I'm 63 years old and every time I hear this song it makes me want to just jump up and down and celebrate! I feel so lucky to have grown up in that era.
I’m 69 and lived the 60’s,70’s and 80’s.
All turned to shit after that, but the memories of those 3 greatest decades I am eternally grateful for.
I'm 67 I feel like that to 🎉😊
Yep, one of the most uplifting songs one'll hear - a vocal, lyrical and instrumental powerfest
@@Kathy-bk6cgi'm 67 also i and i also feel lucky to be born in this era.
Can still see the 45 spinning on my record player
NEW ARTIST ALERT!! Blood Sweat and Tears! Amber you will love the horns! Spinning Wheel is great!
Or You Made Me So Very Happy
Definitely! and You’ve Made Me So Very Happy.
YES
I was going to put in When I Die.
Yes yes and yes
This is probably Pete Cetera's best song from the "old" Chicago days - before Terry Kath passed away. His voice in this song shows his excellent singing range.
I wld say 25 or 6 to 4 as well as questions 67 and 68 has him singing at his very best.
Oh yes!
It was also the song that held the roots of what peter kept coming back to after Kath died, which made it more like a trip to the hallmark store.
Terry Kath - R.I.P. !!
Call On Me is great too!
Chicago is a band that was made to be heard outdoors in a summer night concert setting, under the stars with ten thousand fans singing along in unison. That's the essence of what they were about.
Yes definitely! I remember seeing them at Jones Beach, Long Island, NY. They just have that vibe of summer, they were fantastic in concert! So many great memories connected to their music.
Pine Knob. Lol.
Saw them at Artpark in Lewiston, NY outdoors. Outstanding!!
Saw them in Toledo Ohio last night outdoors, it was perfect. 6 days after a EF2 tornado tore up my neighborhood.
@@carlin8313 - have seen Chicago at The Knob 4 times - simply just THE BEST.
I love old Chicago. This is some of their best man. Id recommend Beginning’s, & Call on Me… amazing stuff… great reaction!
The best
Absolutely. Then came all of the sugary ballads.
Agreed. Listening to Peter Cetera's ballads in the 80s was mind-numbing.
You don't like the David Foster version on Chicago?
@@Head-ck4hu not really. The songs are nice & all, but to go from
The band they were to sappy 80’s love ballads only…. Wasnt thrilled
To me, Feelin' Stronger is a breakup song that starts sad/wistful, transitions to "not every love is forever", to the joyful closing celebrating the fact there WAS a love.... 💖💖💖
Since you like Chicago, please do a reaction to the group Blood, Sweat, and Tears. Much like Chicago they have great horns and vocals! Some good choices would be songs, God Bless the Child, Lucretia MacEvil, and Spinning Wheel! Please react to them! You will not be disappointed! 🎺🥁🎷🎶 Be blessed!
Totally agree
Agreed. David Clayton Thomas ... what's not to kije?
Lucretia MacEvil is amazing. You will love the horns!!
Don't forget "Go Down Gambling"
And Canadian greats Lighthouse
Drummer extrordinaire: Danny Saraphine. Another Jazz drummer playing for a Rock band and making them all the better for it. 🔥🔥🔥
Amen
You could see Amber's smile broaden when the horns came in and the tempo change set her off....hope she doesn't get jealous if I mention that when they released their first 3 albums I saw Chicago in concert 14 times....Santana 15 times
also Bowie...ELO and Elton John all in the month of May 1975
Enjoying the channel!!
Like Charlie Watts, Stewart Copeland, Ginger Baker.
@@brianherrington7226 Watts & Wyman carried those guys, in my humble.
@@BoomerMcBoom Bill had that low unassuming but distinctive bottom in his style that was a millisecond behind Watts who was following Keith’s rhythm guitar. Keith has always lead that band when he was on rhythm guitar and it was a dangerous trio with him and Charlie and Bill because it had a wobble to it yet it still stayed together because it could have fallen apart at any second.
Can't ever go wrong with Chicago...any time of the day, any type of mood, no matter what you're doing....you can never go wrong with some Chicago!!
Beginnings… it has everything you want in a Chicago song
I don't think they ever reviewed Beginnings, which is quite shocking.
Danny absolutely killed it on the drums!
Hard to believe he eventually got 'fired'.
