    That circular footwork sequence should have been a level 10. It is unreal. The speed, the closed hold, the knees-action, the changing of direction while in close hold, the sustained edges. And they are the only ones that can do this whole thing counter-clockwise. They are beyond awesome. They are the ice-dance.

    I love this program. It may not be as "showy" as other programs they've skated to, but it's so sophisticated and elegant, it's like there's no gravity, they glide effortlessly. Truly the epitome of ice dance.

    Tessa and Scott have the most impact on me when I watch them perform. They are pure magic. They bring a special presence that no other ice dancers can bring. When I watched this live, I started crying because it was so beautiful. D/W may have power and athleticism, but V/M have something that can't be described with words. Something that makes them different from everyone else.

    • @erinpeacexo1854
      @erinpeacexo1854 7 лет назад +17

      Just so elegantly boring if you choose to use the word "elegant". It was far from unmatched skills. Three years later, after watching these programs several times, it is more evident to me that D/W were the clear champions by a country mile. Its obvious they felt the need to prove to the world and themselves that they can win again after losing to D/W consistently for more than two years. Hmmm we'll see what happens.

    • @shineon5841
      @shineon5841 7 лет назад +17

      erin peacexo I don't think you know the definition of elegance... Why such a need to re-vamp the tension between the two teams under a comment that doesn't even mention D/W? Can we just appreciate both w/out ALWAYS having to compare the two.

    • @eurocamp2541
      @eurocamp2541 7 лет назад +7

      You're just fueling the fire by saying erin peace doesn't know the definition of elegance. What is that about? I agree this program was not Olympic caliber. It was mediocre at best.

    • @shineon5841
      @shineon5841 7 лет назад +8

      If it was not Olympic caliber, how did it still medal then? And I was just questionning their comment about how this performance lacked "elegance". They questionned the orginal poster's word use of elegance, so why can't I do the same? And my comment was far from "fueling the fire" if you compare it to what they said... yikess man..

    As I am watching this video again I can't help but reminisce their past performances, how they executed the steps with the rythmn of the music. They were really a perfect pair with gracefulness and elegance. I kept on watching every video that they have here in the YT. How I wish they will still dance not as a competition but as an exhibition for their fans. Thanks for this video.

      this is a V/M video. if you have nothing of value to say, why are you here? Why do you keep on coming here? SEEM like you love this so called "vanilla' performance alittle too much.

      The judges tried to give it to the French, but in the end because their short program was so clearly inferior, even as the scores did not reflect the real difference. But they got higher scores in free dance for no reason at all, their program was as good as V/M, not better.

    I'm Canadian and I really don't know who deserved the gold for ice dance. Honestly speaking, I do wish that Tessa and Scott won the gold at Sochi, but had they gotten it, I may not have been able to see them still compete till Pyeongchang. In the end, I'm just so happy that Tessa and Scott are still competing and hopefully they'll get their second OGM at Pyeongchang! :)

  • @flourchylde
    @flourchylde 7 лет назад +41

    It's been more than three years and I still enjoy watching V/M and D/W's free dance programs from the Sochi Olympics. D/W are more athletic and V/M are smoother and more graceful, which I prefer. I also love the special bond that exists between Tessa and Scott. It really enhances their performances. As much as I adore Charlie White, I think Scott is the better skater. His lines are just exquisite. That said, both couples are extraordinary and it is a joy to watch them.

    Gold-Silver-Gold. Nothing to complain about there! Plus their “Umbrellas of Cherbourg” at the 2008 World Championships was so beautiful there aren’t words to describe the picture of young love they created. I love their skating more than any other pairs I’ve seen, whether in dance or figure skating pairs. Yuzuru Hanyu is the only other skater who’s body, as he flies across the ice, just takes your breath away.

    • @suehat52
      @suehat52 9 лет назад +10

      I agree with your comments. Personally, I am a sports fan, and I enjoy athleticism, which is Davis and White's forte. VM are exquisite, but I want to be entertained. There is something about watching DW that is mesmerizing, a ying and yang-Charlie's strength paired with Meryl's delicacy, but she is a little spitfire underneath! Charlie even has admitted that Meryl is a better skater. They both have their strengths that make for a good pair that pleases the eye and the crowd. Since DW have own gold for the last 2 years, they should be hailed as the best skaters, until another couple takes over and starts winning gold.

      I think people underestimate the fortitude of both these teams. To come back and stand on the Olympic podium again in any position is a remarkable feat. To trade gold and silver while battling for the top spot for an entire quad is legend. I agree with you too; each was totally deserving of the OGM in their time. For their era, no man lead his partner like Scott Moir; no man lifted his partner like Charlie White - and each was paired perfectly with his ice dance princess. I wish there had been less bitterness surrounding their final competition on the part of some fans, but time has a way of taking care of that too. It was a privilege to watch them all and they continue to have my love and thanks.

She recently posted a picture of Yuzuru, Shoma, and Javi, congratulating them and expressing how she wished she could congratulate them in person. I'm sure she didn't mean to be rude. We all do accidentally rude things and don't even realize it.

