  • 💧 This second part of our video on this VW Golf showing the leaking rear vents which are causing water to collect in the boot area.
An awful lot of water can get into these vents but just rain or pouring water down the outside of the car won't reveal this. The water that leaks through these vents splashes up from the road which means it's dirty water... more dirty than normal rain water. It will contain all sorts of contaminants and organic debris which provides food for bacteria and mould to grow on.
Solution: The air vents will be replaced with new ones and while we treat every car that comes with us with a fungicide to decontaminate it, now we have the car in bits we can properly treat these areas.

The videos shown on this channel are taken from inspection reports, filmed for the customer who has paid for a diagnostic inspection, which comes with a video report. We share them here for informational purposes because the hardest part of fixing leaky cars is finding the leak.
After the initial inspection, if the customer agrees to have the work done, we film progress reports for the customer and will sometimes include them here.
    ----------------------------------------
    F E Q U E N T L Y A S K E D Q U E S T I O N S
Q: How much does it cost?
A: We don't know. That's why we do a diagnostic inspection. We cannot answer the question of how much it costs to fix before we know the extent of the problem. Prices for our inspection and hourly rates can be found on our website.
Q: Why don't you show us how to fix it?
A: This isn't a DIY channel, we are sharing videos we take for the customer as part of our inspection process. Furthermore, the vast majority of the fixes are simple, and if you need to ask how to fix them, you probably should let a professional deal with it. See below:
    ⚠️ C A U T I O N ⚠️
⚡ Electricity and water is a dangerous combination. This is especially the case with electric and hybrid cars, but most modern cars have electronic control units in areas which are prone to water ingress. These are easily damaged and can be expensive to replace.
💥 Areas that need to be accessed to fix water leaks may contain airbags. These are explosive and can be quite sensitive. Tampering with them could lead to serious injury.
☣️ Cars that have been damp for a prolonged period often contain mould, mildew and dangerous bacteria. Mould spores can seriously affect the health of people with asthma, the old, very young, and people with compromised immune systems. Mould should always be taken seriously.

Why VW have never recalled this problem is a fucking piss take it's obviously a common fault I had the same issue and VW weren't interested, Managed to fix it myself without taking the bumper off 💪🏻 sealed both vents and rear lights hopefully this has done the job.

It is a problem on every car, not just Volkswagen. When a car gets to about 8-12 years old, the rear vent flaps perish and let in water.
I'm no engineer, but I am sure that given half an hour I could probably come up with a better design. And If I can, I am sure they could too. That they don't is most puzzling, it's almost like they want you to get fed up with sitting in a damp car, and go out and buy a new one.

@@newagainautoreconditioning Well they have shot themselves in the foot because it's put me off ever buying another golf and they put a silicon bag in the water tank that burst after awhile and clogs up your heater matrix and all the pipes another issue I had that was no fault of mine and cost me over £500 to get fixed 🤦🏻‍♂️ definitely put me off buying another

    Absolutely over engineered junk!
Just spend the weekend removing carpets from my mk7 Golf after discovering water pond under spare wheel.
Set of new air vents from dealers £52, tube of CT1 and the job is done without even removing rear bumper...just need to be mindful to clean all the surfaces thoroughly before reinstalling new vents.
Then drain pipe under boot badge which act as a boot opening handle...all linig removed and new pipe installed £10 plus my labour also.
Checked all rear lights also as they're known to be another water ingress point...all good so far.
That's leaves me both rear doors leaking from lover section around the speaker into the foot well...
Simply, avoid this car. Not worth the hassle to be facing all of this.
Buying mine i was convinced that I look after it well and it will never happen to me.
Now I'm preparing to carry on disinfection of the whole mould contamination inside the rear of the car. It simply smells bad and its a health hazard. Not to mention potential re-sale value of the car is basically ruined.

How much would it cost to get this car waterproof?

How did you dry the footwells? If you're seeing water on the carpet the insulaltion undernath will be soaked with litres of water. Plus the foam insulation at the front by the pedals. How do you dry all of that out?

We take the seats out, lift up the carpet, suck out the water while it drip-dries into the floor pan, and then we use industrial dehumidifiers and hot air.

Did you film pulling the carpet/ lining out in the boot? I’ve got the water leak problem but before I take off my bumper to re seal the vents I want to double check but without damaging the lining.

Ahh, on your car, the water actually comes through the rubber flaps on the vent.. On my MK6, the water came in around the edge of the vent (between the metal body and the rubber). I used silicon to around the outside of the vent to solve my cars issue.

Did you remove the bumped to seal around the outside of the vent or did you seal it from the inside i.e Accessed it like in this video? Suffering from the same issue. Thanks mate

Leaking round the edge of the vents is way more common. Bumper off, remove vents, seal up with silicone and refit.
