Re your comments about hitting 40k subs Fenton. You are a talented car reviewer and pick out insights that many, perhaps even most pros, do not. A lot of that comes from being an enthusiast and not aiming your channel at casuals or the mass market, but I believe there is room for growth if you wanted to lean into yt even more. One issue is that enthusiasts are niche by nature. So as well as wishing you lots of growth yt success in the future, please don't dumb your channel down! haha! All the best for 2024!
Glad Zygrene talked about pedestrian stuff.. Most ppl here will wanna know how do things that are attainable like a prepped MX5, GR86, Type S etc compare vs these.. The GT4, Ferrari etc might as well be on a different universe, not accessible to almost anyone.
lol dude's got biased takes, all this is subjective but the dudes got gr86 transmission to be rated higher than a ctr. I dont know how much more of a crazy take you can have just because you own a gr86
I agree on the lotus and the attention it gets is sometimes annoying. My Evora gets too much and even getting gas in it brings a 10 minute conversation, usually with someone who knows nothing about cars 😂
Great video and loved hearing both your impressions and views. One about the DC2R: Someone described it as Honda making a car that disguised it's FWD'ness and then all the Type-R's since, from the DC5 onwards, as just making FWD as capable as it could be, (but crucially, still feeling FWD). I think I basically agree with that. The DC2 focussed more on loosening the rear end for balance compared to giving the front end too much grip. Great to hear Jubbal & Cars getting bitten by the Evora bug! The J's Racing S2000 parked next to the GT4RS is telling. The GT4 looks bloated and fat. The S2000 looks like a scalpel honed motorsport weapon...swoon.
I own a DC5 and agree. I think Honda made a mistake going to McPherson struts instead of the double-wishbone of the DC2. The DC2 is also lighter, but I would argue I feel much safer near the limit in the RSX as the chassis looks and feels like it could take an impact better than it's predecessor. As for the GT4, great car, but agreed on the styling...Which is one of the reasons I bought an older Cayman, it looks more "lean" than the 981 and 718 models.
I love the fact that you both drove many of the same cars, so we’re getting different feedback and perspectives about the driving dynamics and other aspects of the same cars. ❤
I do agree about the cynicism, but I think there is some merit to it. For example if you want a truly raw car experience now, you have to have $$$. GT3, Emira, etc. There aren’t any raw cars under like 70k where we used to have tons of options like the S2K, Elise, etc. The ND2 and the GR86 are the best we have and they’re numb. It can be extremely frustrating to see all of the driving focused cars disappearing and getting more numb unless you buy 10-15 year old used cars.
Regarding the 458 sound, I liked it too but I got the slightly “synthesized” feel that some say, but still great. I’d suggest trying an F430 Scuderia, if you haven’t already…it’s not as deep a sound as the 458 but more “raw” almost screamer type sound (to me at least).
Lotus manuals are historically all over the place. You can add android auto to m2 with an mmi box. We'll just send you out in my fbo custom tune og m2 lci (maybe we'll upgrade the turbo at some point to unlock more top end), ohlins road sport, square 18" setup, csg brake pads, autosolutions ssk, rogue engineering trans mounts, ucp, cdv delete, rear suspension links, diff mount and bushings upgrade, m2cs steering/lsd/dtc software, front thrust arm monoballs, front end reinforcement, camber correction hubs, m2csr fronr sway bar, whatever else.
We can make the blackwing happen sometime in the spring Zygrene. I’ll make sure there’s no water bottle and you make sure there’s no track prepped Camaros to compare against. 😜
I'm realising I'm a lot like Jubbal in taste. I had an FR-S (which I supercharged). The Type R I drove is exactly how he described it - I respected it but I didn't find it that interesting overall to drive on street. I'm really thinking ND2 as my next car, my only worry is the steering may not be as good as FR-S but apparently it's better than GR86 steering
I’ve had both nd2 rf and 86, steering not much difference but overall Nd is superior sports car. Make sure you’re comfortable tho because it’s very tight inside
Happy new year guys! I have a GR86 and on center feel is pretty dead. Steering feed back is modest. I have Perrin lockdown bushing clamps en route. I liked the discussion on biases. I am debating with myself if more induction noise will add to my enjoyment or just add noise. I have enjoyable exhaust noises with an axle back already. When I was young i had glorious V8 rumble to enjoy: im not sure if the 4 cylinder induction will really excite. The sharp handling is definitely what I enjoy the most from the GR86 and I wonder if mods (like wider tires and coilovers) will just make it more serious instead of fun as the stock car is. Great debates. Best of luck for your channels!
It will be also will be very curious for me to hear your opinion on c6z06vs 15z28 vs 6th ss1le as an extra canyon toy in the garage, which one would you guys pick ? ;)
this was a nice listen except for the end. wow. i'm not naive for not liking the trends that new cars are experiencing, and that the "alternatives" are ~15+ years old. maybe it's easy to say that when you're already at the point in life wgere you can spend new GR86 money on an S2000....
Fenton, the way you and Kevin were talking about your age I thought u guys were waaay older. Lol. 33. Spring chickens. BTW, curious what you day job is if you don't mind sharing (maybe at a high level)
In states you are missing so lot of interesting european cars, especially the french stuff alpine a110, megane RS, 308GTi and others, in my opinion megane is far more superior to CTR except may be its seats

Indeed! Driving the same cars in the same conditions provides us with insights that wouldn't otherwise be possible.
Refreshing to hear your comments, we are so lucky to have all these cars available for testing. Thanks & stay healthy💯
jubbal is dead on about the cynicism in enthusiasts/youtubers about modern cars
I was nodding my head violently to his comments there. Consider me a new fan. Even the cycling bit was great.

Speaking of sound behind your head. My Dad had a Dali Racing airbox back in the day in the 2000 NSX. Sounded absolutely insane.

Interesting. Hoping to drive more Ferraris and other exotics in 2024. Owners/dealers - hit me up!
I agree with the sound comparison between the two. Went with the Scuderia over 458 in part because of the sound
Awesome chatting Zypapi

Come drive one of our S2K on 1/27! (And/or Jim's E46.)
Don't have to ask me twice!
You guys are welcome to drive the E46 anytime 👍
You're a real one Chris!

@@Zygrene thx. found a more recent one, haven't seen the 911 comparison yet

Fenton wears a pixel watch so I can already guess where he works lol
Lol, I'm actually not a Googler! I am in tech though
Nothing about the GR Corolla