      This was a poor choice for a Olympic year. It was just lackluster in my opinion. I think they were trying to re-create their 2010 success which obviously did not happen. Meryl & Charlie's program was much better all around than Tessa & Scott's hence the result. I hope Tessa & Scott can bring back that spark in the upcoming season. They lost it to Meryl & Charlie somewhere around the beginning of 2013 and never regained it. Good luck to them!!

      I am entitled to my own opinion, and whether or not you agree I couldn't care less. Let us clarify your rude comment. I don't have a "sick obsession with vm" or ANYONE else for that matter. Last time I checked this venue was for posting respectful comments on whatever topic. Here we have figure skating. One of us is being respectful and its not YOU!! How dare you say I'm polluting VM videos on you tube. I voice an opinion that a lot of people share. V/M's FD was a real snooze. Everything about it was bad from the music to the choreography. And by the way before you go and blame Marina Zoeuva, I read it was THEIR choice of music. I'll reiterate - poor choice of music.
      You want to see some stinking pollution, go to D/W's videos and see the lovely comments that were left by mostly V/M fans and some Papadakis /Cizeron fans which by the way had awful things to say about Virtue & Moir as well. Go stalk them and leave me alone!!!!!!!

      I've been reading a lot of posts from V/M and D/W videos. They are both degrading, but I think V/M's fan base is just a little worse. The Sochi Olympics are long gone. Time to look to 2018. D/W were better and deserved to win. But if V/M want a chance a gold in 2018, they need up their level of performance. I wish them luck because they are very talented.

    I think my favourite part about the comments is when someone comments something like "I didn't find this boring" or "they are amazing" and people feel the need to comment things about D/W. For the "I didn't find this boring" one, people commented that it didn't match D/W program and while that may be true, they weren't saying that it was better, they were saying they didn't find it boring. Nothing to do with D/W program at all. For the "they are amazing" one, I saw people commenting about the difficulty and how they couldn't have beaten D/W with it. And again, while that may be true, all they were doing was complimenting their favourites, not talking about D/W or how they should have won. So why do people feel the need to bring them up? Like... they weren't bad mouthing D/W. You don't need to defend them. All they were doing is commenting on V/M and how much they love them and their program. If someone is bad mouthing D/W, for sure, go ahead and defend them but do not create unnecessary drama because someone's favourite isn't the same as yours.

    D/W came up when V/M was struggling with tessa's injury. The judges made them another level (according to the scores), and even after V/M came back on their best, D/W's scores were way too high to beat. Even though V/M have much better skating skills (which is MOST important in icedance), they've just been downscored. The commenter also mentions that they are the 'BEST' in the field, the 'BETTER' skaters (no object).
    Since they were sometimes inconsistent and D/W aren't, there could have been some competitions that D/W beat V/M. But still, like this competition, V/M should have deserved their golds at least when they were flawless.

Regardless of how anyone feels about V&M, I can't imagine how anyone could think that this subdued performance should have won gold over the much more dynamic FD from Davis & White. Ironically, V&M lost the FD in Peyongchang, too even though they won overall.

    • @L1623VP
      @L1623VP 3 года назад +1

      @@rosanishina5097 You want facts? Okay, I'll give you some facts about V&M that have nothing to do with opinions or what "style" someone prefers, but viewing the objective competitive record.
      It's interesting that after Peyongchang, the media took to calling V&M the "most decorated" ice dance team of all time and not "the greatest" of all time. That's because V&M skated for 11 seasons, far longer than most dance teams stick it out. So, of course if you skate longer you're going to win additional medals, but do more medals make you "the greatest"? Equally, when you compare V&M 's accomplishments to those of other dance teams apples to apples, it becomes clear that they've been surpassed in other ways regardless of their second Olympic gold medal.
      Russia's Grishuk & Platov also won two Olympic ice dance gold medals 20 years before V&M in '94 and '98. V&M never successfully defended a World Championship, winning three times in '10, '12, and '17. G&P won four consecutive World Championships from '94 through '97. V&M have only one GPF title to their credit, while G&P have two. In their eleven-year career, V&M were undefeated in only one season; G&P accomplished it twice.
      Although Davis & White retired after defeating V&M at the 2014 Olympics, they have more gold medal victories over V&M during their competitive years together: D&W (9) vs. V&M (5). If we remove Four Continents from the tally because it's not a full international competition, gold medal victories over each other = D&W (7) V&M (3). Total golds from all international competitions during their years together = D&W (22) V&M (14). Total golds without Four Continents = D&W (19) V&M (11). During their years of competing against V&M, D&W had three undefeated seasons; V&M had none. D&W also have five consecutive GPF championship wins, a feat no other skater has achieved. V&M have one, earned after D&W retired. It's clear that during their competitive years together that D&W were by far the more winning team.
      So it's interesting when we compare V&M's record against other dance teams. Doing so it becomes clear why they're easily not "the greatest" dance team of all time and why the media didn't crown them as such. Fans may think so, and that's fine, but the competitive record tells a different story.