Attend a Leonid and Friends concert. You’ll be transported back to a Chicago concert. Check out 25 or 6 to 4 from them on RUclips. Then look up Earth Wind and Fire’s September by them.
When I first heard Chicago in 1970, I would focus on Seraphine's part because what he was playing was phenomenal!
@@steves7053 especially when he was a co-founder. In this song he was astounding on the kick drum.
The most positive break up song of all time. Chicago was amazing!!
Still haven't seen anyone do "colour my world" from Chicago. Short, heartfelt lyrics, slow. But you still get an iconic horn (flute) solo. It's very early and very different Chicago.
A few other reactors have done "Ballet for a Girl in Buchannon", which includes 7 songs. The 5th song is "Colour My World". The first song is "Make Me Smile" (album version) and the last song is "Now More than Ever". When the "Make Me Smile" single was released, the record company added "Now More Than Ever" to the end. Do a search for the Ballet and you should be able to see other reactions.
Amber, I do recommend you do the full "Ballet". You can cross off so many of the requests for "Colour My World", plus hear the way it was meant to be heard, as part of a larger composition.
I agree you need to do "Colour My World" which is one if my all time favorites. It was written by their trombone player James Pankow and their sax player Walter Parazaider is the person playing the flute solo.
Go check out Just Jammin'. He has reacted to "Colour My World" (and loved it) as well as a lot of other Chicago songs, sometimes more obscure. Anybody reading this go and subscribe to his channel and check him out. He reacts to a wide variety of music and is prolific in his output. On top of that he is reacting to all of Prince's albums. If you are a die-hard Prince fan that channel is definitely for you. J and Amber will never get to a wider range of music at their pace.
You can say it; One of the their Best Songs.
My wedding song
Colour My World
Hard To Say I'm Sorry
If You Leave Me Now
Hard Habit To Break
Some Chicago I believe you haven't reacted to yet.
Another fabulous Chicago hit with lots of horns. I don't believe there is a song by them Old or New Chicago that isn't a absolute amazing good rockin time.
Keep digging. Lots to go. Loved your reaction. "Keep winding a little more" ☺️☺️😍😍 "Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️❤️ 🇨🇦 🇨🇦
Thank goodness, another person who likes both eras
Colour My World and Wishin You Were Here I think had to be the best.
Ah, Color My World. The song that so many learned to play on the piano back in the 70s.
I also would recommend If She Would Have Been Faithful as well.
The first choice was good. Stay away from later overly sweet pop crap
"Searching So Long," "Old Days," and "Color My World" are also great songs...classic Chicago!
Still waiting for some Blood, Sweat and Tears! "You Make Me So Very Happy", "And When I Die", "Go Down Gamblin'", "Lucretia Macevil", Spinning Wheel" "I Can't Quit Her" or "Smiling Phases"...
Please! Please react to Blood, Sweat and Tears!! Horns, horns, horns!!🎺🎶🎺🎶🎺
Jay/Amber, you'll LOVE their "Beginnings" and "Just You n' Me"!!!!
edit- on "Stronger" Peter Cetera - lead vocals, bass; Robert Lamm - keyboards, backing vocals, Fender Rhodes electric piano;Terry Kath - guitar, backing vocals; Danny Seraphine - drums; James Pankow - trombone;
Lee Loughnane - trumpet; Walter Parazaider - tenor saxophone.
You two need to do a deep dive on Chicago!!
AGREED~!
Another great hit by the super group Chicago. You gotta try BEGINNINGS and DIALOGUE PTS 1 AND 2, you won't be disappointed, promise.
As a young kid in junior high, Chicago made me want to play the trumpet. I am 61 and still playing. Long live Chicago and their songs, and people playing instruments and using blood, sweat, and tears to make music vs electronic tricks.
Not EXACTLY the same, but you can experience Blood, Sweat & Tears for the first time. Kind of a grittier Chicago. Good songs: Spinning Wheel, Lucretia MacEvil, And When I Die.
You need to do Chicago's "Color My World" it was the prom song in the 1970's
I ❤ Chicago!
"Old Days" is one of their underrated songs from the mid 70's. "Baby What a Big Surprise" was their latest hit at the time Terry Kath tragically died. Their comeback album had "Alive Again," which is criticized as a disco song, but they manage to make it a good one.
