    I was able to see Leonid and Friends in concert in Seattle in November 2019. What a great show.
    And I met them back stage afterwards. What a great group of people who felt so privileged and happy to be touring the USA and meeting the American people. Ambassadors of music!

    what i appreciate is that they also cover other artists of the time and do justice to every one.
    if you haven't already, check out their Earth Wind and Fire covers as well as Tower of Power, and more.

    I’m in Maryland and have been following Leonid and Friends for a few years now. I couldn’t believe these two were not familiar with “Getting Stronger Every Day”. It certainly was a radio hit! I’m almost 70 years old and a big rock fan of the 60s and 70s musical genres. I was impressed that L&F even got the “jumping Jack Flash it’s a gas gas gas” background vocals that you can hear, if you listen closely, during the ending. i hope the listeners go to L&F’s RUclips channel and enjoy all their other performances! They are very impressive.

    Chicago is the original and was my favorite group of all time. The difference between CHICAGO and LEONID and FRIENDS is the technology in recording.
    The notes and timing and feel are the same, but. Leonid and Friends focuses on the sound of every instrument and voice being balanced and heard. I can hear every instrument and vocalization adding to the richness and color that was not available with Chicago as it is now . Yes, note for note , but now I can hear every sound together with none over shadowed by any other. Even the shakers and tambourines and bells...They are all blended perfectly with the new technology.

    The 70's was one of the best decades for great music, these guys are awesome, it never gets old, especially that jam at the end. Still gets the hair on my neck up. Peter Cetera has the perfect voice for this band, so easy to tell its him with those horns it's their trademark.

    This tune was released in 1973 from the Chicago VI album. It was a big hit for them too. Leonid & Friends appreciate Chicago's music so much so that they do everything possible to recreate it as close to the original as one can and they do a phenomenal job in doing so. I do have the collection of their covers of Chicago. You will appreciate their work.

    Don't forget that the original was recorded 50 years before Leonid and Friends, so the difference in recording techniques accounts for the sonic differences. There's much of the same thing happening in the graphic design industry and there's visuals that parallel to your thoughts about music and you can break it down to a more human level. In the 70's and 80's artists who had to use analog to create where also subject to the imperfections of analog (the tools they had to work with). Then when we moved into digital spaces, we get to explore and enjoy super high quality and flawless quality art/music. A lot of why nostalgia has been a trend in film/music/ art recently is because the over polished digital work comes across robotic and manufactured. The background noise and imperfection of analogue gives the art form it's "human" quality.

    I'm brand new to your channel (this is my very first time watching you). I really enjoy the way you interact with each other and your musical appreciation for music style outside of your personal preference (metal). I was born in 1960, and played sax in school, so I have an affinity for 'horn' music and all music from the 60's & 70's when a lot of experimentation with sounds & style were so prevalent.
    Another group I think your wife would really appreciate is Blood Sweat & Tears. They were formed out of studio musicians to directly emulate Chicago because that sound was so New at the time. Thank you for your honest reaction and genuine appreciation for the musicality of Chicago and bands of that genre and era. Kudos to Leonid & Friends for their wonderful rendition as well. An awesome group in their own right.

    • @4thArmoredVet
      @4thArmoredVet 3 года назад

      "solely digitally-focused recordings" L&F's music is an analog recording. If you mean the music is stored digitally then that's another story. Are you referring to digitally produced music? Digitally produced music is the crap that's being produced by people who are not musicians and can't stay on pitch. I heard Chicago live and their sound was more like L&F's than the washed out music in the video. I'm sure the tapes have been remastered and digitized but it sounds nothing like the original.

It blew my mind listening to this cover band giving so much respect to the original that Leonid made sure that there was no discrepancy on the cover of Chicago, EW&F, and a Chaka Khan cover they did.

