Wait until you hear their newest, Metallica's Nothing Else Matters! It just dropped 4 days ago, and it broke all of the fans, and now it's breaking reactors. It's stunning. The creative vision for this video was seen as a follow up to their performance of Warriors, which fits nicely with a post-apocalytic theme. You may notice that there is a critical difference in the interpretation of this Dream On from the original: In the original it's an anthem of defiance and determination. In this one, it's morphed from that youthfulness to a strong older-but-wiser thread; wistfulness about time lost. So... the imagined overall story thread.... the Warriors, from 2 years earlier, older, a couple of their companions lost and a couple new ones gained, more battered but still together at the fringes of their world. The thing with VoicePlay is that nothing is random. No detail too small. They see each video as an art piece, and treat it accordingly.
Voiceplay is: Geoff Castellucci (human subwoofer with the incredible hair and 5 octave range) Eli Jacobsen (pronounced Ellee) ..the little bald rockstar tenor who started out the song... Layne Stein (vocal percussion genius) Cesar De La Rosa (phenomenal baritone/tenor on the stairs with the fabulous hair). Omar is the crystal bell tenor in the center of the lineup in the hallway. They generally put their featured singers in the center, and do collaborations with many singers. They are known as the Theater Kids of Acapella, and make every song they do their own. Unbelievably talented bunch of guys. You will enjoy everything they do! If you like Disney stuff (you mentioned Moana) ...check out "We Don't Talk About Bruno". Absolute genius! You also mentioned boy bands.... you should check out their "Boy Bands in 5 Minutes". It is absolutely vocal lunacy in the best way!
The three premier Acapella groups, Pentatonix, Home Free, and Voiceplay, each have their own direction, but all have a great bass, and a strong vocal percussionist. They also know each other and are friends. I also recommend Geoff Castalluci's solo work, where you can hear his 5 octave range
Omar was the young man sitting down . The bald guy is Eli (rhymes with jelly) Jacobson. The bass is Geoff Castellucci, who has his own low bass covers channel, the beatboxer is Layne Stein, who also sings at times, and the guy on the stairs is Cesar de la Rosa, the newest member of the group. Hope that helps. The atmosphere was intended to be post apocalyptic, as was their previous Warriors, in line with the words: the time has gone.
I’ve seen them live in concert. The only thing wilder than the way Layne can lay down a beat is the fact he can do it for an entire concert. Geoff, the bass….hon, you haven’t even heard him yet. That was mostly his middle range with slight hints to his deeper and no hints to his upper. Search RUclips for Geoff Castellucci “Ain’t No Sunshine” and/or “House of the Rising Sun”. Thank me later. ☺️ If you want crazy runs, find VoicePlay’s cover of “Tennessee Whiskey”.
I giggle every time someone calls Geoff a baritone. (I mean, yeah, he says he's one... but is waaay too comfortable singing right off the bottom of the staff to be a baritone.)
His speaking voice implies he's a bass, he claims his comfort zone (tessitura) is a baritone, yet he sounds effortlessly comfortable as a tenor and has trained down into a basso profondo range. I agree, he's the whole piano.
One thing with Voiceplay, always wait until the list of patrons roll at the end. They often slip in a little extra at the end. You might even want to turn on the closed captioning because they add bits of commentary that are quite funny.
It's always wonderful to see someone react to VoicePlay for the first time!! They are the most creative and innovative of all the acapella groups, and do all their own arrangements (usually by the bass or the beatboxer), and handle their our production -- editing, lighting, sets, costumes, and often makeup. All 3 major groups are great (Home Free, PTX and VoicePlay), but many of us prefer VP's theatrical tone and sense of fun. The bass is Geoff Castellucci and he has a 5 octave range. He says he sings 'bass guitar', but on his own channel he covers all the vocals himself (from bass to lead to tenor), as well as doing the arranging, filming, editing and lighting himself. You should check out his Sixteen Tons or some of his other work!
Love the Moana medley! Definitely recommend that. Also, like everybody is saying, don't miss "Nothing Else Matters." It's crazy good! Loved your reaction!
A detail that makes this performance even more intense: the set they used is an abandoned school. Eli, the bald tenor, was a student at this school. So, when they sing about “the past is gone,” they’re literally sitting in the ruins of Eli’s past.
So many voiceplay covers to listen to. Moana medley, wicked medley, little mermaid medley, carry on wayward son, warriors, nothing else matters, if I were a rich man/girl and so many more. Can’t wait to see your voiceplay journey. Great reaction
Re the video -- this is sort of a "part 2" to their Warriors video. By the time they shot Dream On, they'd lost two of their squad (Earl, the big guy who's surprisingly a high tenor, and J.None, Black guy who's first to sing in Warriors), and, as the line says, "the past is gone" -- but they're still fighting. FYI, although J's joined the Navy for a 5-year contract, he's already come back on leave to shoot a few videos with VP, including their new cover of Nothing Else Matters.
@@AdamStraughan I am new as well & thank you for a great reaction to Voice Play. Would you please put this list of songs Voice Play covers on your list to react to ? 1. Nothing Else Matters 2. Carry On My Wayward Son 3. Eleanor Rigby 4. Superstitious 5. Mr. Blue Sky 6. Halo, the theme song from the Halo video game. There aren't any words to the Halo theme song. Voice Play will amaze you with all they do. Always remember, never stop one of their videos before the credits roll or you could miss something. Voice Play sometimes pause for effect near the end.
I remember when you reacted to This is Halloween by them you said you would definitely be doing more of them but then I didn’t see anything else. So glad you came back to them! They are fantastic!
The theme they are going for in their trio of songs (this shares a theme with Warriors and Seven Nation Army and they are even called linked) is Post Apocalypse. That is why their clothes are ragged and they seem so dirty :) Great reaction!
Hi Adam. I take it you are not familiar with Geoff "That Bass!" Casteluchi? He has many songs out on RUclips, many are very funny as well. He multitracks both the music and video, as well as being the bass voice in Voiceplay.
Well, hi! I’m glad to see you again! I’m a sucker for backdrops, and there’s so much to see in yours. I’m probably not going to recognize most of the action figures, but an AXE?? It’s probably from a story I don’TK now about, but way cool. I’m sure someone has told you that Voiceplay is theater as well as music. This is actually the sequel to Warriors (Imagine Dragons), and both are meant to present some kind of post-apocalyptic future scenario. Typically their theater is a bit more on point-for example, their Little Mermaid Medley, where they’re playing out some of the characters in the movie, or Hoist the Colours, where they’re pirates. They also do straight-up music as with their latest, Nothing Else Matters by Metallica (seriously, if you never watch another one of their videos watch that one). Anyway, great reaction, and please do react to more Voiceplay!!
First time watching you, hello! Came up in recommended so figured I would give you a listen and I much enjoyed it. I cannot wait for you to get into voiceplay more and Geoff their low bass (not baritone), you will be blown!
You do not need to blur out their videos. They have no issues with reactors showing them. Check out other reactors to them; you'll find their videos are clear. VP puts everything together by themselves.
While I appreciate what you’re saying, it’s usually more a RUclips thing than the actual band. I always put the link to the actual video in the description for those who want to check it out unfiltered
Geoff Castellucci pronounced Jeff also does is own covers without the Voiceplay band you should definitely check out, Blackbird cover from the Beatles,16 Tons originally done or made famous by Tennessee Ernie Ford, Misty Mountains Cold from the movie The Hobbit, House of the Rising Sun originally by The Animals, and many more, check them out they will blow your mind with all of his ranges he can do.
I just agree with others here: listen to their latest release, "Nothing else matters" by Metallica, which many started to call "a capellica" 😁. It broke pretty much EVERY reactor so far... I'll just say that I'm NOT a Metallica fan, I actually kinda "hate" Metal, and I f***ing CRIED listening to that one, and still do, not only watching but just THINKING of it. Even right now. 🙂 That said, nice reaction, I enjoyed it and just subscribed to see more of your reaction to VP. 😁 If you're not familiar with Geoff ("Jeff") Castellucci's bass, I'd suggest you check out Voiceplay's "Hoist the Colours" (featuring José Rosario Jr.), "The Dragonborn comes" (again featuring Omar Cardona), "Halo Theme" (featuring Scott Porter, one of VP founders... Listen to his explanation of the reasons behind that performance at the end of the video, you won't regret it), "My Mother Told Me" (again featuring José Rosario Jr.), which is the one where Geoff earned the nickname of "Foghorn Geoff" 😁. But most important, check his own channel here on the Tube. He's amazing. 🙂 See you next time!
Loved the reaction, can't wait for you to check out their latest Nothing Else Matters. It's phenomenal!! The setting has to do with Warriors, this song was dubbed Warriors 2. You'll have to check it out.
Thank you for a great reaction to Voice Play. Please do some other reaction videos of Voice Plays cover's... Eleanor Rigby...Mr. Blue Sky...Carry On My Wayward Son...If I Were A Rich Man/Girl from Fiddler On The Roof... Warriors...The Little Mermaid...We Don't Talk About Bruno... Hoist The Colors
You do not need to have transparency on. VoicePlay respects reactors and wants people to see their videos. VP has no obligations to record contracts or other companies. They do everything themselves. The precedent for Dream On is Warriors - take a look. It's great.