I remember the day Terry passed on,N of Toronto at our cottage,I had came in for lunch,I would sit in front of this big ass radio, all of the sudden the radio station tells the what happen,I just started getting into them.
'Old Days' is a great one, almost on a par with the above song.
I have a tattoo that says "On My Mind And In My Heart To Stay" music notes above with Old Days and adding a cardinal soon.
Actually the disco crossover was "Street Player" from Chicago "13", Alive again was on the "Hot streets" album which was Chicago's 12th album. "No Tell Lover" was a great love song on the "Hot Streets" release.
This was their first single off their 1973 album Chicago VI. Great song... thank you for the reaction. ❤
"(I've Been) Searchin' So Long". One of my most favorite songs by Chicago.
I always break my neck to get here when you play my favorite band of all time!! I'm so hyped!!!
Can tell Amber loves the whole ‘70s vibe. I bet you would have loved growing up in that era! ❤
Chicago always a powerhouse band stronger every day since 1967
Year i was born
THOSE HORNS!!!!
Barry Thome beat me to the punch with Blood Sweat and Tears having a similar sound to Chicago. Many horns. Songs like: Lucretia Macevil, Spinning Wheel, and Go Down Gamblin is a real BANGER!
The outro of this tune is so energizing and uplifting.
Check out Beginnings the horns are crazy. And the ballad" Color my world"
"It's really mellow"--moments before the explosion.
Seven songs into Chicago's mighty discography, and you're doing great. I love that you've sampled the band in both the 70s and 80s, as they truly evolved over that period. However, you've still got so much left to react to! I'd recommend "If You Leave Me Now", "Baby What a Big Surprise", "Love Me Tomorrow", "Stay the Night", "Hard Habit to Break", and "Along Comes a Woman". OR you could do more Peter Cetera, like "The Next Time I Fall" (duet with Amy Grant, a great voice), "One Good Woman", or "Restless Heart".
I really liked Chicago… Oh yeah… the horns were killers! They gave a free concert before going to play at our Civic Center back in the day! They appealed to all audiences!
I love the message of this song. We love each other, but it's time to let go, and we'll be alright.
“The best thing to happen to you…was the worst thing to happen to me”…hits HARD!
Also there's a Chicago tribute band called leonid and friends y'all should check them out, they do annual tours
I second that!
Seen them twice, just blew me away!!!!
My personal favorite Chicago song is "Color My World" . Please react to it soon.
Danny Serraphine is just a monster drummer.
At 5:56, the backup vocals sing “Let’s spend the night together.”
At 6:01, “Jumpin’ Jack Flash, it’s a gas, gas, gas.”
“Introduction” is my favorite track. It’s the first song, on their first record… Personally, I think it can be counted among the best ‘track 1’ songs of any bands debut albums of all time… There are very, very few songs, that are first tracks, on debut albums, which do a better job of telling a listener exactly what the band is all about.
You nailed it
I could listen to this song all day. Just put it on endless repeat. One of Chicago's all-time best.
Doesnt matter who's doing the lead singing, this one was the fantastic Peter Cetera. Awsome sound as always.
This Classic HITS LIKE A BRICK!!,,
The Ides Of March "Vehicle"
A MUST HEAR!!
Chicago - Ballet For A Girl In Buchannon live Tanglewood 1970 Terry was on fire and horns galore and then Danny on drums !!! You still have not heard the other song that they cut out of it. I went on vacation with my parents to visit relatives in Oklahoma where my mother was born. (Fort Cobb). Met a 3rd cousin. She played the piano . I had brought the sketch scores for several Chicago songs. When I got home, Colour my World was missing. The girls really loved that song. I could only smile and was glad she had it. Ballet is where both Colour My World and Make Me Smile were cut out of to fit AM radio's 3 minute limit.
You love Chicago? Excellent. Highly recommend the song Dialogue 1&2. It's just one song. Great horns, great lyrics, great music.
These guys are all classically trained world class musicians
I remember being in 9th grade, driving down the road with my dad, and this song came on the radio. I didn't know Chicago VI had dropped and I yelled "Chicago" at the top of my lungs. My dad thought I'd lost my mind, but a new Chicago album was worth yelling about.
Back then, music wasn't "dropped". It was "released".
