Good information GC I was never sure on how to setup my LD. I primarily use Penn Conventional's with Alveys (the 45's right now) thrown in here and there when on my Ski The LDs seem to add a little more flexibility with the Strike Drag. Thanks Steve
the only time i used those lever drag reels was at the boat show lol but due to their simple design its so convenient to use especially wen u want to adjust ur drag tension unlike a spinning reel where you have to tweak n twist at it just to get the tension right
Yeah they are very easy to use and its good to be able to push the lever and get the drag you want, spinning reels is a bit of a guessing game to get it right haha
oh definately. but surfcasting reel drags aint so bad: unlike most spin reels where u have to crank up the drag, for surfcasting reels like the shimano aerlex only requires one or two twist to allow it to go from free spool to normal setting
Thats interesting, it's been a good 10 or more years since i've bought a surfcasting rod and reel so I bet they are very different these days as technology changes
oh yes definately plus really good price tags on them as well but recently they changed many of the good models n its hard to find any good ones for a reasonable price like the aerlex 8000.
yo man I have been seeing everywhere that you need to set your reel to 1/3 the line capacity at strike but I don't understand WHY exactly. Care to explain?
@@haydenloader4529 the idea is you set it to 1/3 at strike, 2/3 at max drag so that last 3rd is your safety buffer so you dont get too close to the line breaking
Unfortunately not mate, the weather hasn't been the best and I have been crazy busy with work. I will be out soon though and I am making a change to put more focus into youtube... stay tuned!
Quick question Glen, after I have set the strike drag to 2kg (15lb main) the max drag is to high, but if I reduce it then the strike drag becomes to light. How do you reduce the max drag without reducing the strike drag?
Thanks Glen, just the advice I needed today
Well done Your video was easy to follow. Keep them coming Regards Zeke Mundy
Thankyou. I'm glad you enjoyed the video

Hey Steve, thanks for the feedback and i'm glad you found it useful.
Happy fishing mate
Good job GC good info you are sharing I have a baitcaster level wind and I think I will use this technique
Thanks Darryl, it's always good to do this to learn how much drag you are putting on when fighting a fish

so I have 50lb braid and a 25lb fluoro leader 8.3 lb then ? Where do I find the scale ?
yo man I have been seeing everywhere that you need to set your reel to 1/3 the line capacity at strike but I don't understand WHY exactly. Care to explain?
Its not essential but its just a good guideline for drag settings on different line weights
@@GCJetskiFishing Yeh I think I get that part but what I don't understand is why you set it to 1/3. Would the line snap if you didn't do that?

What kind of reel are you using?

@@sharondowsing how much is the max drag when strike is 2kg?
@@GCJetskiFishing I hit 8kg on scale and it wasn’t slipping, anything more and I’m afraid I will break line or damage rod.
@@sharondowsing do you have the lever backed right off when adjusting?
Pretty smart!
Thanks Mr Enthusiastic
great info
Model of scale would be useful info =}
I'm not sure on the model of the scale... but literally any scale with memory can be used
I think I'm starting to get attracted to you....
Send me some lures mate, this could be the start of a bromance
Any chance you can do a dogs honest review of the 2000 reel? I’m very tempted by one but can’t find much in the way of reviews online
