Just got the Lew's Xfinity new hot orange and black. The new one is fire on the water. For $69 spin cast to $89 baitcaster nice for the price.

I got myself an old baitcasting rod for free and I've been wanting to take it bass fishing badly. I got the reel cleaned up and tied on some new line, but I've never really used a baitcaster before, and I really don't know how to cast one, lol. It's an old Abu Garcia reel on a medium-heavy rod, 15 lb line. Do I have to set the drag back to cast it out? Also, I know if you don't hold onto the spool it might backlash, but I don't know if that's true for all reels. I also usually just fish for trout, and I've only ever caught a couple bass but never on purpose, but good video bro!

Thank you! You’re going to want to hold your thumb on the spool, to keep it from slipping loose and backlashing. There should be a small knob that you can tighten or loosen, this impacts spool speed, when I was a beginner I set this very tight (the spool would spin slowly) which allowed for less backlashes. There are also magnetic brakes on some reels especially newer ones which the tighter you go (closer to 10) the less backlashes you will get. Slowly, over time you will become accustomed and get the hang of it. I would recommend watching a video on how to cast a baitcaster as it is hard to describe over a comment. Simply put, you hold the spool with the thumb and press the button, then cast and let go of the button while feathering the spool with your thumb. Sounds complicated, but it’s pretty easy to get the hang of!