@@waynemarvin5661 Yea I thought about editing that word as soon as I typed it, but I thought I'd leave it for the younger listeners.
I've loved Chicago all my life. They were my grandfather's favorite band, and I'll never forget driving around with him on Saturday mornings listening to them on 8-track in his station wagon.
Check out Go Down Gambler and Lucretia McEvil from Blood, Sweat and Tears, and Tower of Power's What is Hip. Super horns.
The original band members of Chicago are the best!😁😁🥲
Have listened to this band for 50+ years and seen them in concert twice. My teenage years can be chronicled by numerous Chicago songs. Love all their songs but have to admit my favorite is " Call on Me".
I always wanted to know why he had to leave her? on Call on Me
Amber and Jay, you need to react to the first Chicago song ,Introduction, from their first album (CTA). This song sets the table for their career. The horns, guitar and lyrics set the stage. Love watching your reactions.
For me Chicago will always be C.T.A,. Having older brothers and sister they had (and I still have) several Chicago albums, even have a Bob Seger when it was 'The Bob Seger System "
I do believe this is one of Chicago's best. Danny Seraphine was a beast on the drums.
There is an unbelievable Russian cover group that does this song, as well as
many other Chicago hit songs and does it so well, it;s hard to separate them
from Chicago. They are called Leonid & Friends.
Actually, Lenoid and Friends are from the Ukraine.
It's been reported that the vast majority are from Russia,
not Ukraine. In fact, the large studio that's shown where they
constantly put things together is in Russia with thanks given
to a specific Russian who donated use of the studio to Leonid
who is a close friend,
Another great band you must react to is Lighthouse and tunes: One Fine Morning, Pretty Lady and Sunny Days. Guarantee you will enjoy.
You guys are listening to really good songs today! Thanks for making me smile today. ✌️❤️
"Old Days" is one of my favorite Chicago songs. I saw them twice and I was amazed by their performances.
From the lighter side of their catalog "No Tell Lover", "Call on Me", and "Wishing you were Here".
You need to check out “Beginnings”, off Chicago’s first album. There is a remastered version from 2002.
YES!!! Great song!
Chicago's always had a great brass sound.. I've seen them in concert twice!
You would love their 1st album! It’s amazing! Beginnings, Questions 67 & 68, Does anyone really know what time it is, I’m a man….Terry Kath put this amazing Jazz/Rock group together & you’re listening to Danny Seraphine on drums. Colour my world is another favorite along with Saturday in the Park! Awesome group.
They have already reacted to some of your suggestions
I watch their videos everyday but sometimes it’s hard to remember them all 😎
I was a kid in the 70's loving Chicago the way you guys are now! It's awesome to see the new generation discover great music.
I knew you would love the ending to this song. Everyone explodes at the end! I saw them live decades ago and they ended with this song and it was fire!
70s Chicago is the best. Thanks for reacting to this wonderful song. Please consider reacting to Beginnings. Make sure it's the full version; 7:55.
"Colour My World", "Baby What A Big Surprise", "Dialogue", "Beginnings" and "Just You N' Me" are fantastic choices for Chicago.
Ok i know im late joining this but I feel compelled to give a shout out to Peter Cetera as a Bass player! His bass playing power often gets overshadowed by his vocals. Also I love you two! Your energy is contagious. Keep em coming!
This is Peter's greatest moment IMO, both vocally and more importantly as a bassist. I think this bass track is underrated. It's not flashy and he's not throwing in a ton of different notes. He keeps it simple, but attacks the hell out of the notes he does play. A "classier" bassist would let the notes ring out more, but Peter lands on a note at the end of a line and attacks it seven or eight times in rapid succession.
He drives the absolute hell out of this song. He's steadily accelerating it as well. The second chorus is incredible with a more dynamic rhythm at the beginning to then lighten up on his muting technique to let those bass frequencies wash over it all for the main riff.
Chicago is an "Elite" Band...Just like Earth Wind & Fire they have stood the test of time for decades, their music is still being enjoyed today and they are still touring & performing in 2022!!! Hey Rob Squad, would you please consider reacting to Chicago's song titled "CALL ON ME" it is from the 70's and it is a total "VIBE" with great percussion and their excellent "HORN SECTION" doing their thing which is something Amber will absolutely "LOVE!!!"
