Etude - Suzuki Book 1 - in performance tempo!

  • See Etude played in the lower half of the bow, between the middle and the balance point, using the upper arm only. This is the easiest part of the bow for beginners. In this video the Etude is played with "beginners technique", i.e. without vibrato and other more advanced techniques, so you can focus on the basics!
    If you dont have strips on your own bow it can be helpful to put some on, or use chalk to divide the bow into four even parts so that you can copy a precise bow distribution:-)
    A video like this can be very helpful, but remember that it can never replace your teacher. Please always follow your teachers advice, as even within the Suzuki program, the teachers playing and instruction can vary slightly from one another and this should by no means confuse you! Always confirm with your teacher as he/she knows how to help you best!

      Oh dear! Then try playing along with the slow practice video - that always helps in the beginning! And remember, you need the first AND the second finger pattern in this piece, the second finger pattern is where the second finger is low, or next to the first finger. Thats the most important learning point in this piece. Otherwise, the bow does the same as in Perpetual Motion, just with more string crossings, but with slow practice, you can learn that too! Wishing you all the best for your practice with greetings from Vienna!

    Why are you using only about the 3rd of the lower bow?

    • @violingardenacademy
      @violingardenacademy  3 года назад +10

      This is because I divide the bow in four parts for learning better bow control. The first sticker closest to the frog is around the balance point, then there is the middle of the bow, and then the 3/4 point. For each part of the bow, we use different arm/hand movements. In the lower part, we use more arm movement, whereas in the upper part we need to engage the lower arm in order to be able to draw the bow straight, or parallel to the bridge. This piece can also be played more around the middle part of the bow, but I prefer to use the lower part, just as in Perpetual Motion, to solidify a full sound with straight bow in the lower part of the bow. I hope this helps, and all the best for your practice! A tutorial is coming soon!

      Try practicing it with the slow video, or with a metronome. It is also important to recognize which part makes you speed up - is it the string crossings, or the scales down ward? When you know, you can focus on listening to a metronome while you play.