  • @todmiller9736
    @todmiller9736 3 года назад +1

    I believe the difference being heard is the difference in recording methods. Chicago recorded this in the early 70’s; analog recording and mixing to tape. This was also processed for this video as part of the TV special “Chicago in the Rockies.” Leonid and friends recorded in 2019; fully digital, digital mastering and mixing, no loss from magnetic tape, etc. Consequently the sound is much cleaner; the difference between digital and analog. The choice as to which is better is subjective, as you prefer. Probably the way it should be. There’s no denying the mastery of Kath, Lamm, Cetera, Seraphine, Loughnane, Parazaider and Pankow in the 70’s and ever since. Leonid and Friends pay such great respect to Chicago by playing and recording the music so faithfully, you’d think they were channeling the original musicians. Please keep doing these comparisons, a brilliant idea.

    Well, Leonid & Friends definitely has the edge in overall sound quality. 50 years of advancements in recording technology will do that. Chicago, of course, wrote the song, and they were the ones who came up with their unique sound in the 70's. And as good as Leonid's singer is, no one can duplicate Peter Cetera's voice. Having said that, Chicago has been one of my favorite bands since I bought Chicago Transit Authority in the early '70s, but if I wanted to see a Chicago concert today I would go see Leonid & Friends, not Chicago's current lineup.

    "Feeling Stonger Every Day" was a huge hit for Chicago and is a great example of their talent and musicianship. If you really want to give yourself a treat listen to the early music if the original Chicago, and all of the music from the Terry Kath years. Much different from the more pop oriented music from the 1980s and 1990s.

    Like this comparison. However, it’s apples and oranges or better rubles vs dollars! I like the two studio recordings. But remember, Chicago had been recording as a band maybe 5 years and in their 20’s! Leonid and Friends are definitely older now than when Chicago was touring. Finally, recording technology of 70’s vs 2010+ is like Night and Day (another Chicago album with Swing Era music - 1997 circa). Leonid and Friends is without a doubt, the best Chicago tribute band. Recreating the studio version is what makes them sound better. We still need to know who wrote, performed and recorded Chicago music - Chicago!!

    Both are perfection. Leonid has the better sound and mixing technology. L&f also cover Steely Dan and Earth Wind and Fire. Check out My Old School and In the Stone by them! Lead singer Sergei is now holed up in Ukraine due to war.

    You are the first people I have seen to actually compare the two bands. You have to give it to Chicago for writing such a great song in the first place. Obviously recording quality has changed a lot since the original was recorded. But I have to say I like Leonid's version better primarily because I like the lead vocalist better. If you really want to be impressed see what Leonid and friends did with Color My World. I never liked Chicago's version but what Leonid did is a masterpiece.

    The LaF recording almost can't help but be better sonically due to the change in technology over almost 50 years. AND LaF does a great job of recreating the sounds (plus, fun to watch them recording them, which you typically can't do with Chi), BUT Chicago created and performed the songs and should be recognized for that. Kudos to L for his great work in recreating the tunes, but more praise to Chicago for creating the tunes originally.

    I've only listened to the first Chicago half and I'm already in love with your partner/maybe wife? I honestly don't know. Considering this song is written as a "It's ok, even though it crushed me I'm working my way out of the heartbreak" she seemed to pick up on that instantly and have the empathy to shed tears over the fact. Sometimes things don't work out, and usually there's one left wondering. This song is a perfect example of the way you learn to move on and find yourself and your inner strength again. Now onto the second half...And she gave it to Chicago, so it's sealed. I love her, and her shedding tears would have definitely elicited a reaction from me other than crossed arms and a head nod to the best. Certain music when you and your partner are feeling it together can make a magic that just doesn't happen organically. When something like music expresses the love you feel, more than your tongue is capable of, you just go with the flow. Now it's time for the adult conversation, I once had a girlfriend who would rarely finish without Led Zeppelin playing. It was more about Robert Plant, but I wasn't complaining because it was fun, and who am I to pretend that someones fantasies aren't valid. I have my own, and have been honest about them, because they're tame by today's standards, but I find it refreshing when people are open and honest with their turn ons, and fantasies. Work on them together, and understand we all have our kinks big and small.

    I'll just keep hoping for a Toehider reaction video... Mike Mills really deserves way more recognition, he's an amazing talent! My suggestion would be Meet the Sloth, but other great starting points could be This Conversation is Over, Go Full Bore, Whatever Makes You Feel Superior, Lix & Fairs and He's There And Then He Does That... just go for the title that appeals most to you... you won't regret it, guaranteed! Hugs from Italy!