Hopefully you can react soon enough to "Old Days" by Chicago
one of the truly great American bands...great vocals, musicianship , and songwriting
We can just imagine how much you two dance together.
Chicago was so cool. Many different sounds, but you always knew who it was.
Same one I requested! I sure hope they do it
I've Always loved Chicago!! ✌❤🎶
Appreciate Chicago drummer Danny Seraphine so much now hearing you guys and other reactors break down their songs. Phenomenal
Chicago - the Greatest!
They blew out all the stops here. One of the top rockers of the era. ...any era
He's an amazing bass player and an amazing vocalist songwriter
Old Chicago is the best in their catalog!! Thank you for the reaction. James Pankow, their trombonist co wrote this one & sooooo many more. He’s amazing!!!!
Chicago "Wishing You Were Here"...Nuff Said.
Totally agree about Blood Sweat and Tears. Hard to believe you haven't listened to more of them. "God Bless the Child"!
To tell you how awesome Chicago is as a band when they were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame they had all the members of both incarnations of the group perform on stage. It was awesome.
Love Chicago ! such a clean sound ! the kind that you wanna crank the volume !
Jay needs to pay tribute to his significant other with Blood Sweat and Tears, "You've made me so very happy".
I saw them live at Madison Square Garden (NYC) in 1977. Great show. I wish I still had that concert t-shirt.
This was a great jazzy along with some light blues song and one of this band's best. If you want to hear a band with horns from the same era that also has a jazzy sound but does the blues better than about anyone Blood Sweat and Tears version of God Bless the Child is a great place to start.
Can't go wrong with Chicago. Their list of accomplishments is amazing. 23 gold, 18 platinum, 8 multi platinum albums. 5 consecutive number one albums on the billboard 200, and 20 top ten singles on the billboard 100. In 1974 they had 7 albums (their entire catalog at the time) on the billboard 200 simultaneously. The original group was inducted into the Rock N' Roll Hall Of Fame in 2016. As always enjoyed your reactions.
You guys have come so far learning new genres that you're comparing "big sound" with Supertramp and ELO. I feel like a proud music parent. Haha
One thing I like about Chicago is, as the song goes on they seem to be feeling stronger everyday... LOL
This was one of my favorite songs when I was about 8 or 9 years old. I can remember watching Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin Eve, waiting for Chicago to come on and play this song. I barely made it because I was a very active youngster who was exhausted by nighttime and 11:30pm or later was a tough task for me.
I was the same age!!!
Wishin' you were here is not their most popular, but has the Beach Boys for background vocals! So who could go wrong with that! Lenoid and Friends also do an amazing version of this song!
Love Leonid & Friends. I've seen them four times, and met the band a few weeks ago at the meet and greet after their show at The Birchmere.
My life's music has been Beatles, Motown, James Taylor, Beatles, Chicago, Beatles. and the rest just a load
of bits and pieces. After a hard day at work come home, relax and listen to James Taylor wow! what a voice.
What we need…to feel stronger every day…by ourselves and in all of our relationships. We need to give of ourselves by using our talents to bless humanity. Thank you for your fun reaction videos!!
I love Chicago, I was born in 1971 and I could remember my parents having that piece of furniture in the living room that was part cabinet part eight track player and part turntable, I remember me my brother and my sister all begging each other to put on the Chicago album and jumping around the living room with complete joy. This brings back fond memories of my childhood. Another great song by then is searching so long. Enjoy
Another great Chicago song that shows off Peter Cetera’s incredible vocal range plus the amazing horns is Questions 67 & 68 from their first album….Chicago Transit Authority
I just love early Chicago a.k.a. the Kath period. The level of musicianship and talent from every member of the band is first class. Kath obviously was masterclass and is sorely missed but with this song you can hear how great Serraphine was on Drums.
The thing about BIG bands with BIG sounds is that every song is a journey. No short songs from this band....enjoy!
"Saturday in the park" is another Classic Chicago sound that gives off Summer vibes. It was another of a long list of hit songs for the band
They have so many hits! Chicago is my ALL time favorite band! The band, blood sweat and tears has GREAT horns too! Listen to some of their hits!!!
Tower Of Power is another great 70's band with a killer horn section. You're Still A Young Man shows off their talent. Also, So Very Hard To Go, has a great trumpet solo.
This song is BADASS!!!
