  • Jazz mallet player Stefon Harris describes his Vic Firth M36 Signature Keyboard Mallet.
    STEFON HARRIS
    Vibraphonist-composer Stefon Harris is heralded as "one of the most important young artists in jazz (The Los Angeles Times)." A four time Grammy nominee, six-time Best Mallet player by the Jazz Journalist Association and recipient of Lincoln Center's Martin E. Segal Award, Harris earned a B.M. in Classical Music and a M.M. in Jazz Performance from Manhattan School of Music.
    Stefon tours world wide with his band Blackout and the San Francisco Jazz Collective, teaches at New York University and has been Artist in Residence at Fontana Chamber Arts (Kalamazoo), The Lied Center (Lincoln, NE), and San Francisco Performances. Mr. Harris has served on the Executive Board of Directors for Chamber Music America and is the first musician formerly elected to the WBGO-FM Board of Directors.

    We were lucky enough to have this guy come to our jazz festival; amazing performances. And the humming that he's doing is actually him singing what he's playing, literally almost note for note; That's aural skills magic that I wish I had. He knows exactly what he's playing before he actually hits the notes.

    Thanks Stefon I Have a set of your M36s signature Mallet. I Truly love them better with my Blues and R@B tunes more so then the Garry Burtons M25s. In That i use for my hard and fast standard jazz tunes and the likes of. Hope to see you in person some day.

    How is this mic'd? Just one mic in front of both instruments? Sounds like the middle keys are a bit louder though..

    2:54 = Stella by Starlight. Not sure of the other one. I don't mind the humming - it displays the focus on melody.

    Your humming is distracting, I hear it in a lot of your live performances.