Seconded! _Dream On_ is a great cover. _Nothing Else Matters_ is *magnificent.*

Knew you’d love this one!! :D Omg you MUST hear the latest they just dropped. Metallica done with Acapella plus a surprise by the beatboxer. Epiccccc!

He one of the greatest bass-baritones of all time.
I saw a comment a little while back where someone said he calls himself a baritone with bass range, but he's actually a man with a piano range.

I'd say the same for Home Free. Both groups often slip in a little message after the song itself is over.
It's always wonderful to see someone react to VoicePlay for the first time!! This wasn't his first time reacting to them. He mentioned This Is Halloween and they were more animated in that one.
Thank you for the reaction. They are my all time favorite a Capella group ⭐️
Love the Moana medley! Definitely recommend that. Also, like everybody is saying, don't miss "Nothing Else Matters." It's crazy good! Loved your reaction!

Тогда это еще более символично, чем могло бы быть вообще. Спасибо, что сказали, даже не знал об этом.
They nailed that as usual. I know how talented they are but they still somehow surprise me every time. Loved the arrangement too. 🔥🔥🔥
Hey Adam so glad to see you back reacting. I've always loved this song and these guys aced it.

The bass Geoff Castellucci has his own channel where he does Low bass covers. I'm here and subscribed for anything VoicePlay and Geoff.
Thanks so much! Please check out my video of them performing This Is Halloween too 😁
Fantastic reaction 😊 I’ve subscribed to see more VoicePlay reactions please xx
